WEEKLY UPDATE 16

MARCH 2018

children sharing the cross they had made in after school club! Mrs Joyce took each class for a beautiful collective worship on the theme of love. Our children were very prayerful and shared their ideas about how they can show love to everyone during Lent.

Thank you for your continuing support, Mrs B. O’Donoghue

PTA

The PTA were thrilled at the turnout of the last meeting last Wednesday. They were particularly pleased to see so many new parents from Nursery. Pamela Reckert will be the new blue group PTA representative and there is a Nursery night out planned for Thursday 15th March, 8pm at the Beagle to welcome the new starters. All welcome. As is tradition, to celebrate St. Patrick’s day at St. John’s, there will be mass at 9.15am in the sport’s hall on Friday, 16th March followed by a PTA coffee morning with some traditional Irish dancing. We won’t be having the usual musical celebration on that day as all the musicians are involved in the Irish music celebration at the Irish heritage centre or are in Nigran on the Spanish exchange. We will arrange for a musical celebration later in the year when everyone is available! There will be the annual quiz night on Friday 20th April. Tickets will be on sale soon but put the date in your diaries.

READING

Mrs Speak (our English Leader) organised a meeting to explain how the teaching of reading works here at St.John’s last week. We have introduced Guided Reading this term and it has been very successful so far and the children are really enjoying the new books. Mrs Speak explained how it works and how the approach has a great impact on the progress of our children. The notes and ideas from the meeting will be put on the website for those that couldn’t make it.
