PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE TIM JONES, SCWA PRESIDENT As I write this President’s Message, we have just concluded the SCWA Cleveland Car Wash Tour—and what an experience it was!
The Tour was a tremendous success and once again reminded me just how special it is to be part of the SCWA family. One attendee summed it up perfectly when he told me, “This one was the best of the best!” I couldn’t agree more. SCWA truly Connects the Car Wash World. Be sure to check out the photos from the Cleveland Tour in this edition of the ADVANTAGE. We are incredibly grateful to the car wash owners who opened their doors and welcomed us into their operations. We also want to extend a special thank-you to all of the outstanding companies that sponsored the Tour and our unforgettable evening at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Please take a moment to see and support the companies whose names appear in this edition. What I love most about SCWA events is that they bring out the very best in our industry. In Cleveland, I saw people enjoying time together, sharing ideas, building friendships, learning from one another and simply having a great time being part of this incredible industry. I saw operators excited to take new ideas back to their businesses. I saw people asking questions, sharing experiences and helping each other succeed. At the end of the day, people were simply happy to be together—and to learn together. That is what makes our industry and SCWA so unique. As I thought about the Cleveland experience, I began to wonder if there was something even deeper behind what makes SCWA so special. Events like Cleveland remind me of the importance of giving back. We all know people who approach relationships with a “what can you do for me?” attitude. But what I consistently see throughout the car wash industry—and especially at SCWA events—is something very different: “What can I do for you?” That attitude is at the heart of the most successful car wash operators and business owners I know. It reminds me of the message from the classic book The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann: when we focus on creating value for others, helping others and building meaningful relationships, we ultimately create greater value for ourselves as well. Some call it enlightened self-interest.
can find better solutions. This commitment to one another is what makes SCWA so special— and why it is such an honor to be part of this organization. When I first became involved with SCWA many years ago, someone told me, “SCWA is like a big family.” Then came the important advice: “But, just like in any family, you have to engage. You have to be a part of it.” At the time, I was probably a little reluctant. Like many people, I tended to keep things close to the vest. But the more involved I became, the more I understood how right that advice was. Being part of the SCWA family is about learning and sharing. It is about showing up. Getting involved. Meeting people. Building relationships. Sharing what has worked— and what hasn’t. Helping someone else avoid a mistake you may have already made. And perhaps most importantly, it is about recognizing that we are all better when we work together. Speaking of SCWA events, the SCWA Wade Welch Memorial Golf Classic is October 1! This is always one of our most popular events, and we expect to once again reach our maximum number of players. So don’t wait—register today and join us in San Antonio at the outstanding J.W. Marriott TPC Golf Course. It will be a great day of golf, friendship and fun on a course that has hosted professional golf and the annual Valero Texas Open. And, of course, the highlight of the SCWA year is just around the corner. Mark your calendars now for the SCWA Convention & EXPO, February 24–26, 2027, at the Fort Worth Convention Center. The 2027 EXPO floor will be the largest ever for SCWA, bringing together the leading companies serving the car wash, lube and detail industries. Attendee registration will be opening soon, so watch for the announcement. And I can promise you that the announcement of our keynote speaker will be one you won’t want to miss. More details will be coming in the next few weeks.
I believe that philosophy is at the very heart of SCWA. Networking. Partnership. Sharing. Helping. Learning.
Thank you for being an important part of the SCWA family. I encourage each of you to get involved, engage with your fellow members, share your experiences and take advantage of everything the incredible SCWA community has to offer.
We come together because we know that none of us has all the answers. We face many of the same challenges, and by sharing our experiences and working together, we
And together, we truly Connect the Car Wash World.
Because SCWA is more than an association - SCWA is a community. SCWA is a partnership. SCWA is a family.

APPLYING OPERATIONAL AND CUSTOMER DATA AT CAR WASHES TECHNOLOGY Like any business, car washes rely on data in today’s digital-
everything world. With technology quickly advancing and competition creating an ever-present challenge, getting accurate operational information is crucial for managing daily operations and achieving your business goals. Today, car wash operators have more information than ever at their fingertips. Everything from customer data such as visit frequency, package preferences and demographics to site- and industryrelated sales figures and key operational metrics for water, chemicals and throughput all paint a relevant picture of business performance. But reading, sorting and compiling those metrics is just the first step. For car wash businesses, the key question then becomes: what to do with all of it?
they’re relying on their local car wash. This underscores the importance of modernizing each site for optimal performance, which, in turn, provides ample customer data. While the basic principle behind many of those older, manual data-tracking methods still exists, the interface today is much different – and far more efficient. For example, punch cards still work great for most car washes. But customers don’t need the physical cards anymore. They can easily track their washes and incentives online or through an app. The business instantly receives all that data, which can then be filtered and presented in a convenient dashboard alongside other relevant information to monitor promotional performance.
This is where finding the ideal way to gather, funnel and apply all relevant data presents a major opportunity to turn a car wash that just operates into a successful, profit-soaring machine.
One big difference between car washes in the pre-digital era and those of today, however, is that the general public has accepted car washing as the necessity it is. Old Ideas Done in a New Way In the past, collecting important customer and operational metrics was a time-consuming, manual task. Operations had to keep track of things like coupon books, printed tickets and paper ledgers, which required multiple people to operate and promote the wash. But all that physical paperwork, while necessary, was hard to compile and frustrating to analyze. When you added the costs of time, labor and printing to the mix, it became an inefficient, expensive analog system. At the time, it was just the way it was done. But now there are new, better methods that do the heavy lifting for you. One big difference between car washes in the pre-digital era and those of today, however, is that the general public has accepted car washing as the necessity it is. Amid growing environmental concerns and the personal time and resource commitments involved, fewer people are manually washing their cars themselves. Instead,
Clean, easy-to-understand dashboards bring the entire car wash operation together in one platform. Other modern on-site tech, like license plate recognition technology and digital subscriptions and memberships via a website or custom app, allow operators to track all vital customer metrics with just a few clicks. This can (and should) start up front with modern payment kiosks and feed into a digital platform that serves as a central hub for all your customer information, equipment maintenance and product utilization. This will help you make informed decisions about critical business strategies such as promotions, marketing and resource statuses. Must-Have Systems for Operational Car Wash Data Marketing your car wash revolves around data and opportunity. When you tie together relevant data with creating the right customer experience, it can lead to predictive ADVANTAGE 7

outcomes for both your customers and your equipment. Implementing this kind of data utilization strategy involves optimizing the car wash as a connected site, mapping operator pain points directly to solutions. But this must be dynamically integrated. The ideal state should be to bring all data points from locations, payment terminals, wash equipment and apps to a central platform. A digital system can then be used to compile all your relevant customer information, chemistry usage, payment details, and site- and industry-related analytics. This will help you make strategic, informed decisions about resources, promotions and labor, enabling you to truly monitor and optimize pricing, inventory and marketing performance.

Splash Car Wash 130 S Cleveland Massillon Rd Fairlawn Splash Car Wash is a family-owned and operated business proudly serving Northeast Ohio, with the third generation actively involved in leading and growing the company today. What began as a hometown vision has expanded into a three-location operation known for quality service, innovation, and community commitment. Splash Car Wash was established in 2015 in Fairlawn, Ohio, by respected Northeast Ohio entrepreneur John Mallo Sr. Throughout his successful career, John built and operated numerous businesses across the United States, but one of his greatest passions was developing Splash Car Wash alongside his son and current owner, Joe Mallo, in the community they proudly call home. Under Joe Mallo’s leadership, Splash experienced significant growth with the expansion of its flagship Fairlawn campus in 2021-2022. The addition of a second wash tunnel, a dedicated express interior cleaning building, and an expanded detailing operation positioned Splash as one of the premier car wash facilities in the region. During this growth phase, Joe’s daughter, Danielle Mallo, joined the leadership team, continuing the family tradition and helping guide the next generation of the business.
Today, Splash Car Wash continues to evolve by finding innovative ways to better serve its customers and local communities. As Danielle expands her role within the company, Joe continues pursuing additional locations and opportunities while carrying forward the vision and values established by his father. United Auto Wash 884 E Steels Corners Rd Stow United Auto Wash’s Steels Corners location is a high-volume, technologydriven touchless wash built to challenge what operators expect from an unattended in-bay automatic site. Powered by Dencar technology, the Steels Corners wash was designed to deliver tunnel-like throughput without tunnel-like labor. The site combines four long, oversized touchless bays with an advanced kiosk, membership, payment, and fraud-mitigation platform that allows customers to move quickly, redeem memberships easily, and access multiple services across the property. The result is a wash that operates with remarkably low labor requirements while still supporting high customer volume, strong membership growth, and a neighborhood-friendly experience. About the Facility:
• Four 75-foot touchless wash bays • Tall-bay design accommodating vehicles up to 8 feet, 6 inches high
• Ability to wash vehicles up to 23 feet long • Easy access for work trucks, quad-cab duallys, and other oversized vehicle
• Approximately 25 labor hours per week dedicated to the
site, with employees focused on maintenance rather than monitoringnwash activity
• Approximately 43 gallons of water used per wash
About the Technology:
• Fully unattended wash throughput: up to 100 cars washed per hour
• Dencar touchscreen kiosks moves “customer” to “member” in a 10-second sign-up
• 24/7 customer access through Dencar’s Carwash Communicator
• Multiple member wash redemption options: RFID, passcode, or app scan
• Site-level memberships that activate additional services beyond the wash
• VIA Guard fraud mitigation technology that protects memberships and converts misuse into sales opportunities
• Family membership model, with 38% of members having more than one vehicle on plan
What makes Steels Corners especially noteworthy is not simply that it is unattended. It is that the site is unattended by design. The wash was built around the idea that technology can manage the customer journey, protect revenue, simplify membership, and maintain throughput without requiring an employee to stand watch over the process. Customers can join quickly, redeem easily, and move through the site without getting held up in line. Members can also use their plan across site-level services, turning the wash into more than a single transaction point. United Auto Wash calls itself a friendly neighborhood car wash. At Steels Corners, that idea is supported by a very modern operating model: convenient access, broad vehicle compatibility, low labor dependency, strong membership adoption, and a technology platform created by car wash owners who understand what operators need from the site level up. Living near
water increases longevity-but not just any water. Recent finding: Urban life near inland lakes and rivers actually reduces life expectancy slightly. To get the benefits of living near water - adding an average of a year or more to your life span - you need to live within about 30 miles of an ocean or gulf. Coastal residents also benefit from milder temperatures, better air quality, more recreational opportunities, better transportation and less likelihood of drought.
Best vegetable for healthier life
- spinach. The antioxidant-packed leafy green is rich in inflammationreducing substances such as vitamin C, lutein and zeaxanthin. Spinach also contains nitrates that help keep blood pressure in check... cancer-fighting compounds including beta-carotene and flavonols... fiber to support gut health...and folate, which is good for the brain.
A credit freeze is not enough to stop identity theft. A freeze
pre-vents new credit accounts from being opened in your name by limiting access to your credit report at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. But a freeze does not protect existing accounts - someone with access to an existing credit card or bank account can make changes. Also not blocked: A phony tax return using your Social Security number (SSN)... employment inquiries using your SSN number...government benefits such as unemployment. Medical treatments also do not require a credit check, so a fraudster in possession of your personal data could pose as you to get treatments. For greater protection against identity theft: Consider signing up for an identity-protection plan that monitors public records, watches financial transactions, provides fraud resolution and includes insurance in case ID theft does occur.
Ancient Americans liked to gamble. Archaeologists have
found dice made from bone used by prehistoric North Americans about 12,000 years ago. The pieces, which are flat with distinct “heads” and “tails,” were thrown several at a time in games of chance.

rypto ATMs are hotbeds for fraud. In 2024, the FBI logged 11,000 complaints involving the machines, amounting to $246.7 million-and that is expected to be higher for 2025. Victims seldom get their money back. The kiosks, which resemble traditional ATMs, attract scammers because it is easy to steal and misdirect funds beyond the eyes of law enforcement. Self-defense: Be skeptical of requests to pay anyone by using a crypto machine...and never deposit money into anyone else’s cryptocurrency account.

Stickers on gas station tap-to-pay terminals are most likely
legitimate replacements for worn or hard-to-see decals. Although many warnings have been posted online about scammers stealing data from card readers, there have not yet been any confirmed reports of phony stickers or decals being placed on tap-to-pay terminals for criminal purposes. If you are unsure whether a tap-to-pay sticker is legitimate: Ask at the gas station... pay directly at the cash register...or use an alternative payment method, such as a payment app.

ire seasons are starting to overlap. Environmental data covering a 50-year period show that as wildfires become more common and wildfire seasons become more prolonged, more countries are experiencing emergencies at the same time. This could impede countries from sharing resources with one another, weakening our ability to fight wildfires.

heaper, safer way to turn seawater into drinking water. Conventional desalination does not remove naturallyoccurring boron from seawater, which is at toxic levels for humans. A new chemical-free method that uses carbon cloth electrodes to remove boron could save billions of dollars.
Watch out for courier scams. Victims are told that a loved
one is in legal or medical trouble and needs immediate cash...or that they themselves are at risk for criminal charges unless they can prove they are identity-fraud victims by liquidating their accounts into gold or cash and putting those assets into a “government-owned” account. A “courier” shows up to carry the money or gold to the distressed loved one or a government bank. Americans have lost more than $186 million to courier scams.
