I The difference between try and triumph is a little umph. —Author Unknown
love the July issue. I love everything about it. I love that it comes out at the height of summer, I love that our readers get involved in putting this issue together by voting for all their favorite finds in San Joaquin, and I love that we get to spotlight some of the most amazing people and businesses all in one great edition of San Joaquin magazine. I actually get a little giddy when the ballots start rolling in with the “Best of San Joaquin” votes. There are always some go-to places in the community that seem to win year after year (which means they must be doing something right!), but plenty of new businesses also show their stuff each year and make a name for themselves. One of the perks of being a part of the San Joaquin magazine staff is that we get a heads up about the newest shops, services, charities, hotspots, and more, often long before they have become household names. We get to sample milkshakes, try Valley Brew’s newest beers, and check out the sledding hill at Dell’Osso Farm so that we can report back to you, our readers, all the things that we loved and think you should too. The “Best of San Joaquin” is where we get the chance to cram all these fun finds into one super-guide to San Joaquin. These “Editor’s Picks” are usually hidden gems like the Peanut Butter Cup milkshake at The Creamery (yum), or taking your special lady wine tasting at Viaggio Winery on the banks of the Mokelumne River, so you can share this year’s pick for Best Place to Kiss. Most of all, we love any chance that we have throughout the year to get our readers involved in putting this magazine together, be it receiving your votes for the “Best of San Joaquin” issue, or submitting photos of your lovable pets for our October pets issue. (Enter your pets now at www.sanjoaquinmagazine.com for a chance to be the cover dog for the October issue!) Why do we want you to get involved? Because, really, this is your magazine, your incredible corner of the Central Valley, and your hometown—we just get to write about it! Enjoy reading about the Best of the Best 2011.
