He provides a comprehensive range of services filled with action, excitement and entertainment which are guaranteed to engage, involve and educate children of all ages. He offers hands on skills workshops; circus skills performance or character walkabouts during school fetes or fun days.

A circus skills workshop is an ideal class activity that can be taught to children of all ages and abilities. It provides an excellent catalyst for group interaction and involvement, with an almost magical ability to engage and enthral all participants. In addition to the physical benefits of this active pastime, everyone who participates will gain a genuine sense of achievement as they begin to master the elementary skills required to perform tricks they thought impossible. Concentration, perseverance and focus will be developed as your pupils tackle these new skills as will their balance, self esteem and rhythm. Skills such as juggling with scarves, clubs and balls or rings can be taught, as can use of diablos, unicycles, spinning plates, tightwire, devilsticks and pedalgos (depending on group size and age). Central to every workshop is the getting everyone involved and having fun and such is the appeal of this unique experience that is never a problem. Circus skills can also be a powerful tool when working with otherwise disaffected or pupils and can help to break down barriers, re engage and open communications. Jim can provide workshops as a one off or several in succession throughout a school day. These can be combined with a performance for the class or a whole school assembly where he can showcase some of his many talents to inspire your pupils for the lessons ahead. Jim is also available to hire solely as a performance artist, either as an end of term show or as part of a school fete or other event and in addition to his stage show he can deliver ‘performance walkabouts’ where he will mix and mingle with the crowd in one of many amusing and inventive costume characters.

Chalemina Historical Workshops and Shows for children aged 2-11 Chalemina give a variety of shows and workshops to children aged 2 to 11 years. We are an early music and dance ensemble. Our presentations always include a wide range of instruments and lots of audience participation. The workshops we offer are: Henry VIII – Britain’s Most Musical Monarch, the Musical Adventures of Sir Francis Drake, and Music and the Industrial Revolution. Workshops last approximately on hour.
“You brought so many fantastic instruments – they loved it!” Head of Music, Chandlings Prep School “The children were absolutely spellbound, a wonderful show.” Barnes Music Society Pat Smith
Tudor Workshop – Performed in costume, with instruments, songs and dances from Henry VIII’s court. Chalemina set this workshop in a historical context. Children learn how the Tudors lived, what they ate, their manners, their clothing, how they kept clean and entertained. Chalemina play many Tudor instruments including harp, lute, crumhorn, hurdy-gurdy and viol. They also dance to the pipe & tabor, compare it to other wind instruments, analyse the mechanism of the hurdygurdy, the shawm and other wind instruments. Discoveries Workshop - The Musical Adventures of Sir Francis Drake – Children aged 7-11 sail with Drake in a musical recreation of his famous Circumnavigation of the World. Chalemina introduce the musicians Drake took on board his cramped ship, together with a huge array of unusual instruments they took and discovered on their travels – dulcimer, crumhorns, pipe and tabor, panpipes, mbira, ud and qanun. Join in singing, dancing and playing with the Tudors and the peoples they met in Africa and South America! Victorian Workshop - Wheels of Wealth and Poverty – The Industrial Revolution brought cotton mills to Lancashire, and wealth to the country. What did Victorian people to do entertain themselves at home and abroad? How did Victoria’s merchant sailors keep fit and how did they keep themselves amused during their long voyages? Ships and factories were driven by coal; but why did miners form brass bands? With children’s participation in dancing and singing, Chalemina illustrate and answer these questions. Historical anecdotes are woven together with song and dance to produce an entertaining and educative mix. Performed in costume by Chalemina, children are encouraged to dress up for this workshop.
10
Chalemina perform costumed shows with simple sets and early instruments, for children aged 2-10. Their shows have lots of audience participation. Chalemina work as a duo in workshops and shows and are very happy to discuss which show or length of workshop is most suitable for your school’s event.

Joliba African Drum and Dance Workshops David Woolley studied West African Djembe and Djuns under the guidance of Drum/Dance master Almami Kamara aka Maitre Samsou during his time in the Gambia, he also played with members of Allah Tantoo, Follocoh, Canella and African Ballet. During his visit Almami Kamara’s newest group, Joliba, were rehearsing to perform during the new tourist season and David spent some 3 months rehearsing and forming strong links with them. David has been returning to West Africa during the last 10 years as a student and as an Aid for a small charity. “Many thanks for all your hard work, energy and enthusiasm yesterday. You certainly made a favorable impression on all the students;they have given me some really positive feedback regarding your sessions. I look forward to working with you again in the near future on similar projects.” Bill Moss, Head of Music, Weston Road High School, Stafford
Joliba are experienced working with schools, colleges and community groups with workshops tailored to suit all ages and abilities. Their aim is to inspire students and develop their learning with workshops in West African Drumming and Dancing. Drumming is a powerful way to enhance the creative potential of students, giving them self-confidence and selfesteem and is suitable for students of all ages with varied abilities and different backgrounds. Joliba will bring authentic African drums and percussion instruments to your school and lead students through a memorable experience of music and community. Emphasis is placed on learning how to play together through listening, cooperation, respect, and teamwork. With the facilitation of Joliba every participant will get the opportunity to play instruments and the group will create rhythms together. Workshops are flexible and can be tailored to meet requirements. Drum and Dance workshops provide an inspiring and memorable day that is both educational and fun and meets many requirements of the National Curriculum. Depending on age and ability, dance workshops encourage students to move imaginatively, respond to music and to choreographic instruction and to perform to a live audience. Workshops encourage teamwork and increase the awareness of group members as they complete their roles within the dance and enjoy a hugely rewarding experience. African Dance Production explores cultural diversity; study of a diverse art form and physical activity in all of their workshops. Everyone who participates will be able to raise their awareness of another culture; they will be able to learn appreciation and acceptance, which in turn, will help people to relate to each other on a different and more positive level.

Solo Circus Circus Skills For Schools
“The circus skills workshop has been an extremely successful addition to our youth development programme for vulnerable young people. Mark understood the needs of our group and has been flexible and responsive in his approach to designing and running the workshops over the past 3 years. He is a lively and engaging performer, quickly establishing a positive rapport with our young people and holding their attention through his demonstrations and group sessions. I would highly recommend the Solo Circus workshops as a way of engaging young people, developing their sense of achievement and having lots of fun at the same time.” Previous client
Circus skills workshops are a great addition to the school day for pupils and teachers alike. They can be incorporated as part of a health week to encourage exercise, as stand alone sessions or incorporated within the P.E. curriculum. Workshops are usually divided into short 30 minute sessions. During each session a single circus skill is taught to the whole group at the same time. This really helps to aid learning by not over challenging attention spans and focusing on learning one skill at a time. During a typical two hour circus workshop four skills can be taught, for example, ball juggling, plate spinning, diabolo and tight rope. Alternatively, some schools opt to have four one hour sessions each with a different group learning two skills. Learning circus skills is an engaging and inclusive activity for all ages and abilities that will spread a feel good factor around your school. It is a non competitive activity, which is equally appealing to pupils who dislike more conventional physical/sporting activities. Circus skills can instil a genuine sense of achievement from the first minute to the last as skills are learnt in incremental steps. It can also improve concentration and co-ordination and develop discipline, encouraging perseverance through mastering repetitive actions. All workshops include fun demonstrations throughout, in which Mark uses his teaching and performance expertise to make activities educational and fun. Workshop design depends on your specific needs, how many children are present and over what time period. Mark generally structures the day to include two hours of circus skills in the morning and the same again in the afternoon with up to 30 participants per circus workshop but he can be flexible either way to some degree. Circus skills workshops are both educational and fun and can bring together people of different ages with different backgrounds and varied skill levels. Solo circus can cater for all ages and abilities from absolute beginners to advanced jugglers who wish to enhance their skills. Circus skills offered to schools include Ball and Club juggling, Devil Sticks, Hula Hoop, Diabolo, Plate Spinning, Object Balancing (on hand, chin, nose and head), Cigar Boxes, Wire Walking or Tight Rope walking, Stilt walking and Unicycling/pedal-go and mini bicycles.

The idea is to create new experiences for the audience, new forms and performers by creating work for new environments. Beeja’s workshops and residencies aim to share the enjoyment of dance, drama and music inspired by South Asian artistic practice. Beeja has extensive experience in working in a wide variety of educational and community setting – schools, museums & community centres. In bharatanatyam workshops the participants experience movements that capture the alignment and expressive beauty of the form. All sessions are accompanied by a percussionist on 'mridungam', a south Indian drum. Activities include experiencing the basic principles of rhythm and melody; enhancing interpersonal skills by working on the emotive aspect of this dance theatre; exploring creative aspects of dance in relation to a relevant topic, or theme. Beeja can deliver One day, or half a day workshops or after school clubs and theme based residencies. The workshop format is devised in consultation with the organisers ensuring that the participants get opportunity to experience and explore the form in a creative and enjoyable manner. Ideally these are conducted by a dancer and a musician or two dancers.

School Radio Create Your Own School Radio Station Radio is ideally suited to educational establishments such as primary and secondary schools, and higher education centres. A school radio station provides a cost effective and engaging platform for your students to express their opinions, and to develop communication and listening skills while having lots of fun, and to develop communication and listening skills while having lots of fun.
“Since the start of Radio Warren at the beginning of the autumn term all pupils have had the opportunity to broadcast over the airwaves and The Big Friday Show is the highlight of the school week. There is evidence of a powerful impact of pupils’ speaking and listening skills.” Julie Wharton, SEN Inspector, Shirley Warren School
Radio is an inclusive activity for all ages and abilities which is less intimidating than other media, encourages speaking and listening skills, builds confidence and teamwork and provides a ‘voice’ for your students ideas and opinions. School Radio packages are designed to provide all the equipment that you will need to start your school radio station and a simple interface means that children of all ages and abilities will be able to get involved. Radio can be applied to education in a number of exciting ways. First there are the obvious areas like communication skills, drama and music but there are endless opportunities for schools to explore with their radio equipment. As more schools turn to radio as an educational tool, the range of projects and ideas is growing exponentially.
Make an Advert Pupils create a radio advert for a fictional product. They decide on the product, research similar products, come up with a name and marketing concept for the product. They write a script for the advert, record any necessary sound effects before finally producing their advert. The adverts are then played to the class for review.
Historic Event News Coverage
Key information
Students research a historic event and record a radio news article as if reporting live. They think about what it would have been like to be there, and how it may have been reported to the general public at the time. Students can then write a script for the news article, possibly including interviews with 'key' people involved.
R R R R R R
Record A Radio Play Performing a radio play is easier than putting on a real play as no scenery is needed and students can read from scripts instead of learning lines, but it is also much more interesting than simply reading a play. Students can also consider sound effects and how to create the atmosphere of the play in an 'audio only' environment. Radio is a versatile medium that can be used in almost all areas of education at all levels and will add a new and dynamic dimension to your school curriculum.

Major Mustard Creative and Practical Workshops Major Mustard is one of Britain's top puppeteers and storytellers with over 30 years experience performing across the UK. As well as performances he provides a range of hands on practical, creative and educational workshops in schools and community venues. The range of projects encompasses many disciplines and provides a rewarding and engaging activity for all participants.
Junk Puppet Workshops – Simple but stunningly effective hand puppets created from ‘junk’ materials. A demonstration by Major Mustard is followed with a puppet making session. In the afternoon, participants bring their puppets to life with movement and learn how to give their puppets a voice. The new puppeteers then produce and perform their own show. Shadow Puppet Workshop – The session starts with a performance of a short series of shadow stories, followed by an explanation and demonstration of the techniques required to make the puppets. A 1½ hour making session follows. In the afternoon Major Mustard demonstrates techniques for performing a shadow story and participants all perform with their puppets behind the large screen. Teacher/Leader/Carer Workshops – introduces participants to the varied methods of making "Junk" or "recycled" puppets and demonstrates how to help and encourage children / adults to make this sort of puppet. The workshop also includes a session explaining how to bring puppets to life with action, movements and voices and finishes with ideas on putting performances together; creating a story and the choreography of the show. In addition to his work as a puppeteer Major Mustard is also an accomplished storyteller and can provide: Storytelling Workshop – "Making Stories" and "Telling Stories” are the main elements of a Major Mustard Storytelling Workshop. Tailored for KS1 or KS2 (or older), these workshops help develop listening, speaking and language skills through communication and co-operation. The workshop begins with a performance of short stories. Major Mustard works with the students to discover how stories are made. Then, in pairs or groups, students create their own stories. Major Mustard and the students explore and experiment with ways of presenting and telling their stories and the day culminates with a grand "Storytell". In both performance and workshop Major Mustard encourages a love of language and uses the listening and speaking skills which combined together form the basis of literacy, and are integral to the development of the spoken word.

Debutots Early Years Drama Established in 2003, Debutots Early Years Drama is the UK’s premier Drama-in-Education company for the early years. Engaging children with their fun-filled original stories, Debutots classes use interactive storytelling and dramatic play as a learning tool for children up to the end of Key Stage 1. Mapped to the EYFS and KS1 curricula, these unique sessions will empower children with confidence, creativity and a love of language.
“The children really enjoy the after school club. The stories engage their imaginations and they have all developed their ability to express ideas and feelings in a fun and imaginative way. The sessions are so exciting and enjoyable for all. Thank you so much!” Nuala McKinney, St. Finian's Primary School, Belfast
“We were delighted with the Debutots workshops in our school. This was primarily for Key Stage 1 pupils who thoroughly enjoyed all the classes and the improvement in their confidence was evident.” Victoria Park Primary School, Andrea Gourley Headmistress
On a weekly basis, school children are immersed in magical worlds of pretend play where they might physically explore rhyme doing the ‘Snuffle Shuffle’ with Henrietta Hedgehog or learn about road safety with Rafi the Rhino travelling to Safari School for the first time. Debutots has been expertly developed to map with the EYFS and Key Stage 1. The links are clearly outlined in the Debutots Creative Planning Pack© - a planning and observation resource provided to nurseries and schools when they book regular sessions. Nursery and school children enjoy Debutots’ engaging approach to learning as part of their weekly curriculum, an after-school club or during PPA time. Equally, teachers and nursery workers are able to reap the benefits of incorporating an enriching cross-curricular activity into their nursery or school, led by inspiring specialist practitioners who work within the proven Debutots framework. Jackie Ridsdale, Parkside School, where Debutots work weekly with the 2-7’s, sees the change it’s made to their year groups: “The Debutots sessions are excellent. The children are really enjoying it and I notice how valuable it is in helping them to gain confidence and self expression."
40
Since 2003, nurseries and schools have continued to outsource Debutots’ expertise term after term. Beverley Craig, Nursery Manager at Little Gem’s Nursery, said, “Debutots is fantastic and the children in our nursery really enjoy it. It is very beneficial to the children’s communication skills and we have seen improvement in their memory the way they can recall the stories. We like the way it also follows the curriculum and that’s why we are having Debutots back again into our nursery.”

Briony Jenkins and the team at Pigeon first splashed paint in a classroom in 1999, and since then they’ve just got bolder and brighter. The team have a passion for helping schools with personalised art projects, and specialise in helping schools to devise the right project for their needs. Briony explains her passion here.
At Pigeon Art Workshops we love children’s art and all of the things they make. We never run a session where we don’t see something amazing being made by someone. We like their dribbles and blobs, their mistakes and upside down bits. We like the way they see the world and how they go about showing it.

Pigeon Art Workshops in Schools
We are a team of artists and teachers who work with children and with adults in schools and organisations. We like the buzz of heads together making something amazing – we like to walk away leaving behind something that wasn’t there when we arrived. We want everyone to get excited and do more when we are gone. If you want something for your school, large or small, take a look around the two websites and see if anything appeals. We try to ring the changes with every single project so yours will look different to what you see there but it will look just as good. We are experienced classroom managers, combining our own art practises with our teaching experience. We can offer mosaics, textiles and 3D; we can work in wood and metal, paint and everything in between. We work indoors and outdoors and make temporary and longer lasting work. We work all the way from the nursery through to school leavers and include Special Needs children and schools.

Funoon Art School Islamic Art and Crafts Funoon Art School specializes in Islamic art and crafts. They aim to motivate children in their sessions by captivating their imagination and capabilities by teaching new skills that enrich the curriculum. Many crosscurricular links can be explored including mathematics, history, geography and religion. They have a variety of Workshops to choose from and project work and preparation for events can also be addressed.
Whilst there is no restriction to the creative imagination, some examples of workshops will give an idea of the areas of work they cover. Geometric Pattern Design – introduces students to the principles of geometry underlying Islamic Pattern and develops skills in the recreation of some of these designs using compass and ruler. Tiles and Mosaics – Children create a large tiled design which is divided so that each child has a part of the whole to decorate with glass paints. Embossed Tiles – This workshop involves using a variety of instruments to create a design on quick-drying clay to create tiles. These can later be painted. Small Coloured Mosaic Tiles – Children design patterns using squared paper and traditional examples e.g. eight point stars. Finished patterns are transferred to a hard surface and the appropriate coloured tiles are applied. Repeated Patterns – children observe repeat patterns in Global Islamic Art and experiment with stamping, cutting, sticking, stenciling, tiling, embossing, folding, with many textures and colours. Calligraphy – Writing Arabic Letters using a reed pen and ink or brush and paint. Calligraphy & Other Art Techniques – Calligraphy can made more interesting by using patterned backgrounds on handmade paper by stamping, air-brushing, painting or cutting shapes prior to writing. Creating such a work involves many skills and creativity. Molding – Using a molding preparation a mould is created from Islamic artifacts. The mould can then be filled with plaster to make replicas of the original. Religion – Religious topics such as prayer mat design may be of interest and descriptions from scriptures can provide inspiration for painting with acrylics and other media.

Blackbrook Zoological Park Conservation, Education and Fun Blackbrook Zoological Park is home to the largest bird collection in the UK and is internationally renowned for it’s achievements in breeding some of the world’s rarest birds. Conservation is at the heart of Blackbrook where they work hard to protect and breed their many rare species. Blackbrook has also established an extensive education programme to engage pupils with nature and conservation.
Blackbrook is a wonderful place for schools and groups to visit and provides a great opportunity for children to learn about birds and animals. They will tailor a visit to suit your individual requirements and can provide educational tours of the park from their experienced keepers. Blackbrook can accommodate coaches and have good facilities and access for disabled visitors. As well as the gift shop and tearoom, we also have various areas that groups can enjoy a picnic. We also have an education centre for groups to visit which is equipped with tables and chairs. A day at Blackbrook is littered with informative talks which coincide with feeding times. Talks are presented by enthusiastic keepers and last approximately 10-15 minutes including Meet the Keeper – enjoy the chance to see one of our owls up close. ‘Boris’ our European Eagle owl is the largest owl in the world with a wingspan of 5 foot making him a very impressive bird of prey Pelican Feed – An experience not to be missed! These are large impressive birds with a greedy appetite and the largest beak of any bird in the world. Penguin Feed – The fantastic penguin exhibit where you can view the penguins from a raised walkway or an underwater viewing cave. The keepers feed these loveable birds with fish and you can watch as the penguins dive into the water for their food. Lemur Feed – Come experience the wonderful lemurs of Madagascar. The keeper will explain how these old world primates live in the trees on the island of Madagascar and why it is so important to conserve these threatened species.

Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens Wildlife and Conservation
The Park is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2010. Over the course of the last 39 years, many thousands of children have visited the park with their schools and colleges, some coming back more than once in an academic year as part of their extended course work. In general, our educational programme talks place out in the Park using the animals at hand to illustrate the talk given. The talks are often given by Keepers who work with the animals on view on a daily basis. The Park is proud to have been the first UK zoo to be awarded the Quality Badge by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom in 2009. The Park’s extensive educational talks and tours programme caters for all areas of the National Curriculum as well as areas of FE and HE. Some talks are given simply to enthuse and inspire children whilst others have specific curriculum goals in mind, as well as enthusing and inspiring participants. Topics on offer range from ‘Caring for Animals’; ‘The World of Plants’ and ‘How Animals Feed’, aimed at reception and KS1 classes, though ‘Enclosure Design’ workshops and ‘Conservation of Endangered Species’ talks aimed at KS3 and 4 applied science courses to ‘Record Keeping and Studbook Management’ for FE and HE students. However, our education co-ordinator is always happy to discuss bespoke talks with teachers and lectures should you want a talk tailored to your curriculum. Our standard talks and tours last from 35 to 40 minutes and are provided free of charge for education groups visiting the Park from September to March. We charge for talks and tours in our busy, summer term, months. For full information of the Park and its facilities for school visits go to the Park’s website at www.cotswoldwildlifepark.co.uk.

Hereford Starlab The Solar System in School Hereford Starlab is a mobile planetarium bringing the Solar System and the Stars to your school with a range of inspiring and educational, instructor led shows that bring science to life. Starlab consists of a semispherical inflatable dome and a highly versatile projector which can be installed in just 20 minutes and wheel chair users and people with special needs can be accommodated easily.
Comments from headteachers: “Superb planetarium shows” “A very special experience” Comments from children: “It was brilliant when you put the stars up” “Helped me comprehend the solar system” “Cool, really cool”
When fitted with the northern starfield cylinder, the projector will show 3,000 stars, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The cylinder platform can be rotated manually or automatically to allow for seasonal changes, sunrise, sunset, multiphase moon or global rotation. It can also be set for any month of the year, time of day and geographic location. A variety of projection cylinders are available including Greek Mythology, (mythological figures are projected upon a starry background) or likewise for Ancient Egyptian Mythology. A portable Camera Obscura is also available. Shows are available for KS1 – 3 including, Physical Processes the Earth and Beyond, demonstrating the relative positions and orbits of the Earth and Moon with respect to the Sun and explaining day, night, the seasons and the changing Moon. A journey through the Solar System follows, showing slides of the Sun and planets and an explanation of the Sun as a star and the source of energy for the planetary system. Constellations are shown and the method of finding the Pole star is demonstrated along with the importance of Polaris for navigation.
The Light, Dark and Colour show provides pupils with a new and exciting experience of Light and Dark, expanding the concepts of colours, rainbows, shadows and light, day and night within the darkness of the planetarium. The interior is illuminated by a projector and coloured filters are used to demonstrate different coloured lights. The children can see what new colours are made when various filters are mixed together. The colours of the rainbow are shown using a prism and a curved rainbow is produced on the side of the dome. The concept of the sun giving us light and shadows (darkness) is introduced and long and short shadows are demonstrated. The earth-ball is used to show how day and night are caused as the Earth turns in the light of the Sun. Mythological figures in their constellations are then shown and some of the myths and legends associated with the major constellations told.

CREST Awards National STEM Award Scheme CREST is Britain’s largest national award scheme for project work in the STEM subjects – 25,000 young people have achieved CREST Awards in the last year alone. Run by the British Science Association, CREST gives young people aged 11-19 opportunities to explore real world projects in an exciting way – both in and out of class.
“I believe one of the greatest benefits the British Science Association brings is its efforts to enthuse young people about science.” Professor Robert Winston
CREST was established over 23 years ago. Since then, more than 300,000 young people have achieved a CREST Award. There are three levels of CREST Award – Bronze (typically 1114yrs), Silver (typically 14-16yrs) and Gold (typically 16-19yrs). Each is extremely flexible – students can carry out an investigation or design and make project, research a subject, or design a science communication activity. Students are encouraged to follow their own interests. The scheme is supported through an established network of around 40 Local Coordinators across the UK.
CREST helps 11-19 yr olds explore their fascination with the world –and adds value to your teaching. CREST’s flexible awards scheme caters for communication, research and design & make projects. Linking closely to the curriculum while building soft-skills, it gives students a tangible achievement for their curiosity.
The joy of the scheme is that it unlocks the potential or all students, and gives them a tangible recognition of success. CREST Awards can be included in personal records of achievement – and used to enhance applications to universities, colleges and potential employers. When you enter your students for a CREST Award, you can also be confident that they will be developing skills linked to the requirements of the curriculum. CREST is designed to be flexible. Project work can be achieved within curriculum time and will support work experience placements, after-schools clubs or numerous linked schemes including: the Engineering Educational Scheme, Go4SET, The Smallpeice Trust’s Engineering Experience Courses and Nuffield Science Bursaries, giving them a national currency and ensuring quality standards. At Silver and Gold levels, CREST Mentors facilitate links between schools, academia and industry. CREST has a strong, positive impact on students' attitudes to STEM and improves their aspirations for STEM-based careers. Many teachers feel that the scheme helps inform their teaching too.
52
Each year the achievements of CREST students are celebrated at the regional and national Big Bang events – and this year a CREST Award winner was named UK Young Scientist of the Year at the National Science & Engineering Competition.
Now that’s a lot of questions answered.

Bubblz! Inspiring Primary Maths Shows and Workshops Maths is FUN! Every child, every teacher and every parent matters during a session with Bubblz! Shows and workshops are intended to include all participants, leaving them with some food for thought, feeling the joy of maths and a sense of achievement. Enthusiasm guaranteed using a clown, giant balloons and soap bubbles!
“Thank you very much, the children have really enjoyed the shows and teachers have written many positive comments. We will definitely call on you again!” Maxine Pattison, Head Teacher, Ferry Lane Primary School, Tottenham
Bubblz’s shows are just right for the new primary curriculum. Inherently cross-curricular, the shows use geometry to explore and understand shape and space with a wondrous sense of excitement, allowing the audience to pursue lines of mathematical enquiry and apply logic and reasoning to mathematical problems. Audiences engage with the content through the irresistible resources that are used to illustrate some fundamentals of mathematics. Bubblz can present a Maths Assembly of 15 to 60 minutes at the start of a Maths Day or Maths Week, to introduce the children to this unique brand of inspiring maths. Bubblz loves parent & children (family learning) events and can provide follow-up maths packs to pursue the maths activities further, either at home or at school. Seasonal maths shows like Bubblz the Elf and the Xmaths Show are themed to discuss the use of maths for specific events, such as: ‘Can Christmas Exist Without Maths?’ Nursery children are entranced as they use the colourful visuals of bubbles and balloons to learn to count up, count down, size words, position words, non-standard measures and to identify shape, culminating in an exciting rocket release. These special maths shows and workshops are ideal for special needs (SEN) schools and inclusion requirements. Bubblz loves to facilitate workshops with all age groups including teachers & parents. Giant geometric structures and many other (sometimes weird, always wonderful) shapes are dreamed-up by participants who create them from chunky modelling balloons. The creations are experienced from the inside during the building process, giving participants a real sense of space and shape. Cross-curricular links are inherent as teams design, build and strive to achieve structural stability. Bubble Time! Winston Churchill’s Britain at War Experience
“Spot on for National curriculum for all age groups – quite amazing!” Dr. Anthony Freeman, Government, History Advisor

The museum has an astonishing collection of evocative photographs and an enormous number of actual relics. Everything from toilet rolls and soap to an Anderson shelter, you can sit in and hear air raids overhead. There are shops displaying what was available for purchase during the war years and a feature devoted to Winston Churchill. The particular emphasis is on the experience and impact of the Second World War in Britain and covers topics including: Sheltering in the Underground, Gas Masks, Anderson Shelters Rationing, Fighting Fires, Evacuation, and The Blackout. The suggested activities are of varying levels of difficulty and may be used for individual work or group discussion. The museum allows pupils to use a range of historical Artefacts, Documents, Posters, Printed Resources, Pictures and photographs, Film Music and Sound Recordings. Past Lives Greek Hoplite and Roman Soldier With over ten years experience of school visits Murray Edwards’ company, Past Lives presents an educational and fun day for your pupils, where they will learn about the history of Greek and Roman Empires and the day to day lives of their soldiers. This fascinating experience brings ancient history to life and presents pupils with a unique and memorable learning experience.
“I found out a lot from your visit my favourite part was when we got to hold and wear your armour. I enjoyed finding out more about the Romans especially because somebody was telling us about them and we didn't have to find out from books.” Pupil feedback
Greek Day with Archon a Hoplite from Phocia The pupils start the day taking part in the Myth of Troy, The Iliad or The Odyssey looking at myths, monsters and other characters. This is followed with a detailed look at a Hoplite and a description of his life in Greece including arms and armour and differences between Athens and Sparta. Weather permitting or a large enough hall some of the original Olympic games including the shield race can be practised and pupils can learn to form the Phalanx.
Roman Day with Titus the Centurion This begins with a talk on why the Romans came to Britain and highlights the differences between Celtic warriors and Roman soldiers, the Roman soldiers equipment and his weapons. This is followed by an outline of the daily life of a Roman soldier and includes trying on authentic costume and handling artefacts followed by Roman army training with swords & shields and all commands in Latin. Other topics can include ‘Games of Death’, ‘The Boudica Rebellion’ OR ‘Technology and the Roman Army’. A visit from a 'real' soldier is an experience that most children enjoy immensely and few forget. There can be no better way of enhancing a child's experience and understanding of a historical period than by literally bringing the past to life. The opportunities for enhancing the curriculum and for promoting follow up work are obvious.
62
Classes are suitable for KS2 to Sixth Form with opportunities for children to gain hands on experience of historical artefacts. Murray will arrive fully accoutred with museum quality weapons and equipment and in character. Questions are encouraged and time is usually set aside at the end to meet the children personally and allow them to handle artefacts and try on helmets, etc. under close supervision. Murray is attuned to safety issues and the weapons themselves are always handled with the greatest possible care.

MTa PASS Potential x Attitude x Skill → Success MTa PASS is an engaging and remarkably flexible experiential learning package for young people aged 8 – 18 that includes 17 activities to encourage whole brain learning. The package is designed to help students enjoy learning and feel included while developing interpersonal skills and a sense of responsibility.
“The teachers think this is the best resource we have in the school.” Mr El-Holiby, William de Ferres School “We have used MTa PASS with our autistic boys; it has provided a great structure to develop creative and life skills.” Stuart Knox, Swalcliffe Park School
The activities provided with MTa Pass are designed to be stimulating but non-threatening for students with diverse backgrounds. Some appear to be easy, e.g. stacking the components on top of each other, but various constraints can be introduced to add levels of complexity. Other tasks are clearly more challenging, e.g. making money by creating various geometric shapes which have predetermined values. MTa PASS is used by schools to support Inclusion. It is designed to help students develop the attitudes and behaviours that will help them remain in or return to main-stream education. MTa PASS activities require collaborative working, where success is achieved through understanding and utilising the strengths of others. The task and review process helps students identify areas for improvement and to develop the behaviours needed to succeed. Appreciating others' strengths provides a stepping stone into diversity and allows them to question their own attitudes and prejudices about others. Gifted and Talented students can have exceptional interpersonal skills, original and creative ways of approaching problems, or excel at expressing ideas in a clear and compelling way. MTa PASS activities provide these students with opportunities to push their own personal boundaries release more of their potential and develop key skills, attitudes and behaviours, to make greater use of their abilities. The activities engage students in a task, followed by structured learning reviews. The task is the platform for learning, i.e. during the learning review the outcome becomes the focus for analysis of performance and personal learning. Typically the analysis begins with individual work followed by group discussions to develop understanding and conceptual learning. The learning process is inherently flexible, so students with different needs can learn different lessons together. As a result of a single discussion one student might learn to be less dominant, another to ask more questions, and a third the importance of expressing their own views to other people. MTa PASS is a complete reusable pack for individual groups or classroom and includes hardwearing components, full teacher’s guide, sample lesson plan, encapsulated briefs and review sheets.
Key information R Promotes awareness, motivation, empathy, social skills R Enables students to evaluate and practice interpersonal skills R Activities are experiential; learning is student driven R Engaging contrast to formal lessons R Comes with full reusable teachers’ support materials R Can be used thoughout the school with students of all ages and abilities

Health Matters Education Health Focus Day Health Matters Education is a national partner in supporting Change4Life. Their wide range of high quality teaching resources help schools to achieve and importantly maintain National Healthy Schools Status. With a 'whole school approach' in mind these inspiring cross curricular resources demonstrate how settings and schools can implement a more ‘active and creative’ EYFS and KS1/KS2 curriculum.
“This was great! The children learnt a lot through the active element and I picked up some ideas for teaching.” Year 6 teacher, West Felton Primary School “It was fantastic because we were making our hearts fit. A really fun way of learning about our body and food groups.” Year 2 pupil
Health Focus Day - With a ‘whole school approach’ in mind, Health Matters Education is available to support individual schools through the delivery of their unique Health Focus Days. Focus days include a whole school assembly, health related exercise sessions for all children and elements of CPD for school staff and are fun, educational and inspiring. This exciting initiative from Health Matters Education has been very well received by hundreds of schools across the UK. Their tutors display a genuine passion for children’s health and well being. They undergo a rigorous training and quality assurance programme to ensure they have the necessary skills to engage everyone and importantly demonstrate that they can generate a rapport with pupils and school staff.
Showcasing ideas for the implementation of a more ‘active and creative’ Early Years Foundation Stage (England), Foundation Phase (Wales) and KS1/KS2 Curriculum Elements of the day led by a specialist ‘Health Matters’ tutor includes: Whole school assembly - led by tutor. Opportunities for school staff to observe the ‘Busy Feet’ and ‘Health Matters’ resources in action through watching/participating in whole class demonstration lessons i.e. from Nursery through to Year 6. Opportunities to engage parents in a variety of workshops. Staff meeting - discussion and a closer look at the resources. Continual Professional Development tailored to suit the individual needs of your school staff.
• • • • •
The emphasis of the day is to provide staff and pupils with an insight into the ‘Health Matters’ and ‘Busy Feet’ programmes whilst providing all those that observe with a wealth of ideas and an understanding of how the resources work in practice. Some schools have welcomed this as an opportunity to recruit parents onto many of the varied workshops on offer. Throughout the day the Health Matters tutors will outline links between curriculum subjects and areas of learning, as this can deepen children’s understanding and make learning about health and fitness a real and exciting experience. With busy feet modules costing just £70 and Health Matters £60 per box they represent an excellent value for money resource for promoting and maintaining the health of your pupils.

Classroom Medics Health, Science and Sport Workshops Classroom Medics workshops are delivered at your school and have been designed to engage pupils in the curriculum and enable them to make more informed decisions about their health, career aspirations and life choices. Their workshops cover science, health and sports aspects of the curriculum and present them in a fun and engaging manner as well as providing an insight into career opportunities.
“The activities were amazing and really fun! The workshop had all of the students interacting, even those that don't usually show any interest in Science!” Di Ralph, Science Teacher, Coppice Performing Arts School, Wolverhampton
Their patient simulator, Stan, is used in the Classroom Casualty and the Drug & Knife Awareness workshops. He is a living & breathing medical manikin with a heart beat, pulse, sweat, blink & speach. His vital signs are monitored and during the workshop, he is given a range of drugs and is stabbed (electronically). The effects of these are clearly demonstrated as Stan is pushed towards death. Only your students can save him by making the right decisions in the workshop! It is hoped the experience will help young people have the courage and knowledge to make the right decisions if faced with a situation involving drugs or knives. The Careers in Health workshop brings the health sector to your classroom, so students (and teachers!) are able to try their hand at some of the skills used in this sector and assess the many career paths available. Activities include how to take a set of medical observations, how to take blood from an injection simulator and how to move a patient using a hoist. Health & Fitness MOT is a great way for your pupils to explore how their body can be affected with poor lifestyle choices. The most popular activity is the ageing photography, where pupils can see what they will look like at the age of 72 with the effects of smoking, UV sunlight and obesity added in. Sports Hall Science is a great cross curricular workshop combining PE and Science. Pupils will be able to calculate their power output during sprinting, test their ball kicking speed, assess their reaction times with sprinters starting blocks and much more. This will allow them to compare themselves with professional athletes using the additional resources on the website. The Health Awareness Event combines three workshops in a day and is a great way for whole year groups to have a day of PSHE or enrichment activities. The workshops include Drug & Knife Awareness, Health & Fitness MOT and Hi-Definition Fitness. Costs are based on a school by school basis, but for a workshop to be run on rotation up to six times in a day, the cost is typically around £600-700 + VAT per day (excl Health Awareness Event).
