It is a tragic story repeated over & over again in Florida. In August 2011 Doug McGill had just started dating Janine Becker. They went for a ride and while at a Red Light in Bonita Springs, Fl. they where struck from behind by a reckless Cager Alexander Brown. Doug was severely injured and Janine was killed. Janine Becker was a responsible mother who owned her own cleaning service and had four children — three sons and a daughter. Here is what happened::: Brown arrived at a traffic light where the motorcycle was stopped, as the light turned from red to green, rather than coming to a complete stop, reports say Brown accelerated and rear-ended the couple. Both McGill and Becker were thrown from the motorcycle. The Final OUTCOME you ask? Stephen Alexander Brown, 40 who rear ended the couple was cited for careless driving & failure to properly maintain his tires and brakes. Lee County Judge H. Andrew Swett in October 2011 imposed a $1,000 fine for careless driving, a $500 fine for operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment, a six-month license suspension and ordered Brown to take 12 hours of driver’s education. Cagers Killing Bikers and gettin away with it is a vicious circle with no end in site. If they are not drunk, they get a slap on the wrist and a fine.Passage of the Stiffer Penalties bill has been fought for the last 9 years. How many lives have been taken in that time? ALOT and for no reason other then a Cagers not paying attention. The bill is getting more attention in 2012 because of the addition of bycyclists and pedestrians. BUT will it make it this time??? Lets hope so!!! Here is the bottom line concerning Doug McGill Seriously Injured & Janine Becker, Murdered do to Alexander Browns negligence. Doug suffered injuries from which he may never fully recover. And Janines family was left paying for their mothers funeral while the driver was forced to pay nothing toward to the victims for his negligence.THIS HAS TO STOP, HOPEFULLY STATE LEGISLATORS WILL PASS, Stiffer Penalties & Ban Texting & Cell Phone Use NOW. “DonV”

This months tech-tip is very simple and inexpensive, Exhaust stud protection. If you are one of those folks that have been caught in the rain from time to time, you will notice that your exhaust studs at the cylinder head have become really rusted. Especially on the front cylinder, because those studs face foward without much protection. The rear ones are some what gaurded, but still can rust as well, when the engine is hot and the cold rain water hits them it causes them to rust where the exposed threads are. This will cause the exhaust flange-nut to be pretty much impossible to get loose for service or an exhaust change. The nut will become seized on the stud, and if you force it to much it will break the exhaust stud off in the head..... So if you are going to perform this yourself use caution. If the nut can not be removed with a reasonable amount of torque, STOP. Get professional help. There are some tricks to remove a seized exhaust flange nut. So here is the tip, replace your standard exhaust flange nuts with chrome acorn nuts. 5/16 x 24 thread pitch. The end is closed and it will protect the exposed threads on the stud from the elements, plus they look cool. NOTE... its very important that you use some anti seize compound on the exhaust studs before installing the acorn nut, and a 5/16 toothed washer. This little trick will save you alot of heart ache in the future. If you have questions, please feel free to call... Thanks, Happy Motoring....

MOTORSICKLE NEWS 1st off as we all know the 9th of March is the start of Bike Week here in Florida. The Scootergoods Staff wants you to all go and have fun. Rmember there will be speed traps all over and also Cops with decibal meters checkin’ your pipes. So caution is the word. But there will also be plenty to do off your scoots, both Downtown and out in Ormond Beach. Have Fun-Ride Hard - Ride Safe “The SGM Staff” Feb 11, 2012 A TAMPA Florida dad was holding his child in front of him during the A ride, @ 20 to 30 mph. Well after authorities spotted him taking his 3-year-old son for a spin on his motorcycle. They pulled him over and charged him with felony child neglect. But here is the POOP! While you can’t legally drive your toddler around town in your minivan without proper safety restraints, there’s nothing under current Florida law that says you can’t take your kid out for a ride on your Scoot -- provided the child is properly outfitted. So I would say this case will be thrown outta court. ROLLING THUNDER 25: Monday May 28th 2012 To commemorate the 25th anniversary, of this legendary event, 4 custom motorcycles will be built by 4 well known custom bike builders. The scoots will be shown to the public on May 26th, Brigitte Bourget will build the U.S. Marine Corps Bike Dar Holdsworth the U.S. Navy Bike, Kiwi Mike the U.S. Coast Guard Bke. And BILLY LANE will build the U.S. Air Force Bike while still incarcerated in Avon Park Workcamp here in Florida. After the unveilings the bikes will travel around the country with the “Wall that Heals. Donald Trump Sr. and Jr. visited Orange County Choppers where they talked to Paul Sr. about his bitter dispute with son, Paul Jr. After Paul Sr. provided a long list of grievances including how Jr. stole the bike shop’s manager, who knew -- and then divulged -- every inside detail about OCC Trump Sr. advised Tuetel Sr. “Don’t leave him anything. Don’t leave him ten cents.” Also Adding “There’s nothing better than family when it works in business and there’s nothing worse when it doesn’t.”

ABATE Florida converged on Tallahassee last month demanding stiffer penalties for careless dicks who kill bikers and get a slap on the wrist, with negligible fines and no loss of license of financial restitution for the victims. In 2011 56 fellow bikers where murdered do to Cagers negligence. In a show of respect, protest and solidarity each name was read aloud & a bell chime was sounded for each victim. Most all of us are in agreement, some of the biggest problems we face when it comes to Cagers is DISTRACTION, due to CELL PHONES & TEXT MESSAGING, along with the usual Cager claim, I DID NOT SEE THE BIKER!! WE need Stiffer Penalties, BUT there should also be a law passed to ban cell phone use and texting. The State if Florida is way behind the rest of the country in enacting this form of Legislation and the lawmakers need to get their head outta their asses and do the right thing. How many more of us need to die before they see some type of deterrent MUST BE PUT IN PLACE. “DonV”

Skateboard Blaster In 2002, I picked up my Lowrider and decided to treat it with a little more care than I did with my 82 Sportster that I have been riding for the last 20 years and got something special for the new bike. After seeing several ads for the Air Force Blaster that was basically a biker’s hairdryer on steroids for your bike. After getting the blaster the thing worked fine and dried my bike off in record time without a rag. The only thing I had a problem with was that the blaster kept flipping over and it was a pain in the ass moving it around. (The solution) I always was the kind of guy that liked to make things simple. So one day I noticed my kid riding his skateboard and then I figured out what to do. I grabbed one of his old boards and bolted the blaster on it, the perfect fix. It goes where I go and I don’t have to wrestle it to do it. Well since then the company for the Air Force blaster came out with some wheels for it that you can buy. But it still don’t work better than mine. So if you are stuck with one of their Air Force Blasters with no wheels find an old skateboard and bolt it on. I call it the Skateboard blaster. You know it works and it didn’t cost you a fortune. Crazy tip of the month. NYC Irish

Check out this Crazy Scoot,it was built in China where the guy rides it everyday. Looks like he had to forage through alotta junk piles to get all the parts for this thing. It has an Auto Engine, the battery and fuel tank are mounted on the rear fender and seat is a chair. Apparently this guy wanted to ride real bad. Gutta hand it to him for ingenuity though. “Chapdawg”

Just some friendly advice from 1 Biker to another. Don’t let a speedtrap ruin your day. I visited a site called and found these high scooter traffic spots where the lawdogs hangout. Lecanto Rte. 486 The speed is a low 45 MPH. As you go over the hill heading west right past the Methodist church County Sheriffs and State troopers await you. Real bad in early AM.This road is a brand new four lane highway. Floral City E. Gobbler Dr. 35 mile per hour very curvey road , radar anytime ,mornings especially . traps coming out of curves into straightaways and through wooded section US 19 from Crystal River when you come into Homosassa Citrus Cty Sheriffs routinely set up speed traps on the right, just after the first 45mph speed limit sign. A radar car sits in one of the stores on the left and radios two or three pursuit cars that wait a quarter of a mile further down the road. Hudson Hwy 19 South as you come around the curve just south of Aripeka Road. They sit in Grace Memorial Gardens and they also have a plane in the air. This is especially bad toward the end of the month at morning rush hour. They usually have multiple units in the cemetery. Visit and see what’s goin’ on where you ride. “BEANCAN”

1/28/2012 - Well the Scootergoods Traveling Bike Show at High Octane was “Kick Ass” & that was all possible by all you ScooterHeads in attendance! Without all of you, these events would not be the success that they are & for that we thank you all! Those of you that did not attend - you missed one of the best one’s yet. The parking lot overflowed - Great people, Great location, Great Staff & Great weather with Lawless Intent pounding out Classic Rock - Lawless Intent style. The return of the “Big Ragoo” puts the icing on the cake - does not get any better! We have us another cold snap here (colder than frozen dog shit) and by the time the March issue comes out, we will be sunny Florida again. There are plenty more events coming up & as mentioned in past issues, we have been seeing more & more new faces. That just means more people having fun & that’s what it’s all about. We continue to hit the local bike nights & you might want to check out the bike night’s that Joy puts out. Each bike night has something different plus plays some demo CD’s from local bands. You can see Joy’s bike nights every Tuesday at the Horse and Crown & every other Thursday at the Coney Island. As the GOP primary’s continue to unfold, we have our usual lies, back stabbing & some plain outright BullShit! We have had one candidate bow out due to his (true or false) (Cont. 50)

DonV, I am sending this email on behalf of our employee, Ron. Ron is a pressman here and normally prints the guts of Scootergoods Magazine each month. His brother was killed Feb.15th in Largo. Ron’s brother’s name is Timothy Sellers and he just celebrated his 40th birthday in January. He was born Jan 21, 1972 and died Feb 16, 2012. He was on his motorcycle riding home on Indian Rocks Road when he didn’t negotiate a curve in the road. No one really knows what happened exactly but he was not wearing a helmet and hit a palm tree. The family was able to get to the hospital in time to say their good-byes before he passed. If he had been wearing his helmet he, most likely, would have survived since the majority of the damage was to his skull. He was single and had no children but he did leave his dog, Trixie, behind. Trixie already has a new home thank goodness. Thank you, Susan Starling Starling Printing, Inc. RON the entire Scootergoods Staff would like to convey our sincerest condolences on the loss of your brother Tim.

Biker Humor A bear and a bunny are sitting in a forest taking a shit. The bear leans over to the bunny and says “Do you ever have the problem of shit sticking to your fur”? The bunny says “No”. So the bear grabbed the bunny and wiped his ass. 3 nuns were talking. The 1st nun said, “I was cleaning in Father’s room & found a bunch of pornographic magazines. So I threw them in the trash. The 2nd nun said, I was putting away the Fathers laundry and I found a bunch of condoms!” “Oh my!” gasped the other nuns. “What did you do?” they asked. “I poked holes in all of them!” she replied. The third nun fainted.

(HD Gene from 58) beloved Anna meeting up at Gulf and Crystal River Harley and the Bayport Inn and ride over to the Sail Inn. Any donations made from the run will help support Hospice of Pasco County. We all share in your loss Cherokee and are always there to help others in their time of need and will see you there! Since we have big bike events coming up starting with Bikeweek over in Daytona Beach March 9-18th we all need to get in training. Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Ole Skool Bike show is one of the best places you can check out while there on March 15th in Ormand Beach. The parking lot is always overflowing with all kinds of cut, chopped, raked, baked ,ratt, one off custom and on and on, you think of it, its sitting in the lot, along with many of the popular bike builder out there. You never know who you will bump into there so have a camera ready! Plus its by far the cheapest deal on drinks, some serious inkslingin and cool threads to wear while you keep your knees in the breeze. I always recommend hititng the local outside daytona bars and such cause its usually a better deal on grub n drinks and the cops aren’t hammering down on you ever step of the way. So if you do hit Main Street bring your bail money and don’t phuck up in front of da coppers! But if you aren’t doing the Daytona thing then meet up with me March 10th at the Sail Inn for a Strip Club Support Single Mom’s fun run. Plan is to meet up around noon time and KSU around 1pm and breeze down to Brass Flamingo to start. We will double back from there and hit Calendar Girls and Lolipops and swing back to the Sail Inn after we catch a few shift changes! Bring your girls with you they are welcome and we always have the best time when we do! There’s lots more to do in the coming weeks and April of course brings us Leesburg Bikefest April 26-29th and the big party at Windy Acres farms close by in Fruitland park! Leesburg is fun but WAF is where the real party is at, so get your ass down and party with Scootergoods and the BIG RAGOO! for all the details! Dont forget about the 8th Brooksville Biker Rodeo May 10th to 13th! People are coming from all over the country for this party!!!!! Our March Centerfold Miss Kim should be down also for her first rodeo so if you ask nice im sure she will do some photos with ya! Til Next month Ride Safe and Live Free!!! HDGENE & SweetJerseyGirl

February 11, 2012 was a day of mixed emotions for me. First it was a day of rememberance and sharing stories about our dear departed friend Jolly Roger. Road Queen and Mickey’s Bar in Crystal River hosted a day full of friends, food, music, raffles and stories about Roger formally of Jolly Roger Tattoos. Bottoms Up rocked the house and donated their time for 4 hours! Many of Roger’s friends from Ohio and Georgia were actually able to make the trip and a few even brought their bikes! We even held a “Jolly Roger” tattoo contest for anyone who had a tattoo done by Roger. Not sure who’s idea it was but George at Mickey’s and Chrissy from Bubba’s Fin and Feather chipped in and ponied up $50 in prize money for the winner. In the end it could not be decided between 2 people so they split the prize.

It was also the First Annual Blessing of the Bikes for everyone in Citrus County. We hope to grow this event every year. There were well over 125 motorcycles in attendance at one point. Approx 65 bikes were Blessed according to the Christian Motorcycle Assoc. It was a great day considering it was supposed to rain. It was breezy, oh hell it was WINDY which made it a bit cold but many still came. I think next year we’ll incorporate a beautiful back roads ride and plan something big for the 2nd Annual Blessing of the Bikes. So watch for it here and thanks to all who came out! I’ll leave you know with some pictures of the event and Thanks Again! I’ll miss you my friend Jolly Roger Frost! “Road Queen”

AS of this writing 2/16/2012 - Singer Whitney Houston passed away and her home state (New Jersey) Governor Chris Christie orders the American flag to be flown at half staff? Granted Whitney Houston had a great voice but this is also the same Whitney Houston who was addicted to drugs most of her adult life, total erratic behavior & married to Bobby Brown. Now this warrants the honor of having the American flag flown at half staff upon her death? WTF - is this telling the kids across America? This is a slap in the face to those that earned the honor of having the American flag flown at half staff upon their death! Secondly - “NO” state governor has the authority to do so! The only authority a state governor has pertaing to the American flag is: Per Public Law 110-41 “Authorizing governors to issue proclamations to half-staff the flag upon the death of a member (from that state) of the armed forces who dies serving on active duty.” Another fine example of our government doing what ever and when ever the hell they want to do it! What the hell is the state of New Jersey thinking? My thoughts and sticking to it - Brother John

Hello Scooterfolks, A few years ago a few friends and I were thinking about a ride around Lake Okeechobee, but like a lot of plans it never materialized, we would talk about it occasionally but for some reason or another we never could get it together, but this year things seemed to fall into place, so on Jan. 22nd the four of us decided to meet at our friend Rick’s house in Naples. I rode down from Spring Hill, my other friend R.D. rode up from the Key’s and Larry flew in from Detroit. Over dinner we made plans for the ride, in the morning we left at the crack of 10am and were on our way to the lake. after about 20 miles my bike started to run a little rough, thinking it might be some bad gas we continued on, by the time we got to Clewiston the bike was barely running, we pulled into a coin car wash, after a quick diagnosis we determined the points had closed up, after adjusting the points the bike ran fine. One thing about riding a antique bike is they are simple and easy to work on. We rode up to the town of Okeechobee and spent the night. On our way there we noticed a large levee built alongside the lake blocking the view. (Next Pg.) LAKE INFO The Big O, is the largest freshwater lake in the state of Florida and the 2nd largest freshwater lake contained entirely within the lower 48 states. Lake Okeechobee covers 730 square miles. It is half the size of Rhode Island, and is exceptionally shallow, with an average depth of only 9 feet. The lake stretches across the boundaries of 5 Counties

(Milkie from 68) The next day we road around the rest of the lake looking at this big dirt levee. There were a few places to drive up and over it to a boat ramp but not many, and one tall bridge with a view of the lake. The homes around the lake have levee front property instead of lake front property. Well 110 miles of looking at a big pile of dirt was a little disappointing but a good ride with friends priceless. If you ever decide to take this ride don’t expect to see any water. I went to few local bike nites, the Horse & Crown on Tuesday is getting better by the week and the Coney Island is always good, hope to see you around. Be safe MILKIE

CAPTAIN SCOTTY: Whats up Brothers and Sisters: Many of you may have asked over the years who is Captain Scotty, some fisherman running a head boat or some other deal, well the answer is Civil War Reenactor and Living Historian. Yes after 27 years of this I am the current and long time Captain of the 8Th Fl, Co, B. Hardy’s Brigade, and one of the founders of it. It has grown to be one of the largest in the South East and the best unit in the world. So whats that got to do with food, OK lets see. Talking about food the average civil war soldier would have to eat is a real interesting thing, Now the union was way more prepared on many things and food was one. They had more railroads more land more vegetables, grain you name it, the south did not, we had beef and salt sugar and allot of Cotton but blockades and less mobility made it a hard game to play.Think of no refrigeration for one, everything salted or dried or smoked, yes the can was invented in 1795 and the mason jar in 1858 these at that time were very expensive to produce it wasn’t till 1880 to 1890 that automated can making came on the scene. So men would do all they could to steal, kill, barter, you name it the term was called forage they even made special caps called forage caps or bummers they look like the Kepi every one is familiar with but very deep like a top hat and it just flopped over and was used to hold items while rooting around. Now ya all listen good and this is no typo! In 1864 the basic daily ration for a union soldier was (Cont. 73)

So next time ya don’t eat that last bite think of this or when your kid don’t eat supper cuz he don’t like it or ate to many candy-bars, put a boot up his ass ass and give a Rebel Yell and remember we got it pretty good here now a-days. and better yet make em some Hardtack 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons lard 1 cup water, mix lard and flour together in a bowl add water and knead into a dough, on a board with flour dust on it form a loaf dust it good with flour and pound with mallet or fist until its 1/2 in. thick fold dough into 5 or 6 layers and pound out again, do this 5 or 6 times. using a dusted rolling pin roll out to 1/4 in. thick cut into 3inch squares and poke rows of holes into squares this helps cooking place on a baking sheet at 350deg. for 30 min. or light brown leave in oven to cool (turn it off ) the army used it as it was pretty nutritious and unlikely to spoil it did get weevils but hey protein, it was soaked in coffee fried in bacon fat or crumbled into soup if ya still had good teeth ya just ate it but it IS HARD! so YE HA “Until We Eat Again” Captain Scotty

The world famous Schott motorcycle Jacket. In 1913, as Ford’s new Model T began to crowd the already bustling streets of New York City, two brothers, the sons of a Russian immigrant, went after their piece of the American Dream. Irving and Jack Schott started making raincoats in a basement on the Lower East Side of Manhattan which were then sold by street peddlers door to door.By the mid-twenties, Schott NYC was revolutionizing the way Americans dressed for the outdoors when they were the first to put a zipper on a jacket. Eager to innovate, it was no surprise that Irving Schott then set his sights on another American classic - the motorcycle. In 1928, Irving Schott designed and produced the first leather motorcycle jacket. Irving Schott’s leather jackets were lovingly branded with the name of his favorite cigar - the Perfecto. Retailing for $5.50 at a Long Island Harley Davidson distributor, the Perfecto was durable, rugged, and immediately embraced. To this new generation of “bikers,” the Perfecto was a symbol of the excitement, adventure and danger that fueled their fascination with motorcycles. AFTER WORLD WAR 2 this country was witnessing the rise of a new rebellion one that would be fought with fast cars and Rock and Roll. In 1954, the now cult classic “The Wild Ones” featured the hot young actor, Marlon Brando, perched on his motorcycle wearing his Schott Perfecto®. The subsequent spike in popularity of the Perfecto® surprisingly resulted in decreased sales. The jackets were banned by school systems around the country because they symbolized a burgeoning teen demographic, the hoodlum. Just one year later, the Perfecto® was catapulted to the height of its popularity when a love for speed ended the life of the quintessential hoodlum. It is said that James Dean could hardly ever be seen without his Perfecto®. But for the Biker world the leather jacket is a mandatory part of our wardrobe in the winter for warmth. So there you have it a brief history of the 1st motorcycle jacket and who invented it right here in the GOOD OLE U.S.A. “2 Dog Joe”

Motorsickle News More Schitt goin’ down in Myrtle Beach causing ABATE Boycott In another twist following the controversial announcement of Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson’s Spring Cruisin’ the Coast dates, the Horry County (S.C.) Chapter of ABATE has announced it will boycott the two dealerships involved in the event. Gary Balcom, coordinator of the chapter, said his group will boycott at Phil Schoonover’s Harley-Davidson stores in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, according to a report on The group is upset the dealer has planned to hold its event May 18-28, extending the dates of Myrtle Beach Bike Week, which runs May 11-20, and running the dealership event up against the Atlantic Beach Bike Week, which runs Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28. Balcom said he supports the Horry County Council’s idea to prohibit vendor permits from being issued during the Spring Cruisin’ the Coast rally’s extended dates, but he doesn’t think the permits already issued for the Myrtle Beach Bike Week should be revoked. The council’s Committee of the Whole is scheduled to meet on Feb. 14 to discuss its plans for the vendor permits. And again it would appear controversy and greed have taken over to put us Bikers in the middle again. I applaude the S.C. Chapter of ABATE for taking a stand againgt the bullschitt the Harley dealers in their area are trying to shove down their throats. SO A BIG ATA BIKER TO THEM ALL!!!! “Crazy Bastid”

On Sunday the 12th of February, it was 38 degrees at the house. I met Benje and we picked up some friends at Mike’s Friendly Pub to meet & headed down to the Sand Trap in Weeki Wachee, for the “It’s about You” party. When we arrived Lawless Intent was already kicking out some tunes and people were relaxed. The weather was a lot better by then, and people were starting to ride in. The Big Ragoo could not stand being still, so he got up and gave away some free schitt, provided by Jeff, the owner of the Sand Trap. The food was ready, so we all grabbed a plate and had at it. A BIG ATTA BIKER to Darrell who did a damn good cooking. Most of the SGM Staff was present also. Thanks to Jeff & Myrna along with the entire staff at the Sandtrap for all their hard work. (Cont.
