Reaching Out DECEMBER 2013 TRESTLE BOARD www.sanleandrolodge113.org Meets every Wednesday San Leandro Masonic Hall 116 W. Joaquin Avenue San Leandro, CA 94577

MESSAGE FROM THE EAST

Greetings Brethren, How the year had just gone by. It seems only yesterday I was just getting installed along with 2013 San Leandro Lodge Officers. Now the new Officers of 2014 will take helm of the Lodge and carry it on to the New Year. Truly when you put your mind together you can create many wonderful things. Collectively our Lodge has accomplished many things. Our rituals are impressive. We have done what we set out to do. We reached out to the community. Our local school district was graciously thankful of our support. A local elementary school was appreciative when we helped them with their project along with our youth group, the Eden Assembly Rainbow No. 11. A widow sought assistance and we stepped up to the plate. Our Relief Drive was well supported by the generous donations from our members. The community knows we’re here and more importantly, they know that we are here for them. A year can only add a number to our age. But a year can also make one wiser. Indeed it was a pleasure to serve as Master. One benefit that tops it all is I got to know almost everyone on the personal level. What we learned on our first step in Masonry, where we were first made a Mason, it is what’s in our heart that the people have come to know. It is what everyone sees. It matters not what we make of ourselves. It matter not how many emblems we adorn ourselves. In darkness it is what’s in our heart that outshines them all. And that is what I see. On behalf of my dearest wife Melita, we wish to give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Officer’s of 2013 and to the members and our lovely ladies for making this year worthwhile, for carrying on the rich tradition of what San Leandro Lodge is known for. Thank you all. Congratulation also to our newly Raised Brother, Bro Chris Vallejo and our new Entered Apprentice, Bro Bill Eadus. Welcome to the craft. Happy Birthday to the December Celebrants! See you at the Stated Meeting Dinner. Fraternal Regards, Noel and Melita From the Ciron Family we wish everyone a Joyous Season and a Prosperous New Year!

MESSAGE FROM THE WEST

Brethren, To all our newly obligated EA's and FC's FREEMASONRY is a FRATERNITY and let us not get confused with this. and please allow me to explain: Freemasonry is the oldest, and by far, the largest fraternal order in the world. Its lodges stretch around the globe, and like the British empire, it might well be said that the sun never sets upon the Masonic lodge. Fraternity means an association of brothers, and that is exactly what Freemasonry is‌ a society of friends and brothers. The origins of Freemasonry date back to the dawn of civilization. The Egyptians practiced many of the philosophies known to modern freemasonry, and men practiced many of the operative skills as guilds formed in Europe during the 10th century. Written records of modern freemasonry have been kept since 1717 with the formation of a general governing body called a Grand Lodge in England. It is NOT a SECRET society in that its Temples are openly marked and almost everyone in the community knows where they are located. The Grand Lodge publishes a roster of the members of every lodge in the jurisdiction. Many of the lodges have individual bulletins or newsletters which carry the names of the officers and members as well. Thus it is, in the strictest sense of the word, a society with secrets, and these are limited to its obligation, its modes of recognition, such as pass words and grips, etc. and certain parts of its ritual. It is religious in character, but is NOT a religion. It's founded upon the basis principle of the Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God, and everyone who comes to its lodges must express a particular belief about God, for this is the privilege of each individual and is NOT infringed upon by our Fraternity. Freemasonry practices selective charities, founded on the principle of brotherly need which is not applicable in all cases that appear similar. No member has a specific claim upon the society for its charity, for this is not a right acquired by becoming a member of the society, rather it is a PRIVILEGE. Have a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous New Year. Let us all welcome Masonic year 2014. Fraternally Yours, Bro. Allan Nubla Senior Warden

MESSAGE FROM THE SOUTH

With my utmost gratitude I would like to thank all the Brothers, Sisters, Families and Friends who have extended their helping hands in the performance and success of my duties as the Junior Warden. This year is coming to a close and it's been a long and great year. This year has been a challenging trial for me as a Mason to become even more involved while dealing with my daily duties and responsibilities. I am forever grateful for the good counsels of my caring Brothers and Sisters. It served me well and helped me to better prepare myself for my next undertaking as the Senior Warden. I hope that your continuous support, trust and assistance will always be there and I am asking everyone to extend the same to all the incoming Officers of our Lodge for the ensuing Masonic Year. For our December Stated Meeting Dinner, we will be serving roasted chicken with potatoes or rice pilaf, steamed vegetables, bread, salad and of course cake for dessert. I am hoping and expecting to see all those friendly familiar faces, and of course new ones, to attend our meeting. Calling in to reserve at your earliest convenience is always appreciated. Please call or text for reservation: Bro Jesse Dela Cruz - 510-673-1868 Bro Macoy Heramia - 510-395-2428 Bro Norman Mallillin - 510-282-2393 Have A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone, from my family to yours. Fraternally, Bro Jesse Dela Cruz Junior Warden

MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY

Brethren, I would like to express my deepest, sincere thanks for the vote of confidence shown at the November Stated Meeting. I will do my best to justify that action. In an effort to reduce mail expenses Worshipful Tiopo, PM single handedly undertook the "Red Tape Bureaucracy" of the Bulk Mail System and ultimately got a Bulk Mail Permit which reduced our Trestle Board mailing cost from forty-eight cents a copy to less than one cent per copy. To me it's a shame that some brothers are kind of cancelling this savings by not reporting a change of address when they move. Every month I get more than seven or eight TB's returned. These cost fifty cents each. Please add the Lodge to your list of address change notifications when you move! Fraternally, Bro. Gary White, HA Secretary SOFT and SAFE TO THEE Brother Robert O. Bergstrom, raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Alcatraz Lodge No. 244, February 28, 1951; Master 1961; Golden Veteran Award December 2000; entered into rest September 12, 2013; 92 years, 3 months, 16 days. Brother Clyde E. Jantze, raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Eden Lodge No. 113, October 26, 1949;Golden Veteran Award December 32, 1999; entered into rest March 17, 2013; 85 years, 7 months, 27 days. Brother Laurence F. Pullen raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Eden Lodge No. 113, January 18, 1967; entered into rest November 11, 2013; 94 years, 6 months, 6 days. Almighty Father, into Thy Hands we commend the souls of our Beloved Brothers.
