Irmo Fire District always ready to serve

T

he Irmo Fire District is here to serve our citizens. Our doors are always open and we are ready to help our community in any way we can. As well as life safety, our mission is also to maintain the quality of life that our citizens have come to expect. The mission is met through such programs as public fire education for children and older adults, child seat safety, smoke detector installations and meeting with neighborhood associations. We have recently expanded our reach by adding programs such as a fall prevention program for older adults and installing smoke alarms for the hearing impaired. Our members are some of the finest fire service professionals in the state. The men and women of the Irmo Fire District are highly trained, motivated, well-educated and loyally focused on their core mission of service to the community. – Chief Michael Sonefeld About Irmo Fire District: The Irmo Fire District was founded in 1963. It covers an area of about 28 square miles primarily in Lexington County. The Town of Irmo is in the fire district and the boundary follows

the county line down Interstate 26 to the Saluda River. From there it follows the river to Lake Murray, follows the shoreline to the Richland County line and back to the town limits. The Northlake Station is the primary station for the north end of the district. This area includes the Town of Irmo, parts of Quail Valley, Murraywood and Coldstream, and all of the lake area. The Headquarters Station covers the rest of Quail Valley, Murraywood and Coldstream subdivisions and extends down Bush River and St. Andrews Roads to the interstate. The Town of Irmo has expanded to include areas of Broad River Road that extend to Bickley Road. Also included are properties in the Dreher Shoals/Farming Creek/Muskrat Road area. The Irmo Fire Foundation has been established to provide community fire and safety education, support organizations that serve and honor firefighters and other first responders, provide advanced training, technology and equipment upgrades.
