Sandbach United Football Club was established in 2004 when Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers joined forces in their quest to improve the football facilities in Sandbach. Hence the R & A on the club badge. In January 2004, the membership of Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers voted in favour of amalgamation, with the aim of playing as a single club from the start of the 2004/5 season. Sandbach Albion was formerly known as Hays Junior Football Club and was founded in 1994, playing on the pitches of what was then Albion Chemicals. As health and safety issues became more prevalent in the 90’s, they left that site and for 5 years the senior home ground was at Sandbach Cricket Club. The younger sides played their games at junior schools throughout Sandbach. Sandbach Ramblers Youth Football Club was formed in 1995 to provide access to schoolboy football for the youth of Sandbach. Of course there had been a Ramblers team in the town before, Sandbach Ramblers were initially formed in 1920 and played in the Cheshire County League before folding in 1975 reforming in 1979 and disbanding in the late 1980s. In 2006 Sandbach United formed the adult team, which initially competed in the Crewe and District League before moving to the Staffordshire Senior League First Division and then being promoted to the Premier Division for the 2008/9 season. In 2011, the club was awarded grants by the Football Foundation and the local council of over £2 million to build a 3G pitch and 9 grass pitches, together with changing rooms and an education suite. The Sandbach Community Football Centre was opened early in the 2011/12 season. United switched to the Cheshire League in 2011 and won promotion to the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season before moving to The Hallmark Security League for the 2016/17 season. The club has over 600 players and 40+ teams that operate from its Hind Heath Road base, which is just 3 miles from junction 17 of the M6. United have teams playing in the Mid-Cheshire Youth League, and the Cheshire Girls League among others, and the age range covers adults and veterans teams right down to Soccer School for Reception and Year 1 children.

The First Team would like to thank last week’s ball boys from the Under 13s United Team (pictured above) who did a sterling job. This weekend’s ball boys (pictured below) are representatives from the Under 10s United Team. If you would like your team to be represented as ball boys or girls please contact the programme manager, Gary Walker.

Sandbach United 4 – Stockport Town 2 Sandbach came back twice to secure victory in fiery cup match. A frantic opening saw Sandbach United and Stockport Town pulling no punches as they both looked to grab the first goal. First blood was drawn when the referee called that Sandbach’s keeper, Ryan Moss, did in fact bring down a Stockport player inside the box. Stockport’s Pollard stepped up and smashed the penalty into the top corner making it 1-0 to the visitors. Just after the break, George Riley clipped in a delightful cross into the box and Matt Pearson levelled the score count with an accurate header from close range. No sooner had Sandbach finished celebrating than Stockport took the lead again. Pollard got his second of the day, slotting a goal in after finding himself one-on-one with the keeper. However, Sandbach showed great heart, putting in their display of the season so far. Danny Bartle showed expert composure as he gracefully took down a chipped pass, he then blasted the ball tight in the corner of the Stockport goal to make it level again. Sandbach’s third was a piece of footballing masterclass. Josh Lane lunged to make his headed ball get into the path of Oumar Mballo, who then headed it down the left side into the path of Matthew Pearson. The right-back then drilled a pass across goal and to the on-coming stride of Danny Bartle, who crisply finished. The fourth for Sandbach came when George Riley strode past a number of Stockport players and then cleverly scooped the ball into the centre of the box. Carlois Correia took advantage of the defensive mix up and smashed it home to make it 4-2. In the next round of the Macron Cup, Sandbach will welcome Atherton Collieries (who are currently 2nd in the Premier League) on Saturday 29th October 2016. MoM: Danny Bartle – Showing all the qualities of a consistent, out and out goal-scorer. Sandbach United would like to thank Planet Environmental, Henshall Insurance, Johnson The Cleaners, The Ganges and Grenville Engineering for their support. Next Match: Sandbach return to league action on Saturday 8th October as they entertain Silsden in a 3pm kick off. Expect a close match as Silsden sit 3 points behind Sandbach in the league but have a game in hand.

Silsden AFC was formed in September 1904 and has seen many teams come and go playing Saturdays and Sundays. The present Saturday senior team has been playing for only eight years, starting life in the Craven & District football league Division Two, after the said team had progressed through the junior section within the club. They spent three years in the Craven league moving up to the Premier Division and in the last year set a new record of going through the season unbeaten in all competitions. From there they joined the West Riding County Amateur League in Division Two and quickly gained promotion up into the Premier Division where they enjoyed three seasons. In season 2002/3 Silsden set another record in going through the season unbeaten in all competitions. To add to this they also won the West Riding County Challenge Cup for the following three years. In season 2004/5 Silsden gained promotion to Division 1 in The North West Counties Football League in their inaugural season. In May 2009 the building of a new clubhouse and changing facilities was completed, and August 2010 saw the completion of the ground improvements which meant a return of Silsden AFC to its rightful place back in Silsden at The Keighley Road Stadium. Former Silsden player and local lad, James Gill, was appointed First Team manager in February 2016 and is ably assisted by Danny Forrest. Despite avoiding relegation James’ primary target is to get Silsden back into the NWCFL Premier Division come May 2017.
