2022 – We Rise Together! A Message From Tiff Thompson, PhD, MFT, QEEGD, REEGT, BCN CEO Of The School Of Neurotherapy

Hi Friends, A note to say, foremost, thank you for your support in this endeavour of building an online school. After years of being asked for help in finding the route to becoming a neurotherapist, we’re finally geared to serve neurotherapy professionals and all those who seek neurotherapy-specific curricula— all stages, all ages. While the development process has neither been cheap nor free of glitches and snags, its finally at a place where it’s a true resource, including two full online curricula (BCIA and QEEG) calendars of upcoming course content, online libraries of recordings to all past courses, and ways that users can connect through the mentorship portal. This will be a work in progress for, perhaps, a lifetime. We hope in 2022 to have a literature library of brain-related content, organized by topic, so you can do a deep literature review any time you feel like it. Like a good wine, this resource will continually improve with time. (I wish the same for all of us!). We are all so fortunate to have this profession of ours. What I have realized over the years is the deeper I dig into brain science, the more I find I was previously unaware of. This process of excavation is delightful and exhilarating—diving deeper into the annals of neuroscience and the applications of neuromodulation, light, frequency—is truly captivating. This process of learning more by digging deeper is comparable only to the thrill of brainstorming, inventing and creating new ways to apply all that we know (a process to which I tip my hat to my futuristic husband, Dr. Nicholas Dogris, the mad scientist behind Neurofield hardware and software). The upward trajectory of what we are doing, individually and collectively, to improve the lives of our clients is so very rewarding (not to mention cool). And looking back, year after year after year, I am truly impressed with how much more I know (and sometimes embarrassed of how much less I knew) from the past to the present. This is a humbling experience, every time, and is the nature of devotees to our field. We will surely never catch up to the pace of discoveries of the brain and in this field we know and love. But what fun trying, eh? So, this is our legacy, all of ours. To improve the world with the ever-expanding knowledge of clinically applied neuroscience, which we’re uniquely privileged to pursue and apply, brain-by-brain, helping each individual evolve, physiologically, psychologically, and dare I say spiritually. Blessed are we. I appreciate your friendship and your camaraderie in this profession, as well as your celebration with us of new life, symbolically and literally, as perennial as the grass. We hope to connect with you at the conferences of 2022, most notable the Neurofield 2022 conference in September 16 to 18 here in beautiful Santa Barbara. This module will cover the history and development of neurofeedback, the seminal studies in neurofeedback, assumptions underlying neurofeedback, and an overview of human learning theory.

This module will cover the fundamental electro-chemical functioning of EEG, the functional correlates of EEG, ERPs, SCPs, fundamentals of neuroplasticity, and functional neuroanatomy (including ascending sensory pathways; thalamic, cortical, and subcortical generators of EEG; general cortical and subcortical anatomy; major functions of cortical lobes; major subcortical structures; Brodmann areas) as well as the meaning of metrics (such as connectivity, phase, and coherence), and EEG networks and tracts.

This module will cover the basics in electronics and instrumentation, including impedance, differential amplifier principles, basic electrical terms, and common mode rejection. This module will also cover signal acquisition, signal processing, artifacting, normal EEG patterns, equipment and client hygiene, with video demonstrations much of the above.


Chapter 4: Research Evidence Base for Neurofeedback (2 hours) This module will cover the methods and statistics used to determine neurofeedback efficacy, as well as key research studies.

Chapter 10: Ethics and Professional Conduct (2 hours) This module covers all ethical and professional considerations for neurotherapy clinicians, including: Advertising, marketing, and public statements, CEs and training, scope of practice, client rights,liability insurance, acceptance of client insurance, supervision, and clientclinician relationships.

1. Submit an application to the BCIA. 2. Pay the $150 registration fee 3. Take a live or online Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, or Physiological Psychology course and provide a transcript or proof of successful completion. 4. Take a 36-hour didactic training course. 5. EEG in Depth is the theory of Dr. Thompson’s doctoral dissertation, which draws connections between Jungian lenses of psychodynamic principles and EEG, drawing relation between Jung’s collective unconscious and the frequencies of delta, Jung’s personal unconscious and the frequencies in the theta range, the theories of active imagination, meditation and “the bridge” between conscious and unconscious realms and alpha, the ego and beta, and states of actualization and gamma. Drawing from case studies, human psychological acts, such as compensation (a natural process of reestablishing a certain balance in the psyche), dream, shadow, complex, repressions and suppressions, “self” vs. “Self,” and synchronicity will be explored in the dimensions of raw and quantitative EEG, as well as components in Independent Component Analysis.

Neurofield Neurotherapy Bootcamp “Reloaded” 2.0 $1,750 The NeuroField 2.0 5-day Bootcamp is more than just a refresher for clinicians who have taken the Neurofield Basic training in the past. This seminar is designed to get clinicians and technicians up to speed on the use of noise (pink/ brown/white) in the clinical application of stimulation, creating your own customized protocols for your clients. In addition, this deep dive takes you beyond simple EEG and QEEG analysis into the advanced techniques of Independent Components Analysis and Event Related Potential testing, for a higher level of applied computational neuroscience. Designed with clinicians of all levels in mind, this course will teach you multiple techniques and procedures through didactic lecture and hands-on training. Dr. Nicholas Dogris and Dr. Tiff Thompson will teach you advanced neurostimulation, analysis, and neurofeedback procedures from the ground up. This intensive experience will challenge you and help you advance your knowledge in the field of neuromodulation and neurostimulation. We will begin the training by teaching you how to use the NeuroField EEG software platform, including raw analysis and the generation of quantitative data in the form of power analyses and Independent Components Analysis. This process is the first step in the decision tree of how to treat the condition at hand. NeuroField64 combines and a series of forms of neuromodulation: Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field stimulation (pEMF), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), transcranial alternating current stimulation(tACS), Pink Noise and Brown Noise, as well as transcranial random noise stimulation stimulation (tRNS) modalities. Neurofield Neurotherapy Advanced Training And Think Tank $940 The NeuroField Neuromodulation Advanced Training and Think Tank is designed to enhance your skills in EEG and QEEG assessment, analysis, map interpretation, neuromodulation and treatment planning in the NeuroField64 software platform, Event Related Potentials in NeuroField ERP, as well as Independent Components Analysis via Neurofield EEG.
