Milkweed by: Jerry Spinelli The book Milkweed takes you back to World War 2 where all the Jews are mistreated. In this story, the main character’s name changes to many names such as Stopthief, Gypsy, Misha, Jew, Jack, and Poppynoodle. He starts out as a thief, stealing from ladies with fur coats and big houses, eventually getting taken in by Uri and a group of Jewish orphans. He then meets Janina, a Jewish girl. But Janina and her family are taken away to a ghetto where all the Jews will be locked up. The main character gets taken to the ghetto too, where he lives with Janina’s family. The main character continues to steal, trying to stay alive, but all odds are against survival. I liked this book because it was very exciting. You can barely wait to flip the page. I like historical fiction so this was a good book for me. If you like the book Someone Named Eva by John M. Wolf, you will probably enjoy this book. I think that this is better for people over 9 because there is violence and it is a challenging book but if you’re up to it, this is the book for you.
