Aufgrund ihres politischen Engagements musste Yasmine Merei 2012 aus Syrien fliehen. 2015 war sie als Feuchtwanger Fellow in der Künstlerresidenz »Villa Aurora« in Los Angeles, wo sie Sasha Waltz kennenlernte. Im Januar 2016 kam sie für »ZUHÖREN: Continu und Gespräche« nach Berlin und ist seitdem Mitarbeiterin bei Sasha Waltz & Guests. Diese Zusammenarbeit wird vom Residenzprogramm »Artists at Risk« der Allianz Kulturstiftung unterstützt. Sie war Stipendiatin des »Young Leader Visitors Programme 2016« des Swedish Institute Stockholm. Seit 2017 baut sie die Berliner Initiative »Women for Common Spaces« auf, die dieses Jahr bei ZUHÖREN vorgestellt wird. Yasmine Merei was born in Homs, Syria in 1984. She is a journalist, linguist and human rights activist. From 2013 to 2017, she was the managing editor of »Saiedet Souria (Lady of Syria)«, the first women’s (rights) magazine in Syria, which was awarded the 2017 Göttinger Friedenspreis (Göttingen Peace Prize). Because of her political engagement, Merei was forced to flee Syria in 2012.
