London Brompton Junction Concept Store Opens September 2013

London Location Joins Successful Concept Stores in Shanghai, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Japan Interbike, September 18-20, 2013 – London, England, the hometown and birthplace of the international Brompton folding bicycle brand, is the latest location to open a Brompton Junction, the brand’s flagship concept store already in a handful of key international locations around the world. The new store opens late September 2013 and joins Brompton Junctions in Shanghai, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Kobe, Japan. Brompton Junction London opens its doors in Covent Garden, one of London’s most highly trafficked retail locations packed with bars, restaurants and both high street and high fashion brand retailers. The store opens on the site where, in 1817, the first drive-train-less “Hobby Horse” bicycle was made, an early ancestor of the modern bicycle.

“We opened our first ever Brompton Junction store in Kobe, Japan almost three years ago,” says Katharine Horsman, Brompton marketing manager. “The concept has proved so popular with the public and Brompton fans around the world that we knew it was time to bring the idea home to Brompton’s birthplace.”

Each Brompton Junction incorporates technical workshops, highly trained staff and intriguing retail design and follows the five elements integral to the Brompton brand: ingenuity, compactness, London/ Britain, personality and freedom. Unique to each Brompton Junction is an original 1982 Brompton bicycle from the brand’s first, ever production run of 400. The frame number of the bicycle allocated to each store guides the store’s identity. For further details, sneak previews of the store and information on opening dates, follow Brompton London Junction on Twitter at @BromptonJnLDN. Brompton History All Bromptons are designed and built in the brand’s factory in West London, England. Brompton is one of only two major frame manufacturers still based in the UK, and has been in full production since 1988. The company has come a long way since its initial production facility opened in a railway arch – the current site now occupies more than 22,000 square feet. Read more about our history. The company remains in private hands and is now led by Will Butler-Adams, though Brompton’s inventor, Andrew Ritchie, continues to act as Technical Director. Private ownership has played a big part in making Brompton successful, allowing the brand to focus solely on bike design and production, never the demands of corporate shareholders. Today, Bromptons are sold in 42 export markets. In the U.K., U.S.A, Canada and Ireland, selling directly to carefully selected bicycle retailers; in other territories, Brompton sells to distributors that operate their own dealer networks.
