Christine Petrun, owner of Eyeland Lash, said she gives her beauticians a continuing education. “The beauty industry is always changing, and we want to stay on top of that, whether it’s the laws or the standards and trends,” Petrun said. “There’s always different techniques that come about.” Eyeland Lash proactively seeks feedback by asking clients about their experience. The business has also begun offering HydraFacial cleansing treatments as well as a beauty bar.

If you’re in need of a professional pampering, look no farther than Karen Dispenza. Having moved from New York to San Clemente in 1996, Karen’s salon fuses professional, East Coast salon services with a laid-back, West Coast vibe. Offering a number of services including manicures an p ic r nail n anc nt fill and mends, Dispenza and her salon have become favorites among San Clementeans, taking home a second consecutive Golden Ole. “I attribute all of our success to our wonderful clients,” Dispenza said.

Volunteers come in droves, and competitors have traveled from as far as Australia. Although rain hampered this year’s event, that didn’t stop attendees from enjoying the remainder of the festivities when the lightning had settled.
