December 26th SAFC Duck Race

SAXILBY LIBRARY We have now had a month of the new Library and what a success it is! Our visitor numbers are up, the number of books lent is up and we have even signed up some new members. Can I thank the Volunteers for the great work they have undertaken and they are now covering four sessions a week. We are still working with County and a selection of children's Christmas books have recently been brought to the Library. If there is anything particular you would like to see in the Library please let our office now and we will take this up. If you haven't visited the Library, please come and look around; it’s a great Village facility.

We have been active this year in trying to obtain more sponsorship for the Xmas Lights around the Village. I hope you like the new Lights that have gone up and agree it makes a Christmassy feel to the Village! ……………………………….…………………………………………….

We are still finalizing our Budgets for 2013/14 but again the higher Authorities are being given “sweeteners” to maintain a nil % increase. This does not come down to our level even though we face the same inflationary pressures as they do! This is making life very difficult for us to maintain the services that we have developed over the last few years! Boxing Day will also see the annual Duck Race on the canal. Again please come and support this; it Our Lights Switch-on and partly funds the annual the Annual Fireworks Dis- Dutch Visits which in 2013 play has come and gone.

means that a party will be visiting Saxilby at Easter. ……………………………….………………………………………………..

The appalling rain in late November tested the Flood Defence scheme at the end of Sykes Lane, but in the main this worked well and avoided any flooding of the houses in that part of the Village. This investment by West Lindsey District Council was much commented upon at the time but in the end was a good investment by them. ………………………………………………………………………………..

Finally our Bar & café are open through the Xmas period and Stuart and the staff look forward to seeing you during this Festive period. ………………………………………………………………………………..

Finally can I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year

……………………...……………………………………………………...

Saxilby Library If you prefer the personal touch then please come down to one of the regular sessions run by the Friends of Saxilby Library. The Library is manned for the following hours in a typical week: Monday 10am to 1pm Wednesday 10am to 1pm Friday 10am to 1pm Saturday 1pm to 3pm

New Parking Enforcement The county council is starting parking enforcement on 3 December. This is something that hasn’t been regularly enforced by the police in recent years, and motorists need to be aware that this will change. A team of 20 enforcement officers - similar to the number of traffic wardens previously will work across the county, taking a sensible approach to parking issues. They will not have to meet targets for issuing tickets. A new Parking Enforcement Procedures Manual gives motorists information about how they can park safely and with consideration for others, sticking to the parking regulations in place. Top tips include:

Check for any lines on the road, and signs nearby that will explain the restrictions

Don’t park on the grass verge or pavement – these are covered by parking restrictions

too

Don’t stay longer in parking bays than is permitted by the signs

Don’t block access to properties by parking within a dropped kerb

Do not block dropped kerbs provided to ease crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility impaired people

Don’t park more than 50cm from the kerb Queries can be directed to: parkingservices@lincolnshire.gov.uk

The library is open (but unstaffed for all other times MonSat 9am to 7pm, Sun 10am to 7pm)

or write to Parking Services, Highways and Transportation, Communities Directorate, Lincolnshire County Council, 4th Floor, City Hall, Lincoln.

Christmas Tree Sponsors We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Ford for their generosity in the use of their land and electricity for the Christmas Tree again this year, and Mrs P Norris who donated the beautiful tree. A big thank you also to all of our sponsors, as we still have money coming in we intend to thank everyone personally in the January issue of Foss Focus.

I have been getting daily e-mails recently regarding irresponsible dog owners who are not picking up after their dogs, this month we will be having a member of staff trained to become a dog warden, they will have the power to issue on-the-spot fines to offenders. Please make sure you pick up after your dog or if caught you will be fined.
