Looking for a reason to cycle?

© A.Scaresbrook - www.cheshirecycleway.co.uk

• Cycling is often quicker than using the car at peak times. • Cycling reduces obesity and the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. • Cycling can reduce the levels of stress, depression and improve your self-esteem. • Cycling reduces congestion and pollution. • More people walking and cycling makes our streets safer.

Congleton Cycling Campaign We are members of the Cheshire East Cycle Forum and are constantly working to improve cycling provision in Congleton. There is still a long way to go until cycling gets the level of importance it deserves in this age of sustainability. For instance we would like to see more cycle parking around town and particularly at the railway station. We would also like to see more joining up of existing facilities so that riders are not forced onto busy roads when the paths run out! Join us: our annual membership costs just £5.00. Contact us on (01260) 272 277 or by e-mail at peter@thehowty.co.uk Keep up to date with all our activities at

Welcome to this 2011 edition of the Congleton Cycle Network map. Now in its 3rd edition we hope it will help you find your way around Congleton without having to resort to a car to make what, in Congleton, cannot be more than a 3 mile journey. At rush hour it is perfectly possible to get into and across town in a much shorter time by bike than © A.Scaresbrook - www.cheshirecycleway.co.uk by car. It is also feasible to do these journeys on little used roads, through parks and dedicated cycle facilities and so avoid the heavy traffic. Take a look at these suggested routes on the map.

Bike it, you’ll like it! In conjunction with Congleton Cycling Club, Congleton Cycling Campaign and Congleton Sustainability Group run a programme of rides throughout the year to help new and returning cyclists use and enjoy the Network and so avoid having to rely on cars to get around town. The programme can be found on www.congletoncycling.co.uk or pick up a leaflet at the Tourist Information Centre, the library or the bike shops in town.

Which way next?

This map is given to all year 5 and 6 children at all the schools in Congleton to encourage them to ride to school in safety. In all our local schools the national training programme, Bikeability, has been delivered to all year 5 and 6 children and the funding for this is guaranteed for the next four years. This publication has been sponsored by Congleton Inclosure Trust, the Congleton Cycling Campaign is grateful for their support.
