Project Ehsaas from TISS (Sept 2006) - Fund generation for Alchohol Deaddiction. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. To listen to resource person from TISS about the magnitude of Alchoholism as a social problem. 2. To learn that it is a disease and as children they have very effective role to play to help any family member suffering from alchoholism to overcome it successfully.3. To generate fund through donation drive to support a rehabilitation center run by Project Ehsaas.

Project Snehankit ( Oct 2006) - an event with a message of ' Blinds can lead a normal life' initiated by Podar School. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. To participate as an audience in two hours workshop run by four Blind volunteer through NGOnamed Snehankit. 2.To observe how a blind child studying in grade VII can read a history text book written in Brail script. 3. To observe how the special slate works as a calculator for a blind students who learns maths. 4. To observe how a blind student of their age also writes on a special type of notebook that is available. 5. To observe on computer, how any blind person can do research, write mails, read mails and function normal just like any sighted person through software called JAWS.

Writing papers for Visualy challenged child of Podar S.S.C. School though

Snehankit (March 2006)- supported Krishna to write his final exam papers. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.Take time table of Krishnas Exam. 2. Divide among IBDP students as to who will write which paper. 3. Execute the plan. 4. Bandhilki (March 2007 OR 8?)- Podar Education Complex adopted 1000 Tribal Girls from Karjat for one year Educational Support. Activity initiated by Podarites. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Understand the magnitude of a Girl Child Education as a social issue from CAS Coordinator in PYP classes. 2. IBDP students conducted further class room campaigns in school.3. A donation drive was conducted, extended to podar parent community through children 4.Rs. 500 were collected as a educational expense to make it possible for one girl child to attend school. 5.200 Tribal Girls were supported with their educational expense in academic year----------. 5. 26 th July Flood (August 2005) 窶的BDP Nov 2006 Batch of students generated financial as well as material help for 200 students and their families from Podar aided section, after 26th July floods. Activity initiated by Podarites. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.Design project campaign and execute the same. 2.Spoke directly to parents on occasion of open day.3. Conducted classroom campaigns to talk to younger classes. 4.Collected Utensils and Fund needed to support flood affected. More on :- FLOODHIT MUMBAI 26TH JULY,2005 (Aug 2005) Our students were sensitized to the sufferings of Mumbaikars who were completely devastated by the floods of 26th July, 2005. They rallied around quickly to collect food grains, books, utensils, rugs and clothes to give a fresh start to many of the affected students from the Podar aided section. PROJECTRAHAT was born out of this student initiative.

Vatsalya Foundation (Feb 2006) – A student led CAS activity for street children. Our student Sagorika Sen volunteered to teach a Bengali Folk Dance to street children from Vatsalya, an NGO, which works with street children. It was a student initiative, wherein for a whole month, she choreographed the dance show and rehearsed with them to make the show a success.

Blood Donation (----- 2006) - IBDP students first batch conducted Blood Donation at BDD Chawls of worli . The donation camp was conducted along with Hinduja Hospital. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Identify a hospital who will conduct blood donation camp. 2.Do corrospondence with them. 3.Identify a venue at BDD where the Blood Donation take place. 4.On Blood Donation Day appeal to residents at BDDChawl and take them to venue. 10. C- Kids (August 2006) – IBDP Nov 2007 batch students conductd sale of greeting cards made by cancer affected chilldren from NGOcalled C- Kids. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Sale the cards to parents on Podar first term IGCSEOpen Day. 2. Listen to Onchologissts tem which was invited to school on the issue of Thalasemia Major. 3. Keep account of sale, create report and submit all money to NGO.Ms. Gulu Gadekar was a contact person. 11. PYP3 - 7 all visited Vimala Dermatological Center for the first time. 12. Diwali Party at Assisi Bhavan ( Oct 2007 ) - Assissi Bhavan is an old Age home

located at Goregaon. Project initiated by IBDP Nov 2008 Batch students. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.PYPchildren provided Rangolis, fire crackers, Diwali sweets and indoor games accessories to IBDP children to make Diwali Party of Senior citizens of ASSISSI BHAVAN OLD AGEHOME – a successful CASevent.2. IBDP students informed entire school about the project first through classroom campaign. 3.Undertook class room collection of groceries, their packing and transport to assissi bhavan.4.Planned excercises, games and songs for the occasion.5.Executedthe plan, 5. Disributed sweets and groceries. 13. Vimala Dermatological Center (Jan 2007) - Vimala Dermentological Center is a hospital cum home for those who are affected by Leprosy, T.B., HIV AIDS etc. It is also a home


for children of these patients. Podar …working with VDC since Jan 2007. Tasks undertaken by students in this academic year were 1. PYP 3,4,5,6,and 7 all classes went to pay visit to VDC. They listened to the speech of Dr. Narayan. Took campus round. Interacted with in-mates 2.IBDP Nov 2007 batch Students spent time with them at five occassions. They distributed Tshirts, conducted entertaining programmes for the in mates etc. Played outdoor games with the children. Played Antakshari with patients. Did crft work activities with them. 14. HIV AIDS Awareness Rally ( 1 st Dec 2006 ) –Project initiated by Youth Organisation for Unity called as YOU. IBDP and A Level Stuents from both the years participated in this programme. One k.m. distance around the Podar Education Complex was covered in this. Pamphlets, caps and other communication material was ditributed. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Walk wearing a cap with message.2. Distribute the pamphlets on HIV AIDS to public. 3. Interact with public on the road. 4. Listen to the speechesmade at the end of the rally. 15. IDF - Fund Raising (Jan 2007)- in second term .The first Donation Drive took place in PYP section. A cheque was handed over by PYP students on first floor. The amount collected was Rs.______________Approx above Rs. 1 Lakh.

with street children of Vatsalya Foundation. The project was initiated by Podarites. The tasks undertaken by students were 1.Write a script of a comedy drama 2. Practice it in school 3. Present it to 200 strrt kids of Vatsalya Foundation on 14th Feb 2007 on occasion of their Birthday Celebration by Vatsalya Foundation. Vatsalya ‘A skit ‘Pyar main Twist’ was written, directed and performed by 12 IBDP Nov 2008 batch students for Street Children of Vatsalya, on Occasion of their common birth day 0n 14th Feb 2007 ( Feb 08)

Year 2007-08 20. IDF - Fund Raising second term (July 2007) . The second round of Donation Drive

happened in term one within six months. The amount collected was Rs___________________ 21. Crafts for Education project by PYP VII (July 2008) – Grade 7 children did Craft for Education project. Wherein grade 7 children created crafts. Thses crafts were sold to parents of PYP grade 2 and 3 on some occasion. The money was handed over to Vimala Dermatological Center by children in a class visit. 22. Distribution of Rin to Podar Hindi Medium school (8thJuly 2008) - Abkishek Gala along with his friends distributing Rin packets to students of Podar Aided School. Duhita Reddy, sharing little stories with the students on occasion of Rin Distribution. Yash Shah, orienting students of Podar Aided School, during his CASwork.

23. Teach and Serve (5 th Sept 2007) -

On occasion of Teachers day , 40 unprivileged children from Vimala Dermatological Center were invited to Podar International School by IBDP students for getting exposure to Information Technology. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. PYP 7 students taught Vimala Children how to draw a picture on laptop screen using ‘paint’ application in two classes for one hour . 2.IBDP students took care of these children , their refreshments. 3.IBDP as well as PYP children celebrated teachers day along with whole school in a stage function in Ramniranjan Hall at 10.00 to 12.00 noon event. 24. It was conducted along with Tata Memorial Hospital, keeping in mind the goal to help children suffering with ‘Thalasemia Major’. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Design a campaign plan 2. Create effective campaignmessages, and posters to put up all over the school, and in hall. 3. Identify donors before the day of blood donation and submit their names to CASCoordinator. 4. On day of Blood Donation which is an open day for IGCSEas well, appeal to parents to donate blood. 5.Explain them the need of Blood Donation and their CASproject through ppt. given by Tata Hospital 6. Explainparents about advantages of blood donation 7. Educate parents and correct their misunderstandings regarding blood donation.8. Guide them to donation venue. 9. Seeto it that they follow correct procedure of registeration, medical test, Blood donation, then rest for 15 minutes…10.Keep record of all parents along with contact details.


25. Industrial Home for Blind (Oct – 2007) - Industrial Home for Blind is a workshop and

home for Visually Challenged. People here are trained in hand looms, hanger making, Candle making etc. IBDP Nov 2007 batch students on occasion of Diwali, put up stall selling these products made by Industrial Home for Blind.We collected roughly Rs. 12000/- from this sale. 26. Snehankit ( June 2007

to March 2008 ) – Snehankit is another NGO which is a helpline for Visually challenged. It assists people with readers and writers. This activity was initiated by IBDP Nov 2007 Batch students to help 6 out side visually challenged children to write their exams. These people were from institutes such as Nirmala Niketan college of social work, Mithibhai college, One S.S.C.School at Andheri and Podar S.S.Cschool. Tasks undertaken were 1.Coordinate with Visually challenged through Snehankit. 2. Travel to exam venue on time 3.Readquestion paper to candidate 4.Write on answer sheet what a candidate says.

27. Help Age India ( Sept 2007 – Oct2007 ) – In month of Sept two programmes were

conducted through association with Help Age India. They are ‘Adopt a Gran Programme’(Bandra), ‘Celebration of ‘World Elder’s Day’ (Dadar). Help Age India initiated these projects. IBDP student joined both the events as volunteers . Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Help eldrely carry groceries to the vehicle after they were distributed by Help Age India. 2. Worked as volunteers and mostly audience to the celebration of World Elder’s Day.

28. HIV AIDS Awareness Rally ( 1 st Dec 2007 ) –Project initiated by Youth Organisation

Tasks - Picked up broken piecesof Ganesh idols lying on Juhu Beach. - Made hips of garlands, plastic bags, bottles and other litter. - Collaborated with M.C.G.M. workers to clean Juhu Beach. Outcome - The beach became as clean as usual for visitors by evening.

More… What – Undertook Mission Hope and Celebration of T.B. Day in collaboration with IDF to support Vimala Dermatological Center which is a home for leprosy patients. Time frame – All Tuesdays April 2010 during academic year 2009-10 and all Tuesdays of July 2010 during academic year 2010-11. Participant’s profile – 50 students of IBDPMay 2012 Batch.


Tasks –*They visited and understood the structure & functioning of VDC. *They conducted entertaining musical sessions for inmates of VDC. *They undertook sale of biography of Dr. A.R.K. Pillai titled ‘Mission Hope’ *The collected amount gone towards education of students of 20 Gurukul schools run by IDF i.e. Indian Development Foundation. *On occasion of World T.B. day , students posted posters in their own locality with educative messageson T.B. Project ( Tuesday 25th june 10) In year 2010-11 , our students adopted the Ackwart Leprosy Hospital (built by British in 1890) for their garden beautification project. The medicinal and herbal plants in the garden will help to heal the patients The wall that surrounds the garden will have a mural painting which will be pleasing to their eyes.

115. PYP 3 CAS visit to Women’s Blind Home. Morning school and Afternoon

School (21st July 11) Objectives of this CASvisit were 1.To sensitise students to the world of visually challenged. 2. To evaluate on how as global citizens they can support and accomodate visually challenged in their day to day life as fellow citizen.3. To raise awarenesson how Non for profit organisations and individuals work to empower visually chalenged. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. To understand how with blindness, one can lead a normal life, get education and be a successful professional. 2. To observe how effectively a visually challenged can conduct herself. 3. Objectives of this CASvisit were 1. To provide students exposure to world of physically and mentally challenged 2. To give students opportunity to recognise their own strengths . 3. To


make students evaluate their future role as an non for profit individuals or institutes to support such people. 4. Students to observe how a national level institute supports to the causeof physically and mentally hamdicapp. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.Visit and closely Observe how physically as well as mentally handicap work at various units of workshops such as Bakery, Auto cycle unit, Pottery unit, Physiotherapy unit, artificial legs..calipers making unit, Nursary with bonsoi plants, craft unit etc. at NASEOHwhich is a national institute to work for their rehabilitation. 2. Write reflection on the same once come back to school Success Criteria were 1. Student are able to emphathise with physically and mentally handicap NOT symphathise. 2. Studentsrecognise and appreciate excellent skills of these inmates to make various products in workshop Extracts from student’s Reflection 1- I and my class visited NASEOH(home for the physically handicapped people).The handicapped people made chocolates, candles, diyas, pots,paperbags, cloth bags,volets,handkerchief, folders and many more things. Some teachers were guiding them to make things. I also saw them learning about computers. They had a exercise room, where they could excercise. I learnt that “we should be happy with what we have”. I am impresses by handicapped children. Inspite of their handicapp, they could make a different things and that to perfectly. The field trip was good and I had fun. Teresa Orphange,Vile Parla -Afternoon School.(4th Aug 2011) Objectives of this CASvisit were 1. Orient and introduce students to St. Catherine’s orphanage with special emphasis on the orphans who are born at Catherine’s home from unwed mothers, HIV infected kids, handicap kids and from age group below five years. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. They listened to the official from St. Catherine’s home in one of the house for orphans. 2. They interact with the officials to know more about how orphans are brought here, who are orphans, how were they taken care of here, how long do they stay here, what happens to them after they leave orphanage. 3. They meet one to one babies of age group one to five years old for 10 minutes. Success Criteria 1.Students come out with willingness and proposals to help orphans 2. They show confidence to direct / refer any child in need of help to orphanage. 3. Students in their reflections say that they can do more than just giving money or food when they see child on signal, railway platform or any such public place.


Extracts from student’s Reflection 1- The sister there welcomed us and introduced us to the ways how the orphange works. I was thoroughly heartbroken to hear the stories she told us and was shocked to see the world could offer such atrocities. Then, she let us see kids that were about three four years and some were not even a month old! They were really cute, adorable and cute! Avi Sogani, 7th C2- It is really rare to see people doing social work in the present times. I am happy to see the orphanage put their sincere efforts in the well being of these children. I would also like to contribute in such social work. After this visit to the orphanage, I have been made realised, that how blessed I am to have all the things these children have to live without: love, care, affection and parental support. Today, I thank God for all he has given me. Kanisha Contractor, 7th C.3- It was really sad to know about plight of these innocent children, as though the orphanage provided them with a lot of care and support, they did not have their parents’ love and affection. I also felt glad to see that these abondoned children had such a great place to go to. I feel that vthis CAs field trip was really interesting and an eye opener too. Indian Development Foundation Donation Drive(July 2011)

Objectives of this CASvisit were 1. Give students opportunity to work as IDF’s social ambassador in their family and neighbourhood. 2. Students to raise financial support for cause of primary education for children studying in IDF’s 42 Gurukuls . These gurukuls are running at remote and away from social mainstream of India. 3. Students themselves promote the causeof universalisation of primary education. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. Take up the IDF Donation Drive form to family, friends and neighbourhood with the messagegiven by CASCoordinator. 2. Educate them and promote the causeof CAS3. Inform prospective donors on structure and functioning of Gurukul as an effort towords the causeof universalisation of primary education. 4. Collect donations with proper entries in the donation form. Success Criteria 1. From every class we get fund flowing in. 2. A Level students 2011-2012 Batch Five Saturdays Placement at Nanavati Hospital (2nd to 30th July 2011, All Five Saturdays) Objectives of this CASActivity were 1.To explore possibility of long term partnership between Nanavati Hospital and Podar International School, wherein Hospital is benefited with the volunteer service of Podar Students and Podar International School is benefitted with an ongoing opportunity every year for students to get first hand exposure to structure and function of Hospital Setting. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.To support the medical and para medical team of the assigned ward. 2. To be alert to individual requirements of patients who are admitted in ward.3. To connect them to medical team promptly. 4 To strictly follow the teams instructions. Success Criteria 1. From Podar ICT :120. Project Shiksha at AGPV (Began on 21st July 2011. All Thursdays except holidays) Objectives of this CASvisit were 1.Every Thursday from 2.40 to 3.30 conduct project shiksha class with 8th standard students of AGPV. 2. Student activity leaders to develop units to teach with samples of comprehensions, extracts from 8th grade text book and stories for every month along with scheme of assessment. 3.The overall goal of this project is to enhance English speaking skills of these students. Tasks undertaken by students were 1.Select a short story which is one page long. 2. Teach them to 8th standars wtudents of Seth Anandilal Ganesh Podar Vidyalaya students with special emphasis on teaching at least five new words to them. Success Criteria 1. Atleast few of 8th standard students of AGPV demonstate learning of the story by telling it to DP students. 2. They write new words in their notebooks and learn to make small sentencesusing these words. 3. They write assessment test successfuly given by DPstudents. 121 . Malvani Slum School Activity (Drawing, Dance and Drama workshops at IDF Gurukul School, Malwani) : Objectives of this CAS visit were 1. Share students own talents and skills with larger community. 2. Teach something different as an outsider. 3. Get opportunity to see the school life of children who are staying at slum. 4. To provide exposure to IBDPstudents to appearance of Slum. Tasks undertaken by students were 1. In Drama workshop SAL Raihaan Attawala and Ashwin planned three drama related exercises which they conducted for the students of St. Mathew School, which is located at Asia’s second largest slum located at Malwani, Mumbai. It is IDF Gurukul school too. 2. In Drawing workshop SALs Shakshi Jindal , Tarunn Bhende and Akshath Singh taught children to draw a simple sketch of Car from a square and Triangle shape. 3. In Dance Workshop SALs Amparoo and Vadehi conducted a group dance on a bollywood song ‘ Saddi Galli..khulke bhi aaya karo…’ . The all rest students followed the plan of workshop along with students. 4. On the way from Bus to school, students were given opportunity to talk to household ladies, just to peep in to their homes informally and observe the kind of housing they have….

Success Criteria :1. The SAL’s set goals for workshop are achieved at the end of the activity. 2. Students express willingness to come back again ORrepeat the activity.
