INSPIRATION / FLOORPLAN / SKETCHES / CONCEPT STATEMENT

The Julep Hotel, located in the Arts District of New Orleans, will reflect the old South and local plantations of the

1800s. The Julep Hotel will be so called after the classic Southern cocktail, Mint Julep. Keeping with the Southern theme, the hotel will have a cozy, welcoming atmosphere by keeping the dĂŠcor light and airy while maintaining several of the original features of the turn of the century warehouse. The classic reclaimed wood floors and brick will be incorporated with vintage inspired furniture and a dusty blue and mustard yellow color palette. 6

Wayfinding plays an important role

in ensuring that guests feel independent, safe, and comfortable during their stay at The Julep Hotel. An asymmetrical floorplan, landmarks, as well as a combination of restricted, directional, informational, and identification signage will help guests find their way around. The signage throughout the hotel will have a blue and mustard yellow color scheme, which will tie in with the finishes and materials that will be specified for the hotel.

G1: COLLABORATIVE In order to create a collaborative work environment, team desks will include benching systems. Interactive work islands will also be distributed throughout the office to allow ample space for quick team project meetings. G2: FLEXIBLE The office design will provide a flexible atmosphere by including several touch down spaces that will allow employees to work away from their desks when needed. There will also be quiet rooms to allow for alone time or a quiet environment for meetings or collaboration between two or three people. G3: INDUSTRIAL AESTHETIC The overall design of the office space will have an industrial aesthetic by using reclaimed wood and glass as the two main project materials. Dark, muted color fabrics and paint will also be used as opposed to bright, neon colors to keep with the theme. G4: HEALTHY WELL standards will be incorporated into the design to create a healthy work environment. Ample daylighting views, fitness, and mental well-being are a few of the main concerns for the project.

NORD DE GALLERY PROJECT TYPE: Individual SQUARE FOOTAGE: 5,200 LENGTH OF PROJECT: 16 Weeks SEMESTER: Senior Year - Fall Semester PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES: Research, Branding, Revit Drawings, Color Renderings, Digital Presentation Boards PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Design a space in a turn of the century, threestory building in upstate New York that will house an avant garde art gallery on the first two floors and a private apartment on the third floor.

42

LOGO / CONCEPT STATEMENT / 3D VIEWS / FIRST STORY FLOORPLANS

Emma and Andrew’s recent building purchase in the up and coming Rust Belt area of upstate New York will be transformed into an avant garde art gallery on the first two floors and a private apartment on the third floor. Nord de Gallery is a French phrase meaning “upstate gallery”, which is not only where the building is located, but also embodies the French influence of the avant garde art that will be displayed there. My design strategy will be inspired by the art deco style through use of color palette, motifs, and furniture styles of the era. Since the gallery should be kept simple in design as to not distract from the artwork, the first two floors will be minimal, while the third floor will be more expressive by incorporating bold colors and materials. There will be moveable walls and pedestals throughout the space to provide displays, as well as flexibility to transform the gallery into an event space. Since sustainability is essential to the clients, green design materials will be incorporated into the design of all three stories. The entire building will also be designed with universal, barrier-free components in mind.

13 SUESS LANDING PROJECT TYPE: Individual SQUARE FOOTAGE: 90 LENGTH OF PROJECT: 3 Weeks SEMESTER: Junior Year - Fall Semester PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES: Research, Preliminary Sketches, SketchUp Drawings, Color Renderings, Digital Presentation Board PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Design a unique playhouse no larger than 100 square feet, keeping safety and anthropometrics in mind.

70

CONCEPT STATEMENT / 3D VIEWS /FLOORPLAN / DIGITAL BOARD / ELEVATIONS

The Johnson’s have asked me to design a

playhouse for their six-year-old twins, Max and Maggie. They want the playhouse to be safe for the kids now, as well as continue to meet their needs for safety and functionality as they get older. It is very importat to them that the playhouse be completely portable, including any outdoor accessories. The Johnson’s also want to stay away from generic playhouse designs and have a finished product that is one of a kind and unique for their kids.

To meet safety and functionality requirements,

certain anthropometric dimensions will need to be kept in mind. The indoor and outdoor furniture will be at an average sitting chair height of 11.5 inches as to accommodate children ages 4-10. The outdoor accessories will be made of a material that stays cool in the sun as to avoid children being scorched by a hot surface.

To ensure that the playhouse is portable, its size

should be no larger than 8’ x 12’. Accessories, such as the sandbox and swing set, should be easily transported as well. The structure of the playhouse, as well as the materials used for all accessories will be lightweight to help with ease of transportation. As far as the aesthetic of the playhouse, it will have a one-of-a kind Dr. Suess design.
