WELCOME Sandestin is a place for everyone

O

ur Sandestin homeowners, those living here year-round, find the fall a great time to invite family to enjoy the Sandestin Lifestyle. And those who live elsewhere find that there are many great reasons to visit. Maybe it’s celebrating a major life event like a wedding, escaping for a well-deserved family vacation or because a place at the corporate retreat is earned. The good news is Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is the perfect solution for all the right reasons. Unlike a hotel, our 2,400-acre resort’s collection of 1,250 vacation rentals includes studios to four-bedroom units, condos, homes, villas and penthouses, giving you an enticing array of options. You also have four resort areas to choose from — including Beachside, Bayside, Lakeside and the Village — stretching from our postcard-perfect beach to tranquil Choctawhatchee Bay. It gets even better when you consider all the complimentary perks and amenities we offer you as our guest (and the privileged owners of our rental units), including the use of bicycles, boogie boards, kayaks, tennis, access to our fitness center, exclusive parking areas and our resort-wide tram service. Then there are all the spectacular activities that have made us so popular, including our four celebrated championship golf courses, The Village of Baytowne Wharf (pedestrian village to shop, dine and play) and our sought-after strand of powdery white sand beaches. Check-in to Sandestin and find your place in the sun. And when you do come to play, you can stay for life. The Sandestin Real Estate sales team, SRE, will find your perfect home or investment property right here in paradise. Only a team that has been in operation since

from general session to breakouts to meal space.” But planners are also after a “wow factor” — such as panoramic views of a glistening Choctawhatchee Bay — that guests can enjoy during a content-heavy meeting. “Every single meeting attendee gets that experience when their group utilizes the Linkside Conference Center,” Lott adds. “We have seen the space already work well for association and corporate groups as well as incentive groups here to reward and celebrate their associates with a dinner overlooking Choctawhatchee Bay.” A RISING TREND The Linkside Conference Center’s improvements not only enhance the average meeting experience, but they also pique the interest of the guest who’s looking to convert a business trip into a luxury beach vacation. And Sandestin — with more meeting space than any single venue in Northwest Florida — is especially skilled at meeting that need. “We embrace the ‘bleisure’ market,” Becnel says. “There is so much to do. Our guests can blend business, leisure and a comfortable stay without ever leaving the gates of Sandestin.” The resort receives group travelers from all across the United States, and its drivein guests primarily hail from the Southeast — including Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. In addition to 65,000 square feet of premier meeting space, Sandestin’s 2,400 acres feature more than seven miles of beaches and pristine bayfront shoreline, four championship golf courses, 15 worldclass tennis courts, 19 swimming pools, a 113-slip marina, a fitness center and spa, and The Village of Baytowne Wharf, a pedestrian village with shopping, dining, nightlife and seasonal events. “There’s really not a limit to what we can offer to meeting and event planners. Once those meetings and events are over, we can transition that guest into a longer stay or repeat business where they can have a leisure vacation and have their families come in,” Sarver says. “We’ve had it here for a long time, but it’s a rising trend.”

THE NEW COLOR PALETTE at Linkside better reflects the local flavor of the Emerald Coast.

A big draw is Sandestin’s diverse collection of lodging — roughly 1,300 rental properties that include condominiums, villas and townhomes. “They are everything from a studio all the way up to a five bedroom, so it makes it really comfortable for that family who wants to come in after that conference and have a beach vacation,” Sarver says. “Something else that makes Sandestin stand out is that you can do everything right here on-site. It’s really walkable. We have complimentary trams and bike rentals. … You can get to everything — even the beach — without having to drive!” But the key to transitioning those meeting guests into traditional Sandestin vacationers goes back to making a gorgeous first impression with spaces like Linkside Conference Center. “Sometimes you go into conference centers, and they’re all the same,” Sarver says. “They all have the same carpet or same color accents, and (Becnel) really just wanted to make sure the artwork and the color palette pulled in everything we love about Northwest Florida.” The Linkside project is especially notable because it was finished on an accelerated schedule of three months to accommodate a large group event in January. It also marks the first entirely visible renovation at the resort in recent years.

“While we’ve had many significant investments in the property, it hasn’t always been the fun kind that everyone gets to see and show off,” Becnel says. “It’s like this: The batter of a cake is so very important to the taste and shouldn’t be downplayed, but the icing, décor and sprinkles are what we get to show off. This was our first opportunity in a long while to visually enhance one of our assets in such a significant manner.”

LINKSIDE’S VIEWS of the bay make it a popular choice for business meetings and weddings alike.

FROZEN OASIS Baytowne on Ice offers unique seasonal experience BY THOMAS J. MONIGAN

O

n a typical day in Sandestin, the only ice you can usually find is at the top of a glass of sweet tea. But as the holidays approach every winter, thousands descend on The Village of Baytowne Wharf to skate, slide and enjoy the rarest site in the Sunshine State: an ice skating paradise named Baytowne on Ice. It doesn’t take an act of God; instead it comes down to the two men in charge of making Baytowne on Ice a reality: Troy Sjostrom and Darrell Price. Sjostrom has been with Baytowne for more than 18 years. More than 10

of those have been spent in his current position — operations manager. Price is in his fourth year as general manager of Baytowne Adventure Zone. “It’s an exciting time of the year to see all the kids come in and skate here in Florida on real ice,” Sjostrom said. “For me, it’s something special that most Floridians don’t get to enjoy. It’s something different.” Baytowne Adventure Zone employees work during this season to assist in running the daily operations of the ice rink. Sjostrom said that Baytowne hosted 11,450 skaters last season. The rink is built on a 40-by-60 deck, and once that is complete, it usually takes

three to five days to start making ice on top of it, depending on the weather. “We essentially build a water bed on top,” Sjostrom said, “with insulated foam first, then plastic, then coils with Kevlar tubing that connect to the cooling system.” That system is made up of 10-ton units known as “chillers” and Price said the goal is to keep the ice at 4 inches thick. The heavy-duty tent that houses the ice is rented from Tents of Northwest Florida. It has windows on the sides, but the sidewalls can also be opened. Inside the tent includes viewing areas for parents to come in and watch their kids skate — or participate themselves. For the past several years, professional skaters have put on shows during Friday and Saturday nights. Last year, they also offered lessons. The Ice Skating Extravaganza will take place Friday, Dec. 14, with the first performance at 6 p.m. They will offer lessons Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. “Usually it’s tandem act, a man and a woman,” Sjostrom said. “It’s pretty intense to watch them on such a small rink.” Both men said that their annual goal revolves around seeing how this venue can improve every year, whether it’s new skates or new platforms or the special events. “Growing up here, seeing people from Georgia, Alabama or Louisiana BAYTOWNE'S ICE RINK typically takes between three to five days to create its sheet of ice in sunny Sandestin.

Baytowne on Ice is offering a limited number of discounted season passes to purchase from Oct. 19–26 for $150. These passes can be purchased at the Baytowne Wharf Neighborhood Association Office during business hours. Passes will increase to $165 on Oct. 27. Guests can also skate for 90 minutes, skate rental included, for $14. Skate rentals can range from child size 8 to adult size 15. Double-bladed skates for youngsters are available, as well as “skate trainers,” which are like walkers.

Baytowne on Ice is made possible through partnerships with area businesses, including Community Broadcasters, Q92, Hwy 98, The Blaze, Wave 102, Ace Hardware, Creative Repairs and the merchants at The Village of Baytowne Wharf. they had never seen ice skating,” she said, “and now they know they’ll have the chance.” Added Price: “Watching a kid go from deer-legged shakiness to that confidence that, later on, you’ll see for days is what I enjoy. “Once you teach them a few different methods, some of the older teenagers, they want to learn how to skate backwards. They go from falling down every time to learning how to do it so they can show off for their friends. That’s the fun part for us.”

GIVING BACK

STEPPING IN HELPING OUT Sandestin Foundation for Kids works behind the scenes — lending a hand to children and their families BY ROB RUSHIN

I

n 2011, the Becnel Family, owners of Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, launched the Sandestin Foundation for Kids as a vehicle to provide financial assistance to children and families facing dire circumstances. The Sandestin Foundation for Kids’ goal is to deliver support quickly, when it is needed most, to children, families and organizations. “The Sandestin Foundation for Kids was founded because we wanted to create an organization where we could give back to our community, and give people vacationing at Sandestin the opportunity to give back as well,” said Sara Becnel, co-trustee for the Foundation.

HELPING KIDS AND FAMILIES

Whether it is providing support for individuals and families or offering assistance to organizations working to improve their communities, the Sandestin Foundation for Kids continues to make a difference. “What makes Sandestin Foundation for Kids so unique is that it’s 100 percent volunteer based, so there’s no overhead; $1 of every $1 donated goes directly to children and families. Through that, we’ve done work 28

The goal of the Sandestin Foundation for Kids is to make a meaningful and positive difference in children’s lives. The Foundation will support causes or organizations which have the most impact, and to make the best, positive difference in the lives of children, including health and economic issues. locally, across the U.S. and abroad. Project examples include assisting with medical emergencies, drilling water wells in Africa and building additions and playgrounds for orphanages in South America. We’re a nimble charity without a ton of red tape. If an urgent need arises, we are able to fulfill it quickly and bridge the financial gap of an urgent need while waiting on hospital programs, grants and insurance approvals.” The impact locally from the Sandestin Foundation for Kids has only grown over the past seven years. Here are just a few of the success stories that donors helped make possible.

MALEIA SPEARS

In early 2018, Maleia Spears’ mom, Kristy, realized that her daughter had stopped using her dominant right hand. Then she noticed the Crestview, Florida, youngster’s smile was markedly lopsided. As time passed and her symptoms worsened, Kristy took Maleia to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. In March, a surgeon performed a craniotomy, but because of the size and depth of the growth, the doctor was able to remove only about 50 percent of the tumor. “Learning that our child had a brain tumor was by far the darkest and scariest moment in our lives,” said her parents, Malcolm and Kristy Spears. Along with the original symptoms caused by her tumor, Maleia began to suffer from hydrocephalus — an excess of fluid in the brain cavity — which caused her to have double vision and other unpleasant side effects. A second surgery in April attempted to resect the rest of the tumor and alleviate the hydrocephaly. While the surgery went well, the location of the tumor kept the physician from removing the remaining growth. Doctors also placed a drainage shunt to ease the fluid buildup. Maleia was accepted to the Dana-Farber Cancer Center at the Boston Children’s Hospital, where she began photon radiation in May. Molecular analysis of her tumor concluded that she did not have glioblastoma — a difficult to treat and usually fatal tumor. Instead, she was diagnosed with stage 3 anaplastic astrocytoma, an aggressive

tumor that responds well to radiation and surgery when caught early. Since surgery, Maleia has started physical, occupational and speech therapy. She enjoys coloring and usually colors a page a day. Maleia still faces a long recovery, but she has a strong will and a loving family to help her see it through. As Maleia’s family supports her, the Foundation supports her family. Between the surgeries, therapies and other related costs, such as travel and lodging, the Spears’ medical bills continue to grow, and the Sandestin Foundation for Kids stepped in to help the Spears relieve some of their financial worries. “We were comforted knowing that the Sandestin Foundation was looking out for our financial needs already,” the Spears said. “Their generous gift alleviated the burden of plane tickets needed to get our precious child to her best chance at Boston Children’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, as well as the ability to fly her home or fly her siblings to Boston when she became homesick over the course of three months. We are so grateful for the thoughtful consideration and timely support shown to our family during our time of need.”

JESSE WHITMIRE

Earlier this year, 21-year-old Jesse Whitmire lost control of his truck and suffered multiple shattered and broken vertebrae and a cut in his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed him from the chest down. After several weeks in a local hospital, Jesse was moved to the Shepard Center in Atlanta, one of the nation’s leading hospitals for treatment, research and rehabilitation from spinal cord and brain injury. By June, he had regained some movement in one arm, but he has a long road ahead to recovery.

Because the cost of Jesse’s treatment is staggering, the Foundation made a donation to Jesse and his family to help ease the financial burden. “(The Becnels) have a wonderful organization. The help we received for my son was amazing after his life-altering accident,” said Tanya Whitmire. “I encourage others to give to (the) foundation so that others that have had a tragedy touch their lives can also get the help they need.”

RACHEL SCHICKER

Rachel Schicker first came to the attention of the Sandestin Foundation for Kids in 2015. Rachel and her twin brother, EJ, barely made it into the world after they were born via emergency cesarean section and suffered severe oxygen deprivation. Doctors at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood scrambled to save the babies and their mom. Everybody survived, but Rachel was left with significant motor skills impairment and underwent selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery to help improve her walking. After the surgery, the Sandestin Foundation for Kids stepped up, helping the Schicker family by covering costs for one year of therapy and purchasing 30

her leg braces — neither of which were covered by insurance. While learning to walk, Rachel’s hip sockets began to cause her problems. Her family learned that horseback riding (hippotherapy) can improve Rachel’s condition, so she started riding horses in 2017 at a therapy center in an attempt to avoid extensive invasive surgery. This expensive hippotherapy is not fully covered by insurance, so the Foundation pitched in to help cover her first year. Subsequent hip scans showed improved alignment from the hippotherapy, and, to keep Rachel’s recovery on track, the Foundation is covering her second year of hippotherapy as well. “Sandestin has been extremely generous and kind to us over the years,” says mother Bridget Schicker. “They’ve helped us give Rachel the equipment and therapy she needs to be the best she can be. We are truly grateful for everything they have done for Rachel and our family.”

LIAM HURLEY

Surgery was an early fact of life for 4-year-old Liam Hurley of Fort Walton Beach, and the Foundation has offered a helping hand to the Hurley family since 2015. Doctors diagnosed Liam with polycystic kidney disease when he was born and later discovered multicystic dysplastic kidney syndrome. To keep Liam alive, his father, William, donated a kidney in 2015. The successful transplant means Liam faces a lifetime of daily immunosuppressant drugs to prevent organ rejection, and the cost of medications — plus already astronomical medical bills for his other treatments — are a constant burden, so the Sandestin Foundation for Kids made a substantial donation of support to ease the financial pressure. Today, Liam is healthy, happy and developmentally on track with his age group. He plans to start kindergarten in the fall. “Through their generous giving, Sandestin Foundation for Kids has given my family the ability to focus on what's truly important — the LIAM HURLEY health and well-being of our son,” said spent most of Liam’s mom, Kimberly Hurley. his early life

in a hospital bed, which led to a significant financial burden for his parents.

Foundation support is not limited to its North Florida backyard. The Foundation also extends support to causes overseas. This past May, the Foundation launched a partnership with Read Across Africa, which converts unused homes into libraries in rural Kenya to help educate communities about self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship. Their library runs daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and its services are offered to the community free of charge. Many community members are waiting for the library doors to open, and by 11 a.m., the library is in full swing, ending with around 100–120 children visiting and reading through the 17,500 books on the shelves. Read Across Africa is structured similarly to the Sandestin Foundation for Kids in that 100 percent of all donations go toward helping children and their community. The organization relies solely on volunteers, with all operating costs covered by private donors. 32

HOLIDAY SEASONING

Sandestin has some ways to spice up your winter, including helping you create your perfect holiday party BY LIESEL SCHMIDT

inter is a season of change, a season of sights and sounds and smells that bring together family and friends to share meals and memories. And while Sandestin (or area) residents and visitors might not see the powdery white of snow covered streets, we still enjoy the crispness in the air all as the holiday season begins, bringing with it that craving for delectable holiday foods and treats. And that’s something the restaurants at The Village of Baytowne Wharf are satisfying with seasonal menu offerings to warm the winter months.

In keeping with their love of farm-totable and Gulf-to-plate cuisine, the chefs at Slick Lips Seafood & Oyster House have the fall and winter harvests in mind with their seasonal fare, tweaking their menu a tad to include dishes that celebrate the wintery abundance of root vegetables and heartier ingredients. For a rich taste of the coast at its best, order the butter poached lobster seasonally paired with a fresh salad of tart blood oranges and crisp watercress drizzled with champagne vinaigrette. The hearty loaded potato soup will be a bowlful of comfort, and follow it up with the grilled swordfish served with roasted cauliflower and parsnip purée and accompanied with roasted root vegetables and romesco sauce. To finish off your meal in the sweetest way possible, order the caramelized white chocolate mousse — a silky indulgence topped with salted caramel and roasted candied pecans so sinful that you’ll think you’ve died and gone to heaven. Slick Lips Seafood & Oyster House, 140 Fisherman’s Cove, Sandestin. For more information, call (850) 347-5060 or visit slicklipsseafood.com. Of course, some of the best wintertime moments involve something quaffable

— and for that, Rum Runners has a few cocktails that will chase away the chill and get your holiday spirit flowing. If you love something sweet and refreshing with just a hint of mint and cocoa, you’ll love the candy cane cocktail, a festive libation made of vodka, peppermint schnapps, chocolate liquor and grenadine. For a taste of the tropics warmed with wintery spices, the tropical spiced rum cocktail mixes up Captain Morgan and triple sec with sweet orange and pineapple juices. For something on the simpler side, the seasonal bar menu will also include the ever-popular Samuel Adams Winter Lager. Rum Runners is located at 130 Fisherman’s Cove, Sandestin. Planning Your Holiday

Winter also means a calendar filled with fun community events celebrating the holidays and countless parties to attend or plan, and Sandestin is a community that fulfills your every wish on both counts. “Sandestin offers a unique opportunity for families to get away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season while

still enjoying their traditions — family holiday meals, trips to see Santa and a traditional tree lighting,” says Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Marketing and Public Relations Manager Aleis Tusa. “Our families appreciate the convenience our resort provides along with the opportunity to spend more quality time together making memories.” Starting with the Sandestin Wine Festival’s Sparkling Wine & Holiday Lights in mid-November, the Village streets will be decked out for the season, lined in twinkling lights and greenery that revelers will love to stroll while they sip a variety of premium champagnes and taste featured menu items from local restaurants. Perfect for the whole family to enjoy even without the alcohol, the event also features live music, carolers and a sneak peek of the Village tree lighting. Naturally, all that holiday cheer brings out the giving spirit, and Village shops have everything you need to check off all the items on your gift list. Shop the weekend after Thanksgiving during the Black Friday Sidewalk Sale from Nov. 23-25, and you’ll see prices that really save you some jingle. For free fun that puts you even more in the holiday mood, gather on the lawn later that Friday evening to watch the holiday classic “The Polar Express” on the big screen out under the stars, then toddle off to bed to be ready for Santa Claus to come into town on Saturday night, Nov. 24. Saint Nick arrives at the Events Plaza just in time to officially light the Village Christmas tree, and the celebration will continue with a preview of the choreographed light show, 12 Nights of Lights, as well as a beautiful fireworks display. On Dec. 8, join Playground Music Center and enjoy the sounds of a Tuba Christmas, featuring more than 30 brass instruments playing some of your favorite holiday classics. Stick around to see the stilt walker making balloon animals and watch the 12 Nights of Lights, or skate the night away at Baytowne on Ice. Whatever you love most about the season, this is one Village where they know how to bring the holiday cheer! Holiday time also means party time, and the Group Sales team at Sandestin is your go-to resource for all things party — whether you’re planning a gathering for

a few friends, a holiday reunion for your entire family or a festive celebration for work colleagues. From small-scale soirees to large parties, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort can accommodate every need. “We’re very unique in that we have a wide range of accommodations for smaller gatherings and events to larger parties with up to 800 people. We recommend that people call us directly at group sales so that we can discuss their vision and determine a venue that will best meet everything they need,” says Heather Cleveland, Director of Event Management at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. “We provide them with options like ballroom spaces, some of which offer water views, as well as two private clubs — The Beach Club and Burnt Pine. All of the venues are booked through Meetings and Special Events, and we provide full-service catering packages, including set-up and take down, food services, linens, tables and even holiday centerpieces. We also offer dance floors and have a preferred vendor list of entertainers, including DJs and bands that can be booked during their parties.” Not to be overlooked are those holiday meals, and, for guests staying on property, Sandestin offers fabulous catering-togo packages that can be delivered or picked up. With options for traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, Chef Richard Arizmendez creates unforgettable meals perfect for merrymaking. These packages are perfect for guests hosting holiday gatherings but have no kitchen access, and these to-go meals just might become a new holiday tradition. “The Sandestin Culinary team wants you to be able to skip the last-minute stress of shopping, cooking and cleaning this holiday season by offering our “Holiday To-Go” menus. Featuring a collection of traditional favorites, our menus are artfully designed to provide a delectable dinner without the need to spend hours of preparation,” says Executive Sous Chef Richard Arizmendez. “We put all the very same love and passion in the food we prepare that you would, allowing you to enjoy time with your family and making memories to last for years to come.” From arrival to departure, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort has the perfect way to spend every moment of your holidays.

PGA Executive Director of Golf Operations and Golf Maintenance

available in 2007, and being familiar with the area, it was an easy decision to make. I was never attracted to costal living, but having been here over a decade now, I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

1. How long have you worked for Sandestin, and what brought you here? I am in my 11th year with Sandestin. Originally from upstate New York, I moved to Atlanta in 1995. During that time, I married and we vacationed to Destin annually. This position became 50

course, enjoy golfing in my free time. Not necessarily tournament style competitive golf, but rather a couple foursomes of my buddies, listening to music with a friendly wager on the side. Beyond golf, I have enjoyed fishing, both bay and Gulf. I am also a big sports fan with teams I follow year-round.

3. During your time with Sandestin, is there a

particular moment that stands out for you? We all remember the oil spill, but for me it’s the month before I feel was the most impactful. That is when Tom Becnel purchased Sandestin and put us on the path we are now. There has been a lot of heavy lifting on Mr. Becnel’s behalf to get to this point, and as a result, I believe Sandestin’s future is very bright.

5. If there was one thing that you wish everyone knew about Sandestin, what would it be? Family. Everything we do and everything we are centers around family. From the families that live and visit here, to our family at home and at work. It is who we are — one big family taking care of each other and enjoying life.

4. Can you share a memorable experience where you or one of your team members went above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction? Well I like to think we go above and beyond every day, but a few memorable moments do come to mind:

» Jumping in a lake to retrieve a golf club

» Changing a guest’s flat tire in the parking lot

» Giving a member a ride home after they lost their car keys

» Dumpster diving for said lost keys

» Turning in a lost wallet with $2,000 in it I could go on; our staff is amazing.

6. What do you think is the most amazing stat for Sandestin golf? Our 100,000-plus annual guest and member rounds will use more than 500,000 golf tees, hit more than 3 million practice balls and more than 10 million golf shots.

Known to local residents as the “historic district” of Sandestin, this area is home to the Sandestin Fitness Center, Links Golf Shop and Sunset Bay Café. This area is infused with the years of memories that have been made here as it was the first area of development on the resort. here is so much activity on the resort beginning this fall! Sandestin’s next phase is underway with the start of development of both a fabulous new hotel with additional meeting space, a full service restaurant and top of the line amenities, as well as the newest residential neighborhood to come to Sandestin in over 10 years, Osprey Pointe! While we won’t see completion of either of these huge undertakings for a year or more, the opportunity to bring new families and groups to enjoy all that Sandestin has to offer is exciting. Rejuvenation and continuous improvement within our community will only serve to improve our residential real estate market. Just you wait and see… Sandestin is only getting better!

WEST TO DESTIN

SANDESTIN®

EAST TO HWY 30A

The city of Destin, the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” has a rich historical heritage. Captain Destin pioneered the fishing industry in the 1800s. Today, developed in consideration of supporting tourism, Destin’s beachfront accommodations include Emerald Towers, Holiday Isle, Jade East, Pelican Beach and Silver Shells, among many others. Emerald Bay, Kelly Plantation, Regatta Bay and Indian Bayou are among communities designed to enhance the residential lifestyle of its homeowners by surrounding beautiful homes with award-winning golf courses, lakes views and bayfront luxury.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, where so many come to play and stay for life, is a major destination for all seasons and all ages. With over 2,000 acres, Sandestin is comprised of over 70 unique neighborhoods of condominiums, villas, townhomes and estates being enjoyed as permanent residences and vacation homes. The resort features miles of pristine beach and bayfront, four championship golf courses, 15 world-class tennis courts, 4 resort swimming pools (and 15 private neighborhood pools), a 113-slip marina, fitness center and spa, and The Village of Baytowne Wharf, a charming pedestrian village with events, shopping, dining, family entertainment and nightlife.

These unique beach communities are not “official” cities, but they are very distinct and each touts a personality and atmosphere of its own: Seascape, Sandestin®, Miramar Beach, Dune Allen, Gulf Place, Santa Rosa Beach, Blue Mountain, Grayton Beach, WaterColor, Seaside,Seagrove, WaterSound, Seacrest, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach and Inlet Beach. South Walton’s claim to fame is individuality. This expansive stretch of white sand and emerald water is lined with cottages, condos and homes of all styles.
