Master Thesis at Aalborg University in Architecture, June 2018
The project is located in an underdeveloped region of Costa Rica, heavily exploited for pineapple plantations and affected by strong social fractures.
“The real cost” is an evolving architecture, changing through time together with its users: from educational, it transforms to a cultural and finally to a visitor centre, providing an alternative work source. The complex of buildings is organized as a village to gather the community, host workshops, activities and events.
The project is realized by people and utilizes local sources such as bamboo and earth, combined with traditional construction techniques. A sustainable approach and the introduction of passive strategies become an example of qualitative, low-cost and easily assemblable architecture.
Project in collaboration with Arianna Vacchi Suzzi and Peter Deir.
