Back to Basics Once the dated “scrunchie” of wedding flowers, baby’s breath is making a chic comeback, according to Tara Skinner of Posh Petals and Pearls. “What we once viewed as tiny, white filler flowers have blossomed into their own,” the local event designer notes. She suggests bunching the ethereal, affordable clusters into billowy centerpieces, floral balls and wreaths.
The American Legion Ballroom MAKE IT A HISTORIC EVENT!
Non-partisan Parties The days of “yours” and “mine” are out as couples opt for an “ours” approach to ceremony seating. Skinner says more and more brides and grooms keep it casual and fun with catch phrases to incite informality, such as, “As our two families become one, we ask that you choose a seat, not a side.”
Home Slice Overstuffed sofas with plush pillows, shimmering crystal chandeliers, sepia-toned family photos—even tree swings—set an intimate and inviting scene where the just-joined can nosh and chat during cocktail hour or sit and sip after-dinner drinks. “This trend makes you feel as if the bride and groom are welcoming you into their new family,” Skinner enthuses.
Simple, sophisticated and
stunning, Savannah celebrations are more personalized than ever.

Love Lift Us Up Nicole Schwalge of Ivory & Beau suggests adding a little levity to your décor with balloons big enough to sweep you off your feet. In pastel shades of pink and pearl, oversized orbs reminiscent of cotton candy, lollipops and clouds create a sweetly playful atmosphere sure to wake up the whimsy in every guest.
Animal Instincts From gilded kittens (see page 59) and brawny bucks to sly foxes, couples are taking a walk on the wild side with their spirit animals. Schwalge sees couples forgoing the traditional bride-andgroom toppers for mascots that really take the cake.
Insta-gratification Less than a decade ago, disposable cameras were all the rage to capture candid shots during the reception, Skinner recalls. Now, smartphones make sharing those priceless, unscripted moments so much easier—without the costs and time to develop. #4everandeveramen
Say Anything You might not be able to talk to every guest at your 200-strong reception, but chalkboards—from small slates framed in silver leaf to repurposed window panes—offer an old-school opportunity to share the spirit and specifics of your event. “Listing your bridal party on the chalkboard rather than in a program is a unique touch that guests are sure to remember,” Skinner adds.
