MARCUS MARCUS MARCUS CERDA CERDA CERDA

Q: If your artwork could talk, what would it say aboutyouasanartistandasaperson?

A: My artwork would speak about me as a weaving loom and a visual storyteller. My artwork embodies an interconnecting process that includes collage with cubism I can bring together patterns and colors and then extend those patterns and colors with oil or acrylic paint. Most of the time I have a narrative by working with a single word For example, my previous show was titled "Abundance", so I elaborate on that word and its subtext. When you look at my work, it really has a lot of layering, texturing, and imagery in it. For me as a person, I may seem like an extrovert as I used to own a gallery and be amongst many people This gives many the impression that I am very outgoing, but I really am very introverted and cherish my alone time. I can deep dive into myself when I'm in front of my canvas and start layering up the surface with paper collage and paint I also challenge myself by experimenting with different visual ways of manipulating color and patterns. I am pretty much an introvert, but of course, my art wouldn't say that about me since it's very explosive in color, shapes, and patterns. I would say that I'm also a contradictory artist

Q: How would you describe the art scene in San Antonio and what roledoyouthinklocalartistsandgalleriesplayinshapingit?

A: The art scene is very vibrant and diverse I owned my own gallery for eight years and would go online and look at other galleries from different cities. In San Antonio, I've come to learn and appreciate that the local art scene emphasizes not only the cultural and historical elements of the city but also the bold and vibrant colors. They're very specific, too. Whereas Miami has pink and Aqua, San Antonio has strong primary and secondary colors Our local artists aren't afraid to introduce those colors. Even some artists that go more towards a neutral palette still have reflections or even accents of these bright colors coming through There are more galleries now that I appreciate. I am a San Antonio native who moved back after living in York City for 15 years. When I returned, I noticed the art scene had exploded while I was away I get inspired and challenged by the many murals and artists themselves. I really am excited about living in San Antonio now. Friends of mine have always asked me whether I will move back to New York City. I tell them this is the best place to be as an artist in San Antonio because of its history of wonderful art and culture and great camaraderie with local artists willing to encourage and share their techniques.

Q: Many artists find inspiration in unexpected places. Can you share a story about a seeminglymundaneoreverydayexperiencethatsparkedaremarkableartisticidea?

A: It wasn't so much a mundane day event; it was more like a daydream memory I remember when I was very young, probably in my mid 20s, I had this vivid dream that I lived in a world made of glass where I could see through different layers. I could see the right angles and angle cuts of glass, even the reflection It was interesting, and I remember walking through this forest of glass and coming upon this lake. The water was made of glass as well, but it also reflected the moonlight, and when I looked up into the sky, it wasn't so much the Van Gogh starry night, but for me, it was more of looking at a jeweled facetted night sky - the stars seemingly reflecting and refracting. I remember waking up and knowing it was a very intense image. That's when I decided to incorporate that style into my artwork
