“Building relationships with clients rewards both the nursing staff and the client. In client one-on-one visits, we build trust and we can educate women in healthy habits for themselves and their unborn baby,” shares SMPC Nurse Manager Elaine McFarland, RN, BSN.

“The Center’s supporters thank us for doing what we do for women in fragile situations—but really, it's we, SMPC's medical & care teams—who give thanks for our donors. We love what we do and the donors love what we do and together, we provide excellent care for vulnerable women and babies.

In most clinics it's unusual to have time during intake visits to talk to patients—it can be more like herding patients rather than tending to them,” shares Elaine. “I love having time for medical care and education.”

“About 20% of clients are happy to be expecting and 80% are abortion fragile. The nurses welcome clients into an intake visit where her pregnancy status and her own health can be assessed. SMPC provides wrap-around care—most clients need behavioral health and social service navigation support, not just medical care. We work as a team—medical, behavioral health, and social services navigation—to ensure care is offered onsite to willing clients.”

Closing Our Community's Prenatal Care Gap

“SMPC aligns with other prenatal service sources across the area to close the healthcare gap. There’s a shortage of OB-GYN providers and within that shortage, there are barriers like health insurance, Medicaid, or non-acceptance of new clients,” Elaine says.

“SMPC’s cost-free prenatal care welcomes every woman seeking pregnancy care by providing risk assessment with exams, testing, labs, and ultrasounds. Imagine being an abortion-fragile woman and struggling to be examined by a medical provider.

What are your options? What are the pressures?

SMPC closes gaps by offering a journey accompanied by compassion and judgment-free care. She needs to know about her own health as well as the health of her developing baby. The Center takes care of her and gently moves her through a process towards a healthy pregnancy and delivery. It all begins with the nurse consultation in the initial intake visit. From there, viability and risk assessment informs what the process will look like and the client is invited to receive care for herself and her unborn baby," shares Elaine.

“If supporters ask ‘What can I pray for?’ I tell them we sometimes work through deeply emotional losses with our clients who suffer miscarriages or decide, even after our offers to help, to abort their babies. As first responders we feel and grieve their losses. Pray for us—for our strength and wisdom to be who we are called to be for God and for women and their babies.”

From Jennifer Carey, CEO

SARASOTA MEDICAL PREGNANCY CENTER

Hello, friends & generous supporters,

This issue brings you insight into the workings of SMPC's medical, behavioral health, and social services navigation care team. These are the professionals serving on the front lines for life. Each team member invests love, compassion, and skillfulness into each client’s life. When a woman walks into the Center, she is unconditionally welcomed and cared for with expert and professional skillfulness.

Many clients enter SMPC’s doors abortion fragile. The medical and care team understands. They gently come alongside clients to assess health and pregnancy status. Generous people such as you underwrite the tools needed to protect tiny lives and their mothers.

Because of abundant donor support, SMPC's medical and care teams have been able to close the fragile prenatal care gap during our community's critical provider shortage.

To inspire your end-of-summer gift, several supporters have pledged to match your donation up to a cumulative total of $30,000 for gifts made by October 15, 2025. The match will be automatically applied, doubling your gift's value.

Thank you for making your gift to Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center today.

The prenatal care provisions underwritten by SMPC donors provide wrap-around holistic care for mother and developing baby. The struggles and obstacles mother and baby face—provider shortages, medical insurance coverage, Medicaid access, among other emotional pressures—can provoke a response to abort a baby. Over the 23+ years Sarasota Medical Pregnancy Center has been providing cost-free medical care with testing, labs, exams, and ultrasounds, and now with behavioral health and social service navigation, saving thousands of tiny lives. The mothers who carried these precious lives are always thankful they did not choose abortion.

Martha & baby Padme

“I appreciate the SMPC supporters because the Center provided help for me and my baby. I met new people and their babies, I took motherhood & baby classes, and I learned what to expect during my pregnancy and Padme’s birth. I’m thankful SMPC welcomed me,” Martha, client and baby Padme’s mom.

“I did not believe abortion was right. How can anyone get rid of a baby? It's heartbreaking to even think about.”
