The Scholar-Baller® movement began in 1995. Founder, Dr. C. Keith Harrison, coined the term and piloted the program with Jean Boyd at Arizona State University in 2001. The University of Toledo joined the Scholar-Baller® family in October of 2007. The UT’s NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs program is proud to support this partnership under it’s “Commitment to Academics”. Scholar-Ballers® are awarded with a embroidered patch to show that they are a part of the Scholar-Baller® Program. Helmet Stickers, with the Scholar-Baller® logo, are also on the helmets of all UT ScholarBaller® football players. A Scholar-Baller® is an individual who has attained a cumulative G.P.A. of at least a 3.0 and possesses academic and athletic prowess. Qualities of a Scholar-Baller® include the willingness to accept challenges of balancing academics and athletics, the tenacity never to give up when faced with social obstacles, and a commitment to lifelong learning and intellectual development of the mind and body.
