After researching vintage and international public libraries, a bibliophilic couple presented Stuart Silk Architects with an unusual ask for their Issaquah, Washington, lake house: a doublestory library. Enamored with the brief, plans were drawn for a dramatic slate-toned sanctuary with dark herringbone floors. To the right of the entryway, a powder-coated steel spiral staircase fabricated by Northwest Stair & Rail, Inc. weaves to the upper level of the library, which hosts more shelves of books, a comfy, tucked-away reading nook, and a secret passageway to the master bedroom. stuartsilk.com
