NEW SCANIA K-SERIES THE SCANIA K-SERIES

Great coaches start here

NEW SCANIA K-SERIES THE SCANIA K-SERIES

A great coach is only as good as its chassis. From the wheels up, your chassis is a rolling foundation. It must be right in order for everything that’s built on it to be right. Looking in the other direction, it’s all about the interaction between the driver, the vehicle and the road. Torque, response and traction. A strong, smooth flow of power. It’s the careful balance of these properties that makes a Scania coach stand out. Outstanding fuel economy Our state-of-the-art Euro 4 and Euro 5 EEV engines combine unique high-pressure injection with Scania EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). The result is better fuel efficiency and lower emissions at all times and in all driving conditions. Our gearbox options complement these engines to help achieve truly outstanding levels of fuel efficiency, while meeting the most demanding emission regulations. Exceptional driveability Relaxed performance starts with an engine that has plenty of torque and a perfectly matched transmission. Our engines deliver up to 2,250 Nm at 1,100–1,450 r/min. You get fantastic cruising power and high average speeds over long distances. The Scania ESP stability program significantly improves safety. And when it’s time to slow down, our electronic antilock brake system (EBS) gives you strong and predictable control. Legendary reliability and uptime Scania’s engines, transmissions and chassis components are proven ingredients in our industry-leading concept of shared components for trucks, buses and coaches. Scania powertrains are renowned for their exceptional durability and impressive service life, which gives you more hours on the road and lower operating costs. Additional uptime-enhancing features include a CAN-bus based electrical system with improved functionality using less wiring and fewer components.

Instant driver appeal A driver’s area featuring logically positioned controls, and unique ergonomic features like pendant pedals that activate the correct leg muscles for safer and more comfortable driving. A pneumatically controlled and widely adjustable steering wheel that is simple to adjust and lock into position. Ergonomically designed for relaxed driving and easy access to and from the driver’s seat. High torque from low revs – Up to 2,250 Nm at 1,100–1,450 r/min for unrivalled starting power, acceleration and relaxed driving. A 12-speed gearbox perfectly harmonised with the topof-the-range 420 hp and 480 hp turbocombined engines combined with Scania Opticruise for automated gear changes. For the driver this means smoother, faster shifting, less noise and optimum fuel economy in all conditions. All this leads to more relaxed driving and better operating economy. The fuel-saving 5- or 6-speed automatic gearboxes are also available for the 270 hp to 340 hp engines. A combined Opticruise and retarder lever enables you to control both functions with the tip of one finger. World-class brake performance is now enhanced with our electronic antilock brake system. The Scania Retarder delivers 3,500 Nm of powerful braking torque to maintain constant speeds downhill. Fully integrated systems – Scania Opticruise, Scania Retarder, electronic braking system (EBS) with disc or drum brakes and ABS – all interact to secure passenger safety and raise driver satisfaction. The Scania ESP stability program significantly improves safety, by monitoring key parameters and automatically triggering appropriate controls.

You’ve talked and we’ve listened. The result is instant driver appeal – and exeptional driveability. Take a close look at the chassis. You immediately sense the quality. We’ve worked hard to make the fine details just right. A perfect driving position begins the chain of integrated ergonomics and automation. Our goal is effortless control, matchless comfort. This level of refinement takes time and insight – you know from experience how complicated this is! Knowing every tiny detail, we can combine comfort and control with a great chassis.

Award-winning engines: Where environmental compatibility meets fuel economy. Since fuel is one of your greatest operating costs, your choice of

Scania EGR – for Euro 4, Euro 5 and beyond. Just add diesel! Scania’s EGR technology features a range of unique patented solutions that slash both emissions and fuel consumption. These engines are already well received among truck customers in many countries. You’ll like the fact that you can fill up with standard diesel in the usual way without the need for additives.

Scania Euro 4 and Euro 5 EEV engines bring you:

Guaranteed compliance with Euro 4 and Euro 5 EEV

• Euro 4 seven output levels – 230 to 480 hp – cover all your needs.

engine and chassis components are primary factors in determining fuel economy. The Scania 9- and 12-litre engines are part of Scania’s industryleading platform of modular power plants. More powerful than their predecessors, these engines are renowned for their rugged reliability and low operating costs. No one matches our unique record of improving torque, fuel efficiency and driveability while reducing emissions. With Scania’s award-winning technology you get engines that fulfil Euro 4 and up-coming Euro 5 environmental requirements without any additives or exhaust aftertreatment. And you gain excellent fuel economy as part of the bargain.

Scania EGR reduces emissions in all driving conditions – from the stop-go congestion of city traffic to longdistance cruising on the open road. Scania EGR operates independently of the exhaust gas temperature to guarantee compliance with Euro 4 and Euro 5 EEV. Cuts emissions during combustion Scania EGR reduces emissions before they arise in the combustion chamber. Here’s how it works: Controlled amounts of the exhaust gases are cooled by an EGR cooler and recirculated into the engine to achieve a lower combustion temperature that reduces nitrogen oxide emissions to the required levels. Particulate matter is lowered by Scania’s high-pressure injection system. The result? Our Euro 4 solution cuts nitrogen oxides by 30 per cent and particulate matter by 80 per cent, and achieves outstanding fuel economy.

• Euro 5 and EEV two output levels – 230 and 280 hp. • High torque at low revs ensures excellent starting power and acceleration for exceptional driveability in challenging road and traffic conditions. • Compliance with Euro 4 and Euro 5 EEV at all times and in all driving conditions. • Improved fuel economy preserves the Scania hallmark of best-in-class fuel efficiency. • Dependability with a flexible maintenance programme that secures uptime and reduces whole-life costs. High availability of parts through our extensive global service network.

THE SCANIA K-SERIES

Imagine your coach: Match your chassis components to your engine and axle needs. Your wishes become our specs. With the flexibility of the Scania K-series it’s possible to build a wide variety of coach types with varying floor heights and driver positions. And every solution is characterised by the same high level of comfort, reliability, safety and operating economy. Simple, flexible bodybuilding On the Scania K-series the entire curbside is free from components, which makes it possible to integrate a toilet in the middle or rear, a rear door or additional luggage capacity. In addition, the top of the frame is entirely flat, which facilitates bodybuilding. Thanks to the rear-mounted, vertically installed engine, the luggage compartment stretches all the way between the front and rear axles and can be made both large and easily accessible.

Safe, powerful braking The Scania K-series comes with electronic antilock brakes as standard, all round. And all our engines offer powerful exhaust braking. Together with Scania’s integrated hydraulic Retarder you get a very dependable and safe braking system for all situations. The Scania Retarder boosts safety levels – in part by preventing brake fade on long downhill gradients – while simultaneously reducing wear on the wheel brakes.
