NIR KABARETTI I Music & Artistic Director GISÈLE BEN-DOR I Conductor Laureate T H E S YM P H O N Y. O RG

Dear Friends and Music Lovers, It is my pleasure to welcome you to our 2015-16 season, which marks my 10th anniversary as Music and Artistic Director of this wonderful organization.

LET’S PLAY Over the last 10 years I have treasured many exciting musical moments here in Santa Barbara, and I also truly believe that this year’s musical offerings will give everyone an immense enjoyment from beautiful sounds and great music by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and many others, including Santa Barbara’s own Oscar-winning composer Elmer Bernstein. We are thrilled to continue our established collaborations with other arts organizations in town, and to give our audience an extra artistic dimension to the music we perform. I am looking forward to sharing The Granada Theatre stage with outstanding guest artists who, with their talent and passion will turn every concert into an unforgettable event.

“Nir Kabaretti is a conductor of immense musicality and warm personality.” – Maestro Zubin Mehta

Thank you, once more, for being such a wonderful part of music making in this special community - I feel very fortunate and privileged to be part of this musical family. With your support our melody will never end! Musically Yours, Nir Kabaretti

Welcome to our 2015/16 season! It’s a special year for all of us at the Symphony as we celebrate ten magnificent seasons with our beloved Maestro Kabaretti. There are so many highlights. My personal favorites include opening night with Carmina Burana, a wonderful partnership between State Street Ballet, the Santa Barbara Choral Society, the Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts and the Symphony - it’s going to be a spectacle. I’m also a huge lover of Rachmaninoff so I’m excited about our February 2016 concert, which showcases some of his most cherished works. And I can’t wait for Elmer Bernstein’s Guitar Concerto for the season finale with guitarist Pablo Sainz-Villegas, considered to be one of the best in the world. Season subscriptions are a great way to save on individual ticket costs and they provide a number of other benefits such as keeping the same seat each season and exclusive event invitations. Come celebrate with us and renew your season subscription today. It’s going to be a fabulous season and I look forward to sharing it with you. Let’s play! David Pratt Executive Director
