The annual fest at Miranda House College saw a series of high energy performances by enthusiastic students

T yehdillihai!

he fest of Miranda House College, Tempest 2012, was an out-an-out fun affair. Day one — Qayamat — saw Hansraj College bagging two awards, one for the Best Play and the other for the Best Actor, for The Final Act – the stage play. The day ended with DJ Sumit Sethi entertaining the crowds with some funky tunes. Day two of the fest, The Resurrection, featured events like Dhol Pitara (the street play competition), Sira (the Indian dance event) and The Last Step (the Western dance contest). While Shivaji College emerged trumps in Dhol Pitara, the first place in the The Last Step went to Maitreyi College. Sira saw Neha Purohit of KNC and Akanksha Chauhan of Miranda being declared winners in the solo acts, while Miranda stood first in the folk dance category.

Many accidents were thwarted in Delhi when the meaningful and beneficial ban on the use of cell phones, while driving, was enforced by the transport authorities. The number of violators came down drastically ever since the rule came into force. Meanwhile, the city now has another menace. Pedestrians nowadays use their cell phones leisurely, oblivious of the surroundings and traffic threats. It is a common sight, particularly in the Capital. It is needless to point out that many lives have already been lost by virtue of these acts. It

is high time for the authorities to shed a lackadaisical approach and devise means and methods such as launching awareness programmes, in order to mitigate this problem. For the safe movement of the pedestrians, the authorities need to ensure that pavements are not encroached upon and also create more infrastructure such as footpath, over bridges, subways, etc. The fellow citizens also need to be more responsible and exercise restraint and display more caution in using cell phones while walking on the traffic-loaded roads of the city.
