Understand Your Strengths for Maximum Success Granted, those around you probably have expectations of what you should do, work or become, even as an adult. These expectations can sometimes be overwhelming. Finding a balance between the external world around you and what you really want to achieve can be difficult, but it is possible. Here you’ll find the tools needed to really understand yourself, and thus your strengths and talents, to live your most fulfilling life on all levels. Understanding your strengths is essential to your professional and personal happiness. Simply put, it’s much easier doing something you enjoy which comes naturally as opposed to doing something you struggle with at every stage. When you’re doing something you’re good at, you’re generally being more creative and productive. If you’re not really sure how to figure out what your strengths are, it’s time to rally those around you for help. Recruit trusted colleagues and friends for their honest critique. Ask them to write down, honestly, what they perceive are your strengths and talents. Generally, it’s not as easy figuring out your personal strengths on your own and this is where such an exercise can help.

Figure Out Your Strengths  Ask for honest critiques from those who know you best, such as trust colleagues. This will help you determine your strengths.  Make sure the individuals asked know that you are seeking an honest critique, in order to work on selfimprovement. You’re not looking for empty compliments.  Once you’ve compiled a list of your strengths, here’s what to do „.

What Happens After You Know What Your Strengths Are? Here are a few tips to implement after you’ve received feedback from your colleagues: Getting honest feedback is only the first step in understanding where your strengths lay. Once you’ve received the information back from those you asked, it’s time to group the information together. Do you see any overlapping strengths? This is important because you may actually stumble across something that you really didn’t think you possessed as a strength. Remember, this process is all about self-realization and understanding what you can do best. Once you have your key strengths, summarize your findings in a few paragraphs. Write about whether your expectations matched your results. Were there any interesting finds throughout your analyses? Writing this all down is essential for two reasons: it will help guide your future decisions and during times of self-doubt, it will help give you reassurance. Once you’re really clear on what your strengths are, it’s time to reassess your current situation. Are you really working to these strengths? Can you change around a few things were you’re able to spend more time working with projects that involve your strengths? You’d be surprised how flexible management can be, if it means you’re more likely to produce better results. There is a difference between being great, and just being competent at what you do. The distinction between the two is

usually a matter of whether you’re doing what you enjoy and feel strong doing, as opposed to begrudgingly getting the job done.

Key Points

Using Goals to Fulfill Personal Happiness in Work and Life

 Once you’ve received your feedback, sit down and revise.

While many people associate setting goals to career happiness, being able to successful set and implement achieving your goals can help you move forward in many aspects of your life. Here you’ll find out the best way to figure out how to set goals, and more importantly, how to achieve these goals.

 Write down your observations.

Assess your attitude. You’d be surprised where you could go by simply adjusting your attitude. Of course, you can’t achieve a goal with wishful thinking alone, however, a positive attitude will take you places you can never go with a negative state of mind. Take the time to really understand what you’re saying to yourself. Is this what’s been holding you back? Let go of the short term. It’s very easy to get absorbed with what’s happening in your life now, but this is fleeting. If you don’t have a vision for your life, where you want to be professionally or personally 3 or 5 years from now, you’re not setting a clear path for yourself.

 What obvious strengths did you already know you had? Which strengths were not so apparent to you?  Once you’ve grouped the particular themes together, assess your current situation.  Are you working with your strengths or not?  What can you do to maximize your work situation to use more of your strengths? This will lead to higher levels of creativity, productivity and happiness.  Your new found knowledge will help guide your current situation, and any future decisions you make pertaining to your career or personal life.  Implementing goals will help provide an outline for using your strengths and achieving your important goals.  Attitude is a major influential factor in whether or not you achieve success.  Keeping the long term in mind will help you overcome minor obstacles.  Push through the obstacles and you’ll definitely reach your goals.

Keep your body and mind healthy

Keep your family in mind

If you plan on enjoying your life to the fullest, this means you have to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. If you’re an active person, you’ve probably noticed that you’re more likely to be in a better mood than you’re inactive counterpart. Staying active will help keep you motivated and moving forward.

Pursuing your personal goals can often take you away from your family. Are you on track with the things you want to do with your own family? If not, plan some extra time with them, perhaps a vacation or a special family weekend? Keeping your family in mind will help you maintain a balance of personal and career enhancement.

Personal finance While money isn’t everything, it’s definitely needed to enjoy some aspects of life. Do you have a savings plan in place? Is your emergency fund well set? Are you earning as much as you would like? If not, how are you going to improve your income? These are all things to keep in mind when you’re thinking about your personal finances. While your income is directly tied with your career, it also impacts how you spend your personal time.

Make time for yourself Doing things that make you happy are essential to your overall success. Taking time to get together with friends, or pursue a favorite hobby will help release stress and sharpen your focus when it’s time to get back to work.

 Omit negative influences from your life, this includes your own negative thinking  Check on the progress you’re making and give yourself credit for all the work you’re doing  Get more done by focusing on one task at a time, this will help reduce feelings of stress  Sometimes you may feel like you’ve hit a dead end, in this case, don’t be afraid of seeking help  Consistency is critical to your success  Be prepared to hit a few road bumps along the way; get over them and move on.

A Powerful New “You” “Insist on yourself. Never imitate.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson Finding yourself, your strengths and sharpening your talents will take a lot of hard work. However, if you’re willing to put in the work and learn at every step of the way, it is only a matter of time until you reach (or exceed) your goals. Keep in mind that achieving your goals is much more than just words. If you truly are intent on realizing your dreams, you have to take action. Without critical action steps, your dreams will remain part of your imagination. Every single step you take regardless of how small you may think it is one step closer to realizing your goal. Achieving success is as simple as making a decision to become successful. If you are committed, get ready to succeed. The Most Powerful “you” is waiting at the end of all the hard work.
