Wat Yai Dong Rang (Som Yai)

Phra Khru Wisit Kanchanakij, The abbot of Wat yai dong rang(Som yai) Wat Yai Dong Rang is located at 11 Nong Khao sub-district, Tha Muang district, Kanchanaburi province. It is an ancient temple which was built during Sukhothai kingdom. This temple was the prosperous temple since a long time ago, but it was burnt off by Burma army due to the fall of Ayutthaya kingdom which they herded a lot of people and looted many properties. However, there are some buildings and objects which still remain since then until now, such as, old ubosot, old Buddha image hall, pagoda, bell tower, old pond and so on. Nevertheless, it is unfortunate that 108

an old ubosot which made of red brick and its scale is 6 inches in width and 12 inches in length, was demolished and brought these bricks to build Wat Intharam and Ban Huai Talung School. Refer to Thai verse “The Tale of Khun Chang Khun Phaen”, Wat Yai Dong Rang (Som Yai) was mentioned in this tale which believe that this is the place where Khun Krai (Khun Phaen’s father) used to study and Khun Phaen became a novice. After that, in late 2524 B.E., Phra Ajarn Khaneung, who used to stay at Wat Mok Man Khantharam had travelled to stay at Wat Yai Dong Rang (Som Yai)
