ANTARCTIC PENINSULA Pristine, remote and filled with abundant wildlife, Antarctica is a long-held dream for many. Visit in November and December, when sea ice breaks to form icebergs, seals and penguins begin breeding and whales start to visit, setting the stage for unforgettable Zodiac and kayak excursions. During the warmer months of January and February, 24 hours of daylight provide opportunities for more landings to observe penguin hatchlings, and helicopter^ rides to see whales feeding.

WEDDELL SEA Extends far south and is under the influence of the cold Antarctic Continental climate. The borders of the Weddell Sea are formed by huge floating sheets of ice. These produce the huge tabular icebergs that are abundant in the Weddell Sea. Scientists have declared these waters to be the clearest water of any sea on Earth. The Weddell Sea is frequented by orcas, humpback, and minke whales, leopard, crabeater and Weddell seals. Also home to a large number of penguins, namely the Adélie penguins - who have a colony of more than 100,000 breeding pairs - which nest on Paulet Island. Recently a colony of emperor penguins were found nearby on Snowhill Island.

CROSSING THE ANTARCTIC CIRCLE Combining the splendor of the Antarctica Peninsula with a specific goal - to get to 66 degrees 33.7’ South. By crossing the Antarctic Circle, you will join an elite group of people who not only have been to Antarctica but have ventured into a region seldom visited.

SOUTH GEORGIA & THE FALKLAND ISLANDS With snow-capped peaks, a dense population of king penguins, an intriguing history, South Georgia is an Antarctic jewel with many stories to tell. Scenic Eclipse is the first luxury cruise ship to explore its underwater treasures by submarine^. While the Falkland Islands, with its many walking trails, and abundant wildlife is a naturalist’s paradise. March brings spectacular wildlife displays, as humpback whales breach off the coast, penguin chicks fledge, and fur seal pups and albatross chicks wander the land.

During Scenic Eclipse’s very first Antarctic voyage in 2019, we managed to get the ship down to the ice sheet near Cockburn Island, deep in the Weddell Sea. We were the first ship of the season to get so far south, and we even managed to get the ship ‘parked’ alongside the ice to allow our guests to walk on the sea ice. The absolute highlight was, of course, when several emperor penguins arrived, and proceeded to spend several hours with our guests.

Beyond the Antarctic Circle Venturing below the Antarctic Circle is about more than just earning bragging rights. It is the chance to enter a different world more rarely seen, it feels more isolated and colder than further north, with great swathes of pack ice and dreamlike icebergs. Thread through pack ice and narrow channels where scenes of ice-clad mountains, feeding whales and lively penguin colonies become lasting memories. Located at latitude 66° 33’ south, the Antarctic Circle experiences a period of 24 hours where the Sun is above the horizon during the summer solstice on 21 December. The reason for this phenomenon is that the axis of the earth is tilted by 23.5 degrees. South of the Polar Circle at Detaille Island in Crystal Sound is the farthest south that we will probably reach at latitude 66°52’ south.

Mediterranean delights

The iconic Cyclades

Long ago, these Mediterranean islands and ports were the landing places for an endless tide of invaders from far off lands. All that remains today are their stone ruins, ghostly shapes wrapped in myth and mystery. Join us as we explore a paradise on forgotten islands where white-washed sands invite sun worshippers, and fortress-like rocks where ancient monasteries cling.

The iconic Cyclades are captivating, beautiful isles with significant archaeological sites, azure waters, and precariously perched, charming seaside villages. Of the 39 islands in the archipelago, only 24 have inhabitants. Our discovery cruise visits some places largely unknown to all but local residents and discerning travelers. On guided walks, learn first-hand about contemporary life.

Fall under the spell of the Mediterranean during this 9 day cruise. Board Scenic Eclipse for an unforgettable sailing experience discovering exceptional islands, cities, atmospheric ports and villages which the larger ships cannot access. Discover timeless islands with an aura of history, unique island lifestyles and spectacular beauty, traveling a less trodden path across the Mediterranean.

From the Maltese archipelago to the Spanish coast, experience exceptional moments discovering fascinating sites. Immortalised in operas and vividly depicted in 19th century art and literature, Andalucía often acts as a synonym for Spain as a whole: a sun-dappled, fiestaloving land of guitar-wielding troubadours, feisty operatic heroines and Roma singers wailing sad laments.

Baldur Thorvaldsson, Scenic Eclipse Arctic Guide

Polar Bears, Svalbard N 77° 86’ E 20° 98’

When I think back to the most memorable days of my life, there are many, including the day I saw my first wild Polar Bear. It was June 1, 2016, around noon, in the northeast corner of Spitsbergen Island in the Svalbard archipelago and it was a mother with a cub heading west. Joining Scenic Eclipse in the Arctic will give you a chance to create your own June 1, 2016.

The Arctic region is a magical land. Here vivid colored celestial lights dance in the skies. The sun stays up above the horizon well past midnight in summer. Tales of brave Viking warriors are still shared over an evening drink. And majestic wildlife roams the land.

NORWEGIAN FJORDS

Northeast Passage

The dramatic Norwegian fjords are the remnants of millions of years of glaciation – a true nature’s work of art. Foaming waterfalls, steep precipices, rugged mountains and verdant pastures, you’ll never witness the same vista twice as your Discovery Yacht effortlessly weaves its way around the fjords like the longboats of the Vikings once did.

SVALBARD The land of the midnight sun and polar night, Svalbard is an Arctic winter wonderland with a large population of unique wildlife. Polar bears outnumber people here and Svalbard reindeer, Arctic fox, sea birds, and whales roam free, so keep your included binoculars ready at all times during your expedition voyage. Daily Scenic Discovery excursions by Zodiac, kayak and nature walks will help bring you closer to the splendid tundra landscapes, and the arctic wildlife and marine life.

GREENLAND Wilderness takes on a whole new meaning in the largest island of the world. A land of fjords and glaciers, Greenland is the perfect place for an expedition voyage on board Scenic Eclipse. The country’s unique blend of Danish and Inuit heritage has created a rich culture worth exploring with the Discovery Team. Handcrafted discovery excursions will showcase the island’s fascinating heritage and its spectacular scenery dotted with chocolate box houses.

ICELAND Fittingly known as the land of fire and ice, Iceland boasts sprawling icefields and gushing geysers in equal measure. Explore the striking landscapes filled with glaciers and volcanoes with a Discovery Team member and be immersed in the distinctive Icelandic culture. With the highest Polar Class 6 rating of any luxury vessel, Scenic Eclipse was built for safe navigation of the icy Arctic waters taking you to the heart of these otherworldly landscapes.

An Expedition to Remember Traversing from Kangerlussuaq in Greenland to Nome in Alaska, you’ll encounter wild and remote fjords, glaciers, harbors and uninhabited islands that dot the archipelago of Canada’s High Arctic. Marvel at the pristine landscapes that are worlds away from modern civilisation and revel in the chance to spot majestic Arctic wildlife through your included binoculars.
