* Old Dominion Athletic Conference game TODAY’S GAME: Lynchburg College hosts Eastern Mennonite University in the Hornets Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener. HORNETS’ PREVIOUS GAME: Lynchburg College concluded play in the Shellenberger Memorial Tournament with a 2-1 victory over the Presidents of Washington & Jefferson College. LC commanded the game from the beginning as they fired off 34 shots to just seven for W&J and held a 10-5 edge in corner kicks. Donald Hard III put the Hornets on the board at the 19:41 mark as he had pocketed a goal on a breakaway as he went oneon-one with the goalie with a defender draped on his back. Josh Reed was awarded a penalty kick just over 60 minutes into the game. However, the ball bounced off the bottom side of the crossbar and was saved by the goalie. Controversy ensued after Reed was able to tap the ball into the net. A minute long discussion assumed amongst the referees to determine if it was a goal, and the referees ruling proved beneficial for the Hornets to give them a 2-0 lead. Josh Weber found the back of the net for the Presidents with less than five minutes remaining to gain momentum, but LC was able to fight off W&J to secure the 2-1 victory. The goalkeeper tandem of Simen Myrum and Brandon Kern tallied 11 saves for the Presidents. HORNETS’ NEXT GAME: LC hosts Randolph College on Saturday, September 19, in the nightcap of Parents & Family Weekend athletic festitivies at 7 p.m.
