Trivia Bee Friday, October 18 Marina Community Center

Special Events

With concerns about youth detachment form outdoor activities, lack of physical exercise and increased health risks, the California Roundtable on Recreation, Parks and Tourism adopted the California Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights for the purpose of recommending a fundamental list of experiences that every child in California would benefit from experiencing, before entering high school. Numerous studies document that children who do these things are healthier, do better in school, have better social skills and self-image, and lead more fulfilled lives.

Lucky 13

To celebrate the 20th annual Trivia Bee, Project Literacy is hosting a Black and White Bee Gala! Get a group of friends or colleagues together and form a team or just come and be a part of the cheering audience. You will be challenged with a variety of amazing trivia questions in a slow elimination down to the top teams who will battle it out for First Prize. Form a team for $350 which includes three dinner tickets or purchase a $25 ticket which includes dinner. This event will raise much needed funds for Project Literacy. Also purchase raffle tickets and win great prizes! Tickets will be on sale at the Main Library and the Marina Community Center beginning in June. Support literacy and be a part of a program that changes lives and strengthens our community. Groups who make reservations in advance for 10 or more will be provided a free bottle of wine for their table! All proceeds benefit the Project Literacy Program of San Leandro. For information or to sponsor a team, contact Cinda Mariscal, Literacy Coordinator, at 577-3944.

USS Hornet & Pacific Pinball Museums The USS Hornet is a national treasure that is now peacefully moored at the historic Alameda Point on the San Francisco Bay. This famous aircraft carrier participated in two of the largest historical events of the 20th Century – World War II and the Apollo 11 manned space mission, and now serves as a timeless memorial to those who defended America. Also located in Alameda, the Pacific Pinball Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching science, art and history through pinball – and to preserve and promote one of America’s great pastimes. Who doesn’t love to play pinball? We will visit both these historic museums and go on docent-led tours.
