DIVING DESTINATIONS

PALAU

Micronesia has always been hailed as one of the premier dive destinations of the world. From large playful manta rays to tiny cleaner shrimp, the underwater world truly blossoms and comes alive in Palau. Big Blue Explorer will show you the time of your life where each day brings new dive sites to explore. Big Blue offers four to five dives per day each starting with a short dive briefing and equipment check before heading out into the sea for underwater exploration. Diving in Palau is perfect most of the year round. It has a pleasantly warm climate with an annual temperature of 82째 F (27C). Rainfall can occur throughout the year with an annual average of 150 inches. Typhoons are rare as Palau is located outside the typhoon zone. However, we normally do not operate August/September as Palau can be subject to strong winds at this time of year. Travel Information Visitors' Visas are issued upon arrival for 30 days Visitors must carry a valid Passport and Onward Ticket Currency is in US Dollars Departure tax of US$20 must be paid at airport Electricity is 220 and 110 volts on Big Blue Gratuities are appreciated Full dive equipment rental available on board How to get there Scuba World gives special airfare rates for guests going to Palau from Manila. Most of the visitors arrive from Continental Airlines via Guam. Please advise ahead of time for special assistance.

TUBBATAHA REEFS Diving In Philippines

In the center of Sulu Sea lies the Tubbataha Reef National Park. Declared a World Heritage site by the World Conservation Union in 1993, the park is composed of 2 coral atolls separated by an 8 km (5mile) wide channel. These picturesque tropical atolls, known as North and South Tubbataha, host an amazing variety of reefs, turtles and large pelagics. Manta and eagle rays, white, gray and black tip reef sharks, nurse sharks, shovelnose sharks, leopard and hammerhead sharks are common. Schools of jacks and snappers congregate on the wall, while sleek barracudas patrol. The terrain ranges from gentle slopes to sheer walls in excess of 914 meters (3000ft). The spectacular explosion of life and color make this an experience never to be forgotten. Visit the magnificent Tubbataha Reefs between the months of March and June. How to Get There Guests going to Tubbataha have to take domestic flights out of Manila to Puerto Princesa and back. Philippine Airlines and Air Philippines fly this route.

APO REEF Diving In Philippines

This 155, 827 hectare reef is located 20 miles (32km) west of Occidental Mindoro and is divided by a narrow channel into 2 lagoon systems (north and south). This channel runs from east to west and its depth varies from 5.9 ft (1.8m) to 90 ft. (27m). A brilliant white sand bottom, numerous coral formations and patches of branching coral enthrall divers who explore this reef. The northern edge of the lagoon has magnificent drop-offs, with gorgonians and sea fans dominating an underwater landscape literally awash with impressive coral formations. Some 385 species of fish thrive here, including sharks, stingrays, eagle rays, manta rays, tuna and schools of jacks and snappers as well as swarms of vividly hued reef fish. Enjoy the sight of countless turtles gracefully swim by. There are reportedly around 400 to 500 coral species in these very waters and three ships have also been known to have found their final resting place amongst the marine inhabitants of this reef. Expedition Fleet Liveaboards sail here on 5-day trips throughout the year. Apo Reef is undoubtedly one of the many breathtaking adventures not to be missed.

VISAYAS

Explore endless possibilities in the Visayas. It's a popular destination for travelers as it comprises a tightly packed group of islands endowed with breathtaking scenery capturing the hearts of nature lovers and adventurers alike. Expedition fleet offers you a chance to sail to the best diving destinations in the Visayas. Cebu, known as the Queen City of the South, is the oldest city in the island republic and the hub of air and sea travel in the region. There are marine sanctuaries, walls and drop offs around Mactan Island that are great for snorkeling and diving. Bohol, known for the Tarsier monkeys and Chocolate Hills, boasts of great diving as well. Cabilao Island has a multitude of interesting marine life for macro photography, plus schools of barracuda, moorish idols and jacks which frequent the area. Divers usually see big pelagic, beautiful soft corals of all different colors and flashlight fish in the crevices. But reserve all your energy for the eel gardens and the shoal of Hammerhead sharks usually seen when the current is very strong. Balicasag Island, a world class dive destination, offers coral forests, walls and submarine cliffs indented with caves and overhangs. A thriving fish community is found around the cliff area. Here, jacks, mackerel and barracudas are seen in abundance. In the caves, you can find large groupers, napoleon wrasses and snappers. Further north are two amazing dive destinations not to be missed. Just 20 minutes away from Ticao island is the Ticao Manta Bowl, a dive spot where manta rays, tiger sharks, hammerheads, even barracudas and pelagic fish, can be found. An hour Ticao is Donsol in Sorsogon province, famous for the gentle butanding or whale shark. Gentle and friendly as they are, just snorkeling along side these giants is an astounding experience of a lifetime. Sightings of these whale sharks depend on the tide, the current, the moon, the wind and the presence of plankton. Travel Information Visitor Visas are issued upon arrival for 21 days Visitors must carry a valid passport and onward ticket Currency is in Philippine Pesos Gratuities are appreciated How to Get There Depending on the desired itinerary, guests take domestic flights out of Manila to Cebu and embark on the liveaboard there.
