Reinhard Straumann, who had made important aerodynamic researches in the field of ski-jumping. Apart from these qualifications he had the well-known Straumann Institute at Waldenburg at his command, which was, amongst many other activities, also engaged in chronometry. These facts satisfied my expectations completely, as it was not my intention to make the test a sheer sensation. I described it as being an open-air study of the aerodynamics of downhill skiing, equipment and electronic timekeeping and named it Kilometre land on skis, under which tide it is still known, although the FIS has since rechristened the discipline Speed Skiing. The French have made the best of two worlds by combining both designations and calling the test Ski de vitesse KL and turning KL inta an attractive design.
