SLV Growth Surpasses Major Milestone Savannah Lakes Village crossed a major milestone this summer as the one-thousandth single-family home began construction at 116 Hamilton Lane in the Monticello Neighborhood. Lee Builders Inc., a builder who has been active in Savannah Lakes Village for 16 years, presented the plans to the Architectural Control Committee and began construction on the spec home in July. The Montgomery Homeplan (pictured below) was listed for $279,000, which included home construction, lot, and landscaping package. On September 17, Village Real Estate informed us that Gary and Micki Shafer are in the process of buying the “milestone home”, with plans to begin living in Savannah Lakes Village by the end of the year. The Shafers are from Vienna, VA, where they both served and worked in the armed forces. The home start, along with other recent home starts, raises the total number of single family homes to 1,002. With 39 town homes, the community now has a total of 1,041 dwellings.

The Village’s new logo reflects the values that we as a community place on the parks, forest, waterways, and wildlife that make up the remarkable natural environments that surround us.

Savannah Lakes Village Branding Initiative to Bolster Unique Destination and Natural Environment the sweet spott for Village where f SSavannahh LLakes k Vill h market trends meet our community's authentic strengths and create a very visible point of difference for couples that are trying to decide between 5,000 + golf course communities across the South.

Savannah Lakes Village hasn’t changed, yet the community is all new. That’s because we have been working hard to carefully craft a new identity, in essence, reinventing the way that we adapt and talk about our 23 year old community in the face of rapidly changing recreational lifestyle interests of today’s and tomorrow’s buyers.

Another notable addition to the community’s brand mark is the phrase “Lake Thurmond - SC.” A stronger connection with the lake and South Carolina within the brand mark is very strategic. Lake living now ranks closely with coastal living as a preferred destination, while North and South Carolina are now the top two most preferred states for inmigration for families seeking recreational/retirement communities. The connection with South Carolina also supports the ongoing relationship we have with South Carolina Tourism and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.

The first change that is noticed is a departure from the dated “golf crest” style of the old logo. With thousands of golf course communities across the southeast from which to choose, Savannah Lakes Village’s opportunity is to appeal to the couple who values the lake and the surrounding public parks and forest land as much as they value the golf courses, recreation center, tennis complex, and other amenities.

The rebranding project was identified and budgeted as a part of the 2012 marketing plan, which was prepared in 2011 and presented earlier this year. The need for rebranding was also documented in the recent strategic plan. We have been working on the rebranding process for over a year now. With a very strong and favorable community response to the proposed branding report presented and distributed in August, we are moving forward with advertising copy, printed promotional materials, new website development, and new signage programs. New postcards and vehicle window decals are now available at the Savannah Lakes Village facilities. Additional merchandise will be available soon.

This is not much unlike the true buying motivations of our community’s existing residents and property owners. Previous surveys of the membership have identified the lake and the natural environment as being the key decision factors for buying in Savannah Lakes Village, versus other communities that offer similar facilities and amenities as SLV. Most importantly from a community growth perspective, these are the same criteria that are consistently identified in market research surveys regarding the purchase motivators of today's and tomorrow's buyers (particularly the boomer segment that is now between 48 – 66 years old). Board News & Events Upcoming Meetings TOWN HALL MEETING October 3 at 6 p.m. - Recreation Center Topic: Tara Clubhouse Renovation Process

TOWN HALL MEETING October 16 at 6 p.m. - Recreation Center Topic: Marketing

OCTOBER BOARD MEETING October 17 at 9 a.m. - Recreation Center

2013 BUDGET PRESENTATION November 1 at 6 p.m. - Recreation Center

Town Hall Meetings Set For Tara Renovation Process Earlier this year, the Board in cooperation with the Food Services Committee authorized the creation of an ADHOC Committee to determine the need, cost and value of upgrading dining facilities. The members of the ADHOC Committee include a cross section of our community including representatives from the Board, the Finance, Golf, Strategic Planning and Food Services Committees, as well as David Twiggs, COO; Larry Dinkins, CFO, Jerry Kent, F&B Director, and, also two "at large" members, Lou Reste and Ken Bastow. The committee has met many times over the past few months to first of all identify all the issues and challenges that need to be addressed to support the community's dining requirements and increase member utilization, while all the time keeping in mind that any changes recommended for our facilities, particularly at Tara, need to accommodate all types of functions and activities from upscale events to casual dining. Equally important is the fact that our community needs a facility that will be appealing to, and, attract prospective buyers to support the growth of our community.

NOVEMBER BOARD MEETING November 14 at 9 a.m. - Recreation Center

The Committee has developed a preliminary plan to address the above issues and set two townhall meetings to present the plan. The first meeting was held on September 12, 2012, and was attended by 150 members.

November 15 at 6 p.m. - Recreation Center

The second meeting will take place on October 3, 2012 at 6 p.m. at the Recreation Center.

The McCormick Garden Club is pleased to honor the Savannah Point entrance of Savannah Lake Village as the 2012 September Garden of the Month. While it has always been an attractive entrance, about five years ago the residents with Josh Sandt as the lead began intensively managing the flora in public areas. The Savannah Point volunteers have workdays as needed. They have planted over 10,000 daffodil bulbs and continue to add another 2,000 each year, thus making a trip around the one way street in the spring an absolute must! Next time you are on Huguenot Parkway, slow down and enjoy the beauty of this entrance. If you have time, drive Bereau Drive and you will see lovely garden vignettes the full length of the street.

Dailey & Vincent to Open for GLPA Season If you're a bluegrass music fan, you'll want to be at Lander University on Monday evening, October 8, when Greenwood Lander Performing Arts opens its 66th season with Dailey & Vincent, who music critics have described as "the hottest band in bluegrass." They've been named the International Bluegrass Music Association's entertainers of the year and vocal group of the year three years in a row. In 2011, they took home seven Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association awards. Tickets for Dailey & Vincent are $30 for adults and $25 for young people under 18 and may be purchased by calling the GLPA office at 864-388-8326. When you call, ask about season passes for all five shows in GLPA's outstanding 2012-2013 season.

Corps Signs Coop Agreement for Campground Operations

Dinner with O'Keefe

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Savannah District has signed a cooperative agreement with Outdoor Recreation and Outreach Inc. (OR&O) for the daily operations of five campgrounds on Lake Thurmond. The agreement, signed July 25, will go into effect on Oct. 1 at the following campgrounds: Modoc, Petersburg, Raysville, Ridge Road, and Winfield. The Corps anticipates that campers will not experience any significant changes in facilities and services; however, the new agreement will change the way camping fees are spent. "Our park visitors will see very little difference in the way our parks are operated," said Scott Hyatt, Corps Operations Project Manager for the J. Strom Thurmond Project. "Instead of camping revenues going to the U.S. Treasury, this new agreement will allow fees collected at a campground to be re-invested in that particular campground."

Friday, September 21 the McCormick Arts Council (MACK) is holding their next dining event under the stars on the veranda of the MACK. Dinner with O'Keefe will consist of an excellent three course meal. You will have the opportunity to visit with O'Keefe herself during the evening. After dinner, over dessert and coffee, you will be entertained with a brief lecture about Georgia O'Keefe. This is a very popular event that the MACK enjoys providing for you. Tickets are available at the MACK at a cost of $25 for members and $30 members for non-members. For more information/tickets, call 864-852-3216.
