About our Auction

“The day following the All Nations Cup finals holds an event now highly anticipated in its own right — the annual Schoukens Training Center auction. This year was the fourth edition of what has become a premier marketplace for Arabian horses, a�racting over 600 people from all around the world. Reminiscent of the ambience at the high-class Sco�sdale sales of the past, the auction was an elegant affair designed to showcase a selection of remarkable horses consigned by a variety of farms. It was an exceptionally well-run event with meticulous a�ention paid to every detail. “ “Set in a large tent erected at the Belgian facility, a dreamy atmosphere was punctuated by laser lights and a purple haze of lightly billowing stage smoke. The scene was made all the more dramatic by the plaintive notes of a masterfully played saxophone emanating from the center of the presentation ring. Tables of guests ringed the turnout with the auctioneer’s stand rising as a backdrop. Horses were presented in hand and were turned loose in the ring to strut their stuff for the admiring crowd. The auctioneer exhibited his expertise, seeming to know just how long to keep the bidding coming and when to bang the gavel and sell the horse.” “The event was top-notch from start to finish, with surprise showings of today’s popular breeding stallions interspersed among the sale lots. Four of the breeds most influential sires were greeted with adoring cheers such as Gold World Champion QR Marc (Marwan Al Shaqab x Sweet Dreams), “The Champion Maker,” WH Justice (Magnum Psyche x Vona Sher Renea), ES Sarab (Marajj x Mahjesty) a young and upcoming sire and SMA Magic One (Psytadel x Majidah Bint Pacha).“ By THERESA CARDAMONE

Vet Interview Q&A with Lies De Rudder - Vet at STC

Did you grow up with horses? I did not really grew up with horses. I grew up on a farm with beef-cows, sheep and pigs. I always loved being arround animals, all types of animals. That is something that I shared my father. I was always arround him helping on the Farm. I always had a fascination for horses but it was only later during vet school that i really worked with them. Have you always loved horses- When did your fascination for the Arab-Horse started? I started working with horses during vet school an noticed that i really loved being arround them. I learned about the arab-horse during my first job and later in Qatar where i worked with straight egyptians in Al Waab Farm. I had to learn alot about how the arab-horse business worked. In the beginning i did not always understand the arab-horse, but the longer i worked with them the more i started to appreciate and love them. The first shows that i went to were in Qatar and that is were my fascination really started. I wanted to learn more What makes the Arabian horse so special? How does it enrich your life? An arabian horse is for me the most fascinating breed of all horse breeds. They all have there own special way of thinking. I myself as a breeding vet, love to learn more about the bloodlines and how the owners make there decision concerning breeding. Everytime a foal is Born it is exciting to see what te result is and how it will grow up. Do you have a special bond with a horse? If yes, what horse and why? I do not really have one horse that I have a special bond with. If I had to chose my favorite horse at Schoukens I think it would be ES Sarab. When he was showing in Menton in 2018 I was really nervous and that was something that I never had before. I love the stallion, he is really sweet, and the babies he produced are amazing. What do you like most about your job? What I love about my job is to be able to contribute in de Arab-horse breeding. To keep the bloodlines going and keep them healthy. Also the foalings I love. The birth of a foal is for me still something very special and exciting. Being a vet is something I always wanted to be and I am so blessed I can do it with these horses. It has brought me places I thought I would never go, arround the world. Are you looking forward to something this/next year? I am looking forward just to work with these horses for a long time. I love working at Schoukens. The horses are nice and the people are amazing. The whole team I concider my friends an they are all important in their own way. I looking forward to work with them for a long time.

Briony with Malikat Al Moluk What I like most about my job as a trainer, to me, this is not a job. This is a lifestyle, it is my passion. I would never want to change it. At Schoukens training center, the team have made me feel very welcomed from the first day. It is like a big family. The reason I love taking care of Arabian horses are that they are very unique. They are very intelligent, quick learners and they love a bond with their caretaker. When they trust you, they will do anything for you. Even when I have a day off, I always think about horses, I have my own horses at home so I always call home to check how my horses are.

The satisfaction you get when you are given horses to train, you watch how the horse develops, it is very rewarding knowing that you have trained the horse and they are happy. From the first day at STC, there has been many experiences. When I see the horses entering the arena and give a great performance is the best feeling, especially when I see my training horses enter the arena happy. I cannot wait for the next show season to start, for a new adventure and to create new memories with STC. I would like to say a big thank-you to Tom, Glenn and Cathy for allowing me this opportunity to work with these amazing horses!
