Entry Requirements You will need at least GCSE Additional Science or Core Science grade D, or BTEC Science Distinction. What will I study? GCSE Additional Science offers students a broad, coherent course of study that adds to their knowledge and understanding of the living, material and physical worlds. You will study elements of the three core Sciences of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. What can I do after this course? If you achieve a minimum of a B grade you will be able to progress on to an A Level Science course.

Entry Requirements You will need at least GCSE English Language and Maths grade C or 4 and Double Science grade C, or BTEC Diploma in Applied Science Merit. What will I study? This course is aimed towards students that enjoy Science but want to continue learning in more of an applied way. You will develop skills in independent learning, practical ability, research and active group work. On this course you will study two core units taken over one year - one unit is examined but the other is based on coursework. These are Principles and Applications of Science and Practical Scientific procedures and Techniques. These give a basic understanding of scientific principles and how to work safely in laboratories and competently use laboratory equipment. The certificate is equivalent to 0.5 of an A Level. What can I do after this course? This qualification has the same UCAS points as 0.5 A Level, and combined with other BTECs or A Levels provides a sound footing for progression to employment, an apprenticeship or Higher Education. Some University degrees you could apply to with BTEC Science include nursing, forensic science and zoology.

Entry Requirements You will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths and Double Science, or a Merit in a BTEC Diploma in Applied Science. Other equivalent qualifications will be considered. Good literacy skills are beneficial. What will I study? On this course you will study a balanced programme of scientific disciplines drawn from the biological, physical and chemical sciences. In addition to this you will also have the chance to investigate how science is used in medicine and health care, forensics and in industry. The course content reflects how science is used in the science sector and adopts a hands-on vocational approach to scientific training. You will be required to take part in all aspects of practical work, industrial visits and fieldwork (where required). What can I do after this course? This course can provide a pathway to higher education and you could continue your study to degree level in vocational scientific disciplines. A BTEC in Science is a qualification valued by industry and you may be able to enter a laboratory based career upon completion of your BTEC.

On this course you will study units for each of the three science areas: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The course consists of a mix of scientific theory, practical work and how science relates to everyday life. What can I do after this course? This course can provide a pathway to Level 3 courses within the College. To start an A-level Science course you would need BB in Core and Additional Science. Chemistry and Physics also require a B in Maths.
