About the Sabari Express

This is one of the most popular and well-travelled trains of South India. It is a daily express train that is used by a lot of people when travelling from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram. The name of this train has a rather interesting history- there is a very popular and well frequented pilgrimage site for the Hindus in the Periyar Tiger Reserve. It is after this popular pilgrimage that this train has been named Sabari.


Recent developments The Indian Railways is always in the process of upgrading its trains. Thus some adjustments in the route of the Sabari Express have also been made in the last few years. Earlier this train only ran from Hyderabad to Ernakulam. However due to the rising demand and to make it more convenient for the passengers who frequently use this train, the last stop has been extended to Trivandrum Central. This extension of route took place on the 27th of March in 2005.


Stops along the way

The Sabari Express makes a lot of important stops along the way. The total number of stops is 41. Some of the more important stops are Varkala, Aluva, Mavelikara, Kottayam, Kollam, Palakkad Junction, Salem, Jolarpettai, Coimbatore and others. You can board the train at any one the stops that you wish. The standard stopping time at each station is about 2-3 minutes.


Total time taken and distance covered

This train covers a whopping distance of about 1568kms and hence the time taken to travel is more than 24 hours. The time taken to travel by this train is about 30 hours and 25 mins, but there might be delays.


Scheduled departure and arrival

The Sabari Express is scheduled to leave Trivandrum at 7.15 AM and is supposed to reach Hyderabad, the following day at around 1.40 PM.
