Top Knot Bun.

page 8

Instructions: 1: Dispense mousse into palms and apply to the lengths of damp hair. Roughly dry hair with a blow-dryer. 2: Using an elastic, pull hair into a tight, high ponytail. Garcia tells us that the trick to the high pony is to tip your head upside down and secure on top of the crown. 3: Take small sections of the ponytail and backcomb hair using a fine-toothed comb (such as ghd Tail Comb, $12). After vigorously backcombing each section, spray with hairspray. 4: Separate hair into two sections. 5: Knot two sections as you would tie shoelaces. 6: Rest the bulk of the bun at the front of the head and pin loose ends at the back. Secure tightly using bobby pins and lightly spray hair with hairspray.

Waterfall Braid

page 11

Instructions: 1: Brush your hair and then part hair on it’s natural side. 2: Grab a small piece and divide into 3 sections. 3: French braid for 2-3 inches. This will secure the “waterfall” and make sure it doesn’t fall in your face. 4: After you’ve French braided for a few inches, drop the top section of your braid. It’s ok. Let it fall. 5: Pick up a new section of hair from directly behind where you’ve dropped the top piece. This new piece acts as a new section of your French braid 6: Keep moving around the head. Remember, every time you grab a section of hair from the top of your head to add to the braid, let is drop and replace it with a new section. 7+8: When you reach the other side of your head, secure the end of the braid with bobby pins.

Beauty Queen: What's the best part about being Katy Perry's makeup artist? Todd Delano: The best part of being Katy's makeup artist is the extended family that comes along with it. We all have a lot of fun together. BQ: Tell us the truth, is Katy really awesome at doing her own makeup or does she need you? TD: Katy can do her own makeup if need be, and she does a pretty good job on a basic face. When it comes to lashes and sculpting, well, that’s where I step in. BQ: What’s your favorite lip to do on her? What about eye? TD: My favorite lip to do on her is a glossy lip, but she prefers more of a matte finish. So, it’s rare when I can sneak a gloss in. I like to do on her is a glossy lip, but she prefers more of a matte finish. So, it’s rare when I can sneak a gloss in. I like to do smoky eyes—I prefer eye makeup with blurred and blended edges. A smoky eye is sexy on everyone. BQ: Which beauty trends are you loving right now and which have you tried on Katy TD: The dark, bold lip of the ‘90s goth, alternative crowd was a trend we played with. I also love the bleached-out brow, but we haven’t tried that yet.

BQ: Which beauty trends are you loving right now and which have you tried on Katy? TD: The dark, bold lip of the ‘90s goth, alternative crowd was a trend we played with. I also love the bleached-out brow, but we haven’t tried that yet. BQ: In your mind, what has been her best red carpet beauty moment so far? TD: I loved the red carpet moment from the Los Angeles premiere of her movie Part of Me. We were in Hollywood at a historic theater so the look was old Hollywood glamour from head to toe. Appropriate in every right. QB: What three products are must-haves to get Katy’s signature look? TD: A brow pencil, false lashes, and a bright, matte lip. Use the brow pencil to define your natural brow into a strong classically arched shape. False lashes add fun and glamour to any look. If you need to cut them to fit your eye, always cut from the outer corner before applying and let the lash glue cure for 30 seconds before applying. The lips should be defined with a coordinating lip pencil and filled in with the lipstick. I always say it’s just makeup—it will wipe off. So have fun and experiment!
