Spring Creek Church

_______________________________ Dear Church Family, Throughout our history, Spring Creek Church has greatly impacted our community by providing a place for people to find hope and peace through a relationship with Jesus. To every person on this planet the Lord says, “Come, for everything is ready now.” The Apostle Peter taught us that God “is not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” God desires all people to come to Him and has designed the church to be the vehicle for bringing people to Himself. Therefore, WE MUST MAKE ROOM FOR THEM. The Apostle Paul told us in 2 Corinthians 5 that it was Christ’s love and sacrifice that compelled him to live whole-heartedly for Christ. May that be true of us as well, that the love of Christ motivates us at Spring Creek to live and share the gospel of Jesus – the one who died for us and rose again. Love Makes Room. Now, it’s time to love our neighbors - by making more room for more of them to come. The hope of our city is the church and we have an incredible opportunity in front of us to invest in that hope. And when you invest in that hope, you invest in people. This is not a building project; it’s a people project. The growth of Spring Creek Church is ultimately not about what we can do in our own power; it’s about God’s power and His choice to work through us. We must refuse to settle for anything less than God’s vision for our church. It is hard. It requires sacrifice. It is risky. I know the risk, but I will not run away from what I believe God is calling us to do. Since my family came to Spring Creek in 1987, the people of this church have stepped up to the challenge of God’s call for 3 previous church growth projects. He faithfully provided the needed resources to expand our facilities to effectively minister to our community. I believe we can do it again and will need every one of you to help make room. Yours for more room,

Pastor Chip Bernhard Lead Pastor

Spring Creek Church has always acted to remove barriers The church was founded in 1881 when a small group of Christians saw a barrier: English speaking people in North Milwaukee were not being reached with the Gospel. That group built a small, wooden-frame building on the corner of Second Street and Garfield Avenue in Milwaukee. The first pastor, Rev. W. J. Kermott, eloquently highlighted the action of both God and people are needed to remove barriers, in his prayer at the dedication of that first physical facility. Here is part of his prayer:

e thank our heavenly Father, who has inspired so many hearts to exercise the Christly spirit in helping to plant here a gospel W church‌ We have some appreciation of the magnitude of the work yet before us and trust that the Divine providence, which has helped us to this hour, will give us the additional workers and results needed to complete our spiritual triumphs.

As God blessed the church with growth and physical facilities became a barrier to effective ministry, the church acted to remove the barrier. In 1951, a new building, adjacent to the old one, was constructed to house the growing number of congregants. In 1964, continued growth mandated relocation to a new facility in Wauwatosa.

Launch of “Love Makes Room” expansion campaign

In 1987, William “Chip” Bernhard was installed as Senior Pastor. Under Pastor Bernhard, God blessed the church in the 1990s with continued growth. Once again, the church encountered ministry barriers due to facility limitations. Eliminating the barrier, the church relocated to its current location on 99 acres of land in Pewaukee. In October 1997, the congregation drove down Capitol Drive to open the new facility for worship and ministry. In 2001, the congregation voted to change the name to Spring Creek Church, emphasizing the new location and the church’s desire to remove the barrier of denominationalism. Also in 2001, Spring Creek completed the “Building for the Harvest” capital campaign and opened a new $4.2 million 850-seat sanctuary. In the decade following relocation to Pewaukee, Spring Creek’s attendance doubled and insufficient facilities were impacting ministry effectiveness. In 2008, the church launched the “And 1” campaign, a $6 million expansion project to support continued ministry growth. Completed in 2009, the project included expanding the sanctuary capacity to 1850 seats, a new foyer, coffee area, and an Adult Life Group wing. In 2012, the church removed the barrier of financial debt. As a result, Spring Creek has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to local and worldwide ministries that seek to meet both physical and spiritual needs. Now in 2016, our new challenge is to make room for the people the Lord continues to send us.

Current Limitations

Making Room for Adults & Staff

Love Makes Room

Our limited spaces for Children, Middle School, High School, and Adult ministries are a barrier to effective ministry. Those barriers limit the number of children, middle/high school students, individuals and families to whom we can minister. There is no more room. Our main barrier is not lack of people, but inadequate facilities – a barrier that can be removed

Our Challenge & Vision

Our Challenge

Love Makes Room prayer bands remind us of our journey

Our Vision Spring Creek Church is passionate to see more individuals, marriages, and families —

♥ Transformed by a relationship with Jesus Christ

♥ Strengthened by the power of God’s Word

♥ Sharing God’s love with our neighbors, our community, and our world

Ministry Benefits of Project This “creatively frugal” strategy reconfigures our campus for maximum ministry effectiveness, providing adequate space for children, middle/high school students, individuals, and families. The reconfigured campus will provide: • Double the capacity for Children’s ministry • Double the capacity for Middle and High School student ministries • Increased capacity for Adult Life Groups • Increased space for Spring Creek Staff • Increased parking lot capacity This plan expands our Sunday morning ministry capacity to approximately 3200 people! What Can I Do? There are two things we are asking you to do: pray fervently and give generously to the Love Makes Room project. Our goal is a $6 million investment in facility expansion and campus reconfiguration for ministry effectiveness. By trusting God and sacrificing

GOD OUR FATHER, work in us so that this preparation and building period is a time of spiritual growth in our church. GOD OUR PROVIDER, provide all the resources we need to fund the campus expansion.

together, we can make this dream a reality.

Praying for Love Makes Room

Joy in Generosity

Through prayer, determine how God would use your financial resources to support the Love Makes Room project. We also ask for your continued commitment to pray for the project, our church leaders and family, and the people whose lives will be eternally changed through the work we are doing.

The Love Makes Room project is not just about making room for more; it’s about changing your life too. Generosity can change your life. Committing in faith to give a portion of your income to the work God is doing through Spring Creek Church is not only an act of worship to Him, but also a source of joy for you and others.

GOD OF ALL WISDOM, give our designers, architects, and builders wisdom to create spaces that make room for more. GOD OUR CREATOR, fill our designers, architects and builders with creativity so that our spaces are beautiful and bring glory to You.

What can I Do?

To do:

GOD OUR SAVIOR, use this expansion project to change more lives forever in our city, state, country, and the world.

Travis and Jenny Langer Jenny and I have been attending Spring Creek church since the summer of 2005. Our children, Clayton (10) and Aubrey (7), enjoy attending “Kids Creek” every Sunday morning and coming to AWANA on Wednesday nights. We are part of a wonderful life group, and feel that we have grown spiritually because of the ministries and the many friendships we have developed here at Spring Creek. We have always felt loved and welcomed. We love the men’s and women’s ministries here and both of us serve in the Children’s ministry on Sunday morning.

Our Stories

With both of us serving in children’s ministries and our children participating in the programs, it’s clear to us why the church needs to expand its facilities to accommodate the growing number of church attendees. In order for Spring Creek to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel, this expansion is absolutely necessary. We can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for our growing church!

Joe and Ruth Arzbecker God led us to Spring Creek Church in 2006 by placing a desire in our hearts to know Him better. We have had the privilege of growing in our faith because of the ministry here. Our three daughters were blessed to be involved in Student Ministries. Now that they have grown up and moved on to college and beyond, we have a peace knowing that they are equipped with knowledge of God’s word and confident of God’s Love for them. We are excited to be a part of the building expansion to serve our youth by equipping them and loving them.

Don and Shannon MacKenzie We were drawn to Spring Creek in the spring of 2015 because of the amazing Kids Creek Program. We were searching for a church where our daughter would have the opportunity to learn about God in a safe and welcoming environment. Not only have we found that, we have found a church family and home. Our daughter absolutely loves coming to church on Sunday morning (Kids Creek) and on Wednesday evenings (Awana). We have been blessed to be a part of a supportive, spiritually educational and loving Life Group. Being that Spring Creek is a Christ centered and Bible focused church, we have grown so much in such a short time. We are excited for the opportunities that an expansion / renovation to the facility will afford more families to learn and grow in the Lord. The generosity of those who have contributed and of those who will contribute in the future is a huge blessing. We are so very thankful!
