Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but at SAVE it’s been delightful! Fall and Winter holidays brought a lot of warmth and fun to the men and women at SAVE! Fall Festival Dancing, pig races, photo ops with friends, food and rides in a Humvee were just a few activities at the festival. Proceeds from the spring Rummage Sale helped offset the cost of the event. Thanks to Deb Claussen and the staff for making it happen!

Check out the Changes at Turkey Hill! As the saying goes, “a picture’s worth a thousand words...” These photos show some of the volunteers from the O’Fallon and Belleville Wards of the Church of Latter Day Saints, who came out in the RAIN and moved thousands of pounds of old files that were stored in one of the houses on Turkey Hill. Moving these boxes and cabinets was a huge help before the Keeley & Sons demolition team arrived to tear down eight of the houses that were beyond repair. Clearing them out has made Turkey Hill look much better! The Church group also painted, took out carpet and cleaned two houses, plus cleared out the flower beds in front of the offices. Then they fed everybody lunch! This was the sixth year these dedicated people have helped out at SAVE. “Thank you” just doesn’t say enough.
Consumer Spotlight By James Freeman and Consumer Correspondent Tineka Howell
Ms. Teri Howard has been a valuable member of the SAVE family for 32 years. She came to SAVE after completing her education in East St. Louis, and has worked on a variety of assembly projects in Building 301 at Turkey Hill over the years. “SAVE is a great place to work,” she replied when asked about her time here. “The people I work with are a lot of fun and my supervisor, Denise, is just SUPER.” Teri is very appreciative of the support and help she gets from her best friend, Tineka. Special Olympics helps her stay in shape as she participates in the softball throw, bowling, the 100 yard walk/run, and the SAVE relay team. Teri lives with her sister in Shiloh where she enjoys watching soap operas and the Three Stooges on TV. She is a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in East St. Louis and sings in the choir. She’s an avid sports fan and follows the Cardinals and the Rams. Her favorite foods include spaghetti, hamburgers and Chinese cuisine.
The 798th Radar Squadron held their bi-annual reunion at SAVE in September. Although most are in their 80s & 90s, the men and their wives come from all over the U.S. to spend the weekend with their comrades and play a few mean games of washers! The memorial garden was the site of the opening ceremonies.
