Scotland meets Bohemia in this eclectic programme exploring musical connections across generations. Sally Beamish was inspired by Gesualdo’s intensely lyrical motet to write a Concerto Grosso for the Scottish Ensemble. Dvořák’s pupil Suk arranged the older composer’s song cycle for strings, and a crop of Scotland’s finest contemporary composers have written a composite set of variations on the traditional Scots tune ‘Tullochgorum’. The evening culminates in Suk’s glorious Serenade for Strings, a sunny string classic, written on summer holiday at Dvořák’s instruction. Come along and see if you can discover even more links between the pieces! This concert is the final events in the Scottish Ensemble 2014 Aberdeen Residency which runs 21-24 April. During this time we’ll be out and about across the city appearing in a wide range of performance and participatory events built around the community.
