Situated across the Taje River, Barreiro is one of the city that constitutes Lisbon’s suburb. Barreiro presents a interesting mix of industrial fringes, chaotic urbanization and old fisherman villages. The masterplan of the project integrates the infrastructure that Lisbon is supposed to acquire in the next years: a new bridge crossing the Taje and a new highway. Reconnecting various sites (industrial, residential, agricultural), the plan still protects parts of natural sites from being urbanized. The South Barreiro project aims at urbanizing the city limits through remodeling the landscape of the city from the highway to the river. The reorganized urban fabric of the residential surround the vast park.
