FOCUS Staff and Volunteer Bulletin November 2013 MESSAGE FROM ST DAVID’S HOSPICE CHAIRMAN AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES The Chairman and Trustees are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Trystan Pritchard to the post of Chief Executive Officer at St David’s Hospice. There was considerable interest in the post, and the Trustees who took part in the selection process are very pleased to have made an appointment which they feel sure will be extremely successful for the Hospice. Trystan is currently working for a Local Authority and is local to the North West of Wales. The Chairman of the Board, Gladys Harrison, said, “We believe that Trystan’s career has given him considerable skills and the relevant experience which will make him an excellent leader for St David’s Hospice.” Trystan will be taking over the leadership of the Hospice in April 2014 on the retirement of our present Chief Executive, Alun Davies.

FREE WILL MONTH – NOVEMBER St David’s Hospice teamed up with David Jones Solicitors, Llandudno, during November 2013 to promote the importance of making a will. David Jones Solicitors, an established local firm who specialise in the field of Wills, Probate, Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax and Estate Planning, agreed to provide a simple Will free of charge for people over 55 years of age. Many of you signed up for the scheme and took advantage of the opportunity to ensure that your loved ones are looked after. Those taking up the offer were under no obligation to leave a gift to St David’s Hospice, but it’s hoped that many saw this as an opportunity to help fund the care provided at St David’s Hospice. The scheme will be run again next year to the wider public, with the hope that there will be many who need to express their wishes in the form of a Will. In the meantime, if you would like more information on how YOUR future gift could help St David’s Hospice, contact Andrew Humphreys on 01492 879058 or e-mail finance@stdavidshospice.org.uk

ON THE WARD At St David’s Hospice we make sure that Christmas is a special occasion for all of our patients, whether they visit Day Care or our Inpatient Unit and we are only able to do this because of YOUR support. With the festive season fast approaching we need donations of Christmas decorations. The decorations should be new or in good condition and the colour scheme is red, green and gold. If you can help please drop your donations off with Kathryn Morgan-Jones, Fundraising Department, St David’s Hospice, Abbey Road, Llandudno, LL30 2EN.

SHOPS Distribution Centre Revamp The Distribution Centre is open to accept all shop donations and Heather and her team have the huge task of organising the stock to replenish all nine Hospice shops. With space slowly being taken up with donations, the decision was made to rearrange the layout to make more space. This work was carried out by Distribution Centre Assistant, Richie Forrester and Glenn Magill, Hospice Maintenance. They have done an absolutely amazing job and with a new layout and new shelving they have freed up more space so that they can deal with the demand for stock. New Furniture Shop – Queens Road, Craig y Don Our new Furniture shop opened to the public on Thursday, 21st November. Since we have been accepting donations of small pieces of furniture, the time has now come to open a shop just for the furniture and household items as this has freed up much needed space at the Distribution Centre. The furniture shop will run in tandem to the very popular Craig y Don Hospice shop and we very much hope it will receive the same amount of support. Volunteers needed! All our shops rely on the wonderful volunteers to keep them running, but at the moment we are very low on help. Please spread the word. Do you know someone with a couple of hours spare that they could give to the Hospice? No retail experience is needed and we provide all the necessary training and support that is required to do this role. For further information please contact Janet Magill Hospice Administrator/Volunteer Co-ordinator on 01492 879058.
