BLACK TIE BINGO CHAIR

On behalf of the Black Tie Bingo committee, I want to thank everyone who made Black Tie Bingo 2018 a success.

Each year Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation, through the Black Tie Bingo committee, strives to provide you with an exciting evening of glamour, glitz, and loads of fun. Work for the Bingo begins in September. Each of the Black Tie Bingo committee members goes above and beyond to make this a unique and fantastic evening of fundraising to further the cause of Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation and its stakeholders.

A heartfelt thank you to all who sponsored the event, donated auction and bingo prize items, and bought tickets. It was so great to see more than 430 people having a fantastic time. The event is only as good as those who support it and Black Tie Bingo is a great event!

We’re happy to announce that $141,000 was raised for Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. Thank you! To find out more about how it helps, read the article later in this section.

If you want to stay in touch with Black Tie Bingo through the year, follow us on Facebook. Or email SCHF@saskhealthauthority.ca and ask to be put on the mailing list.

FOUNDATION CEO

Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2018 Black Tie Bingo another success. Thanks to the 430 attendees who dabbed, bid, bought, and had a great time. Thanks also to the stellar organizing committee, numerous volunteers, the Sheraton Cavalier, and all our sponsors.

I especially want to thank long-time title sponsor, Wyant Group, who’ve been with Black Tie Bingo since it began more than 20 years ago. Their support, through the donation of luxury vehicle leases, makes Black Tie Bingo the highlight of the social season. I’m also grateful for our Diamond Sponsors, S.O. Asher and Nutrien.

Finally, I’m pleased to note that Black Tie Bingo raised an amazing $141,000. Wow!

This year, your support will create a caring community in the hospital’s Transitional Care Unit. The 30-bed unit serves people who no longer need acute care but are waiting for a permanent home in the community that meets their needs. Your contributions at Black Tie Bingo will fund new equipment and a major upgrade, creating a space where residents can dine, learn and be entertained with the company of others. You’re giving residents a community.

If you’d like to know more about the Foundation and its work, visit us at SCHFgo.com or SCHFequip.com. If you’d like to support us more, go to SCHFdonate.com.

o g n i B CREATING A COMMUNITY Transitional Care Unit needs upgrade The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) provides care on an interim basis to people who’ve had but no longer need acute care. They’re unable to be home on their own and are waiting for a permanent home that meets their needs. TCU accommodates up to 30 residents. Time spent there depends on vacancies in the city and residents themselves. Some can be in TCU for one day; some for more than a year. Your participation in Black Tie Bingo supports a vital upgrade. The project includes a capital renovation, new furnishings and décor, and addressing equipment needs. SCHFdonate.com

CREATING A FRIENDLY DECOR The Transitional Care Unit is locked and entry coded for the safety of residents but locked doors can create unfriendly barriers and a feeling of being trapped. Murals on entryways would alleviate this while giving the unit a welcoming look. This would be complemented by framed artwork, including pieces created by the residents themselves.

CREATING A DINING SPACE UPDATED EQUIPMENT

In addition to creating a better environment, the unit needs a major equipment overhaul. Beds in use since the 1980s will be upgraded with ones that meet current standards. For residents confined to bed for long periods, specialized beds and mattresses that prevent sores or skin breakdown are required. Also needed are bariatric beds, patient lifts, high-back wheelchairs, medication crushers and a shower chair.

Removing a wall will create a larger space with accessible tables for wheelchairs and versatile chairs that can be stored or used easily. This will be an engaging, comfortable space where residents can dine and socialize. The space would serve as a TV room, an activity and recreation room, and a place for entertainment. It also can be a relaxing environment for quiet time.
