a study of functionality & ergonomics
DESIGNED BY: SCOTT SHUMAKER INDUSTRIAL DESIGN SPRING LAB EXPLORATION OF THE HAND
The tool functions as an ice cream scoop. The form is derived from the profile of the solid flow project with an alternating thickness from front to back. It focuses on ergonomics with molded cutouts for the dimensions of the hand. The handle of the tool fits comfortably in the palm while
allowing for a generous scoop size. A characterizing feature of the tool is its off-center scoop. The scoop features a sweeping arc that creates a flowing feeling. This allows for maximum leverage while scooping because of the ability to pull towards the body with the wrist at a natural angle.
