San Francisco meets Santa Barbara at BRAVE CYCLING CO. , brave cycling.com, a new cycling apparel company started by Westmont graduate Bryan Cox and his two brothers, Sean and Alan. Designed for adventure, the clothes (from $20) include Ts, sweatshirts, and jerseys featuring a pastel ice cream truck, a topographical map of Mt. Diablo, or the streets of San Francisco. A portion of the proceeds go toward nonprofit organizations such as Pedal Revolution, a bike shop that provides employment for at-risk youth. STINNER FRAMEWORKS , stinnerframeworks.com, a custom bicycle company based in Goleta, brings freedom, fun, and adventure to bicycles. Embodying simplicity and intelligent, minimalistic design, Stinner crafts handmade bicycles (from $2,395) for the road, gravel, and mountains with titanium and steel options for each, ensuring long lifespan, high durability, and low environmental impact. What began as a casual beach game in the late 1980s, SPIKEBALL has emerged as a popular sport recognized on a national level. There have been two annual national Spikeball championships to date, and as it happens, Santa Barbara is home to some of the top players in the nation: Former Westmont baseball players Jarratt Rouse and Devin Matson placed second at the 2015 Spikeball National Championships in Nashville. The game is a cross between volleyball and foursquare—teams of two pass a softballsized ball between partners before “spiking” it into a three-foot-wide round net. Santa Barbara Spikeball players have set the bar high, boding well for the growth of the sport. C H A N T A L P E T E R S O N
