For immediate release - 11/9/2009 - #125 Men’s Soccer Faces Catholic University In First Round of the NCAA Tournament LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men’s soccer team, fresh off an ODAC Championship, will travel to Newport News, VA, to face Catholic University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Hornets are 16-2-2 and recently defeated Roanoke College 3-0 on Shellenberger Field this weekend in the ODAC Championship match. Lynchburg has been on fire and is 12-1-1 in their last 14 games. LC’s defense has helped propel LC back into the national scene as the Hornets ranked 46th in the country in goals against average last week and boast a GAA of just 0.77, having allowed only 16 goals in 20 contests. Lynchburg has recorded nine shutouts and have allowed just one goal in seven of their contests. Catholic University comes into the game with a 16-3-1 record and won the Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday by defeating Scranton 3-0. The Cardinals have won six straight contests with two of their losses coming against nationally ranked Swarthmore College. The victorious team will play the winner between the hosts Christopher Newport University and Cabrini College. The date for the first round game is the 14th at 5 p.m. and the second-round game is the 15th at 6 p.m. ###
