Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Opening Ceremony 14 Oct 2014 Opening of SCPW 2014 by Guest-of-Honour, Ms Grace Fu, Minister , Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs

In her opening address, Minister outlined three areas that the construction sector should focus on to improve productivity: • Make prefabrication more prevalent; • Raise the skills level of workers; and • Improve integration along the construction value chain. She also urged the industry to move towards Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA) and adopt game changing technologies which will enable a quantum leap in productivity improvement. BCA hosted VIP tours for more than 150 industry leaders and partners to showcase key highlights of the BuildTech Asia exhibition including the BCA Pavilion

VIPs include: • Private sector developers, builders & consultants, etc. • Many public sector agencies also joined the VIP tours, e.g. MND, MOF, MTI, MOT, MEWR, MFA, NPTD, HDB, URA, LTA, PA, JTC, E2i, NHB, NEA, NUS, etc.

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Build Smart Conference 14 – 15 Oct 2014 BCA organised the 4th edition of Build Smart Conference where speakers shared: • the value proposition of BIM and how BIM can be strategically adopted to improve project delivery • insights on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and productive construction technologies such as PPVC & CLT.

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Government BIM Symposium 2014 13 Oct 2014 BCA organised the 2nd Government BIM Symposium Two workshops provided practical training on the development of national BIM Roadmap, ecosystem & value of BIM mandates. Shared insights on role of owners in BIM adoption, how government policies impact and influence the use of BIM and its effectiveness in the construction industry.

Government delegates from Hong Kong, Japan, India and New Zealand updated on their BIM efforts in their respective countries.

Countries Rep: 110 participants Delegates from 13 countries E.g. UK, USA, France, China, Japan, India, Malaysia, etc.


Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Workshop on Game Changing Construction Technologies and Site Visit to Yishun Community Hospital 13 Oct 2014 and 16 Oct 2014 • The inaugural Workshop on Game Changing Construction Technologies attracted 130 participants

• BCA organised 2 sessions of group site visits to Yishun Community Hospital which adopts precast and structural steel hybrid construction

• International experts and prominent local industry professionals shared and engaged participants on topics related to Prefabricated Pre-finished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and Prefabricated Bathroom Unit (PBU)

• More than 30 participants from the public and private sector joined the visit


Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) Workshop 15 Oct 2014 BCA organised a half day workshop for about 34 Singapore Polytechnic students and lecturers. The workshop includes: (i)

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Skilled Builders Competition 14 - 15 Oct 2014 Together with SCAL & Sphere Exhibits, BCA organised the Skilled Builders Competition for the 4th year It aims to foster better productivity through technology adoption, promote proper work procedures and highlight the importance of using the right skills to achieve productivity improvements

12 teams with a total of 68 skilled workers participated in this year’s Competition

The competition focused on the Prefabricated Bathroom Unit (PBU) where competitors demonstrated their ability in fitting out a PBU The 1.5 days event was to test the multiple trade skills and co-ordination of the team, to showcase the productivity benefits of PBUs


Productivity Show & Tell Workshop 2014, 15 Oct 2014 Inaugural Productivity ‘Show & Tell’ Workshop During the half-day workshop, representatives from selected PBU trades specialists were invited to share on the benefits of PBUs and how their products can help to achieve productivity improvement.

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 BIM Competition 10 Oct 2014 BIM competition organised for the 4th consecutive year, provided unique learning experience for IHL students to build up BIM skills in a collaborative environment similar to real construction world under the guidance of industry practitioners. Teams were required to produce 3D models and documentation over 4 days. This year, the competition saw a record number of 20 participating teams, formed by 147 students. 20 teams from 6 IHLs: NTU . NUS . BCAA . Ngee Ann Polytechnic . Singapore Polytechnic & Temasek Polytechnic

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Productivity Challenge Aug - Oct 2014 BCA organised the inaugural Productivity Challenge opened to IHL students. It was launched in Aug 2014 & held over a 1.5 months period.

Total of 15 teams, formed by 64 students from NUS, NTU & BCAA took part in the Challenge. • Students were given training in the Code of Practice on Buildability and other relevant topics • Students competed in their planning, choice of buildable systems, labour efficient construction methods and meeting the minimum buildable design and constructability scores

Singapore Construction Productivity Week 2014 Productivity Race 16 Oct 2014 About 120 tertiary students joined the Productivity Race on 16 Oct 2014. The aim of the Productivity Race is to engage tertiary students and raise their awareness on advanced productive construction technologies and systems as well as BCA’s productivity initiatives

Highlights of the Productivity Race include:

Guest-of-Honour Dr Maliki assembling flexible pipes with students from the Singapore Polytechnic at the first pit-stop of the race

Students visited Crowne Plaza Hotel to see the hotel extension construction site which will be using Lego - like PPVC system

Students learnt the concept of prefabricated bathroom units through the race activity
