VINCENZO BELLINI’S ROMEO AND JULIET
This bel canto masterpiece illuminates the passion and pain of star-crossed lovers with rich beauty and dramatic musical prowess.
The heartbreaking story of Romeo and Juliet is retold through Bellini’s exquisite, gracefully flowing music. Portraying the ill-fated young lovers from feuding families are two remarkable international stars: Grammy® Award winner Joyce DiDonato, a singer admired for her “glamour, charisma, intelligence, grace and remarkable talent” (The New York Times), and BBC Singer of the World competition winner Nicole Cabell, who “wields her radiant lyric soprano like a silken lasso” (The New York Times). Riccardo Frizza, praised by The New Yorker for his “crisp and idiomatic conducting,” leads the orchestra. With dramatic set designs by Vincent Lemaire and lavish costumes by world-renowned fashion designer Christian Lacroix, this “wholly absorbing production” (Opera Today) promises to be a sumptuous visual treat.
